Age Old Magic

There's a strange sense of community in a place like Namanu. The idea that you can share experiences with people that were at camp decades ago makes it so much more magical. Strangely enough it reminds me of Star Trek. People have enjoyed it for so long, that enjoying it now is all the more pleasing.

day is ending sleep’s descending i’ll be sending to you my stars very soon sunset sings to the moon fire’s fadin’ bed’s a-waitin’ eyelids laden heavily with sleep, it’s no surprise the way i see you rubbing your eyes welcome to the forest of dreams layin’ in our beds we’re still playin’ in our heads welcome to the river of things that we’ve seen but never noticed, don’t you know this doesn’t mean it’s passed us by  making my way to the top of the hill keepin’ in mind that when it’s time i will roll back down looking up to see the ground but be that as it may i say it’s okay to say goodbye to yesterday tomorrow, tomorrow’ll be my today

As I become friends with more and more camp people, the possibility of me attending Namanu weddings goes up. And I’m so excited.

Also never not playing in my head

I’m looking up at a grey sky through a bow of silver fir I’m distracted only by my breath of hot air clouds in the cold I can’t count the stars already and it’s early so I’ll wait and keep staring up and breathing out and hope the moon’s not late

I’ve got a special feeling this night I’m going to remember of where we’re going next to all the places we’ve gone to get here yeah this special feeling going to hold onto it tight from where we’ve gone to where we’ll go I’ll remember this night

I can listen close and look around yhere’s water, wind, and birds there are only shades of green and brown in this whole different world I can spot my reflection in the raindrops on my sleeve and the sound of twigs crunching makes me not want to leave

I can smile and really mean it laugh, shout, and sing out loud be a whole new person see only friends in the crowd it’s these things I’m seeing trying, tasting, it’s all new the times out here are something else nothing like days back home

Camp Doesn't End

You can find camp anywhere As vague as a patch of grass Pine needles in the air Sun through finger stained glass Bull Run road holds an invisible line Hiding where dreams imbue Behind a rusty metal sign The property line of Namanu But don't let dreams hold the same border Extend with the deep, dark prairie That holds the starlit embroidery Such nuances never stopped a fairy Close your eyes, curl your toes Imagine your shoes, from dew, are damp And regardless of what your body knows Your mind is now at camp You can take the camper out of camp But not the camp out of the camper Or so the saying goes But I suggest a revamp To avoid an unintended damper Something a camper already knows No matter where you are Invisible to those you meet As long as you're below a single star Camp is beneath your feet ~Hobbes
