edit: chapters delayed because life is a bitch 🥲✌️
Hi! I'm glad to hear that you're doing okay. I really love your writing but I completely get taking a break to deal with personal stuff. I hope everything sorts itself out :)
This is late but adding onto the Olympic talk, you can have a dual citizenship, Y/N could be Canadian but in America for “work” aka hockey, thats how Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, etc. was able to play for Canada despite being on an American team
True! I’m sure there’s many ways to get around the issue one way or another!
Hey, so love your work, basically binge read the whole story to chapter 21 , in a whole day; hope you come back and finish it soon :)
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it!
I’m not sure when the final chapter will be posted, I’m currently dealing with a lot in my personal life, and don’t want that to reflect on my writing in any way! I’m hoping to return soon, and give our three their perfect ending.
WAIT ADDING ON TO RHE LAST ASK ABOUT CITZENSHIP yes you have to be a legal citizen but you ALSO have to play 2 years of hockey in that countrys league before qualifying to play for that country. Ilya would still qualify but wanted to add that too
y/n most definitely has to be traded then, c’mon ottawa, make a deal or ilya and y/n we need all three in the olympics 🥲
1. You have to be approved for permanent residency status (and i think i THINK ilya would qualify for express entry)
2. You have to spend a total of 1095 days in canada (3 years) total
3. Then you can apply for citizenship
It works a little differently for married people but he moves to Canada pre marriage
Since ilya moves to canada in 2017 he would absolutely qualify for the 2026 team Canada Olympics. I DO think he would still be considered one of the best considering yknow crosbys still kicking
perfect! we just need y/n to move by 2022-ish to move too and have time to apply for the citizenship for the olympics (which considering his contact is six years, he’ll probably have to get traded, or move as soon as the contact ends, but ottawa can make a good offer i’m sure! worst case, he just marries one of them for the citizenship lmao
lowkey i think i messed up the timeline a little in the writing oops lol sorry about that
Ilya gets canadian citizenship!! Him and shane would both be team canada! Maybe they couldve saved it because that empty net will haunt both me and MacKinnon for the rest of our lives.
we need to fast track or trade y/n’s contract to canada for real (although i can see some tasty angst of shane and ilya being in ottawa and y/n being stuck in boston until his contract ends or boston decides to trade him)
i can’t remember if i’ve mentioned this or not but i will be writing a sort of short epilogue series in the future of these three to sort of compare how my writing hopefully improves! it’ll probably be set in the early to mid 2020s, so the olympics could be apart of it.
HOWEVER it would have to be the 2026 olympics, as i believe since the 2014 games, professional nhl players were not allowed to play for their country (although i haven’t done much research, but i recognise only one name from the 2022 usa roster as brock faber but i don’t believe he was nhl then). this obviously has been recently changed this year.
i lowkey hate empty netting because every time i see it, it backfires XD
Ohhh ive always seen goalie reader as canadian! Both because i am canadian and also i hate the usa team with a burning passion considering everything rn. But ilya and shane both move to Ottawa so ive assumed theyd play for team canada as well!
still waiting to read the books to continue their story (sob, this isn’t a want, it’s a need) so that’s probably right! i’m not sure how long you have to be in canada to be eligible gain citizenship, but if it’s only four years like some countries, they could play for the 2026 olympics if they’re all still considered the best then! (i’m pretty sure you need to be a citizen to play for a country, correct me if i’m wrong or if there’s workarounds!)
don’t get me started on some of the players on the usa team, i have ugly words 🙂
Now that the Winter Olympics has ended with Connor Hellebuyck having a near perfect performance in the gold medal game, I was curious would the goalie!reader play for USA in the Olympics if given the chance?
i think he would! obviously, it’s left open to interpretation on what his nationality is, (i see him as either american, or american-your nationality, if that applies), so he would play for either the usa or his other home country. i believe he would rather go with the us, though, because i see ilya playing for them after he gains citizenship (i doubt he’d play for russia anymore). obviously that means going against shane, but what’s a little rivalry gonna do ;)
i admit i haven’t been following the olympics a lot as my country of residence isn’t in the hockey games (c’mon australia XD), and i’ve been very busy, but i’ve been reading up on it every few games. i’ll probably binge watch the games when i have time. i supported mostly the usa because it has one of my favourite player on the roster, but also some of my least favourite players, so… yay but also not yay? either way, congrats to the usa and canada!
i just want to say THANK YOU for writing male reader specifically. ive been looking for fanfics, and all of them are xf!reader like... did we watch the same show :sob:
i was so disappointed to look for heated rivalry x reader and be met with 90% f!reader, especially when it came to shane. i knew i had to write my own to try and balance it out some more for those who are male identifying. even if i’m making just one reader happy, that’s a win!
The arena roars as Ilya slams the puck into the back of the Scouts’ net, so hard that his stick snaps in two. The entire team rushes towards him, screaming and cheering loudly in celebration – a 4-3 overtime win to seal the deal. The Boston Raiders had won the Stanley Cup. Hats, flowers and jerseys are thrown onto the ice by eager fans, black helmets, gloves and worn sticks littering the rink. Y/N smiles happily, discarding his gloves and skating over, soon being swarmed by the team. Every single player had worked exceptionally hard over the last two months, bouncing back from every loss like a ricochetting bullet. Ilya grabs the goaltender by the shoulders, shouting something in Russian, the fire of winning in his eyes. He laughs as he’s spun around happily.
Y/N felt like an actual champion. Last year, he’d been on the winning team, but it had been bittersweet. He hadn’t felt like he’d truly won it, but now, as he takes his turn to skate a lap around the rink, holding the cup over his head, the cheers and applause of the people felt real. He was a champion.
There’s a strange feeling of guilt in his chest when his E/C eyes fall upon the defeated Scouts. His former team looked devastated, forcing smiles as they congratulate the Raiders. Each handshake feels wrong, like he’d betrayed the family that raised him. Smithson gives him a respectful nod, but the sadness in his eyes is unmissable. Y/N reminds himself that this was the game – you win or you lose.
Y/N isn't particularly happy to be showered in sticky champagne in the locker rooms, but Ilya subtly directed Marleau’s alcoholic weapon towards the others, shielding the goalie from the worst of it. The two exchange glances, knowing that it was just a few weeks until they can properly reunite with Shane. They were going to his cottage, away from the prying eyes of the public. It took a fair amount of convincing on Ilya’s end, but he’d finally agreed.
Everything’s a blur as the days rush past. There’s countless events to attend, signings, congratulatory speeches, and interviews that Y/N does his best to avoid. They push through every day, knowing by nightfall, they could go home and spend time together. It was no secret that Ilya and Y/N were living together now, but they cited every excuse under the sun. They were just teammates, their schedules were so similar, and Ilya’s old apartment was being renovated. No one seemed to suspect anything, or at least, not what was truly happening.
Each night, they would call Shane, eating dinner together and feeling like a real throuple. Things weren't awkward, there was no jealousy, occasionally there was miscommunication, but it was always quickly solved. They enjoyed these moments the most, being able to just talk.
An awards ceremony brought the three together one night, held in Boston. They dress in sharp tuxedos, Y/N’s hair freshly cut and styled messily, which kept his boyfriends’ eyes on him the entire night. It was hard keeping their hands off of each other, knees bumping under the table, small exchanges of smiles across the room.
Ilya was awarded MVP of the season, an incredible achievement. Y/N was so proud, knowing exactly what he’d been through to get here. He hadn't missed a single session of therapy, and had only taken drinks in small quantities, such as at this event where he nursed a single glass of champagne.
Y/N was congratulated for having the most shutouts of the season, and the highest save percentage, whilst Shane was awarded with the most faceoff wins, as well as the most points earned by a Metro in their history of Montreal centre players. The three are labelled as an unformidable trio, and speculation of what a team could achieve if they all joined began to circulate. But one thing was for certain – until a contract ended, neither the Metros or Raiders would be letting their respective players go. Hopes of a Hollander-Morgan-Rozanov core were quickly put to rest, but the idea had Shane’s mind whirling, the cogs turning like a machine.
Towards the end of the night, Hayden Pike approaches Y/N, who’s quietly standing on the balcony of the event hall, staring at a fountain below. He’d tried to escape the crowds of people, but had still been found.
“Hey, big guy,” the man says, handing him a glass of beer. “Did pretty well for yourself tonight.” He leans against the balcony, bowtie slightly skewed.
“I suppose,” Y/N responds, glancing towards the brunet.
“Don’t sell yourself short. You did great, man,” he replies, nudging him with his arm. “Two-time Stanley Cup winner at what, twenty-six?”
“Twenty-four,” the goaltender murmurs, making the man grin wider.
“There you go. You’re a hotshot. On the ice and off it,” he muses.
Y/N can’t help but eye the man curiously. He was leaning close, a lot closer than even any of his teammates would stand. His drink in his hand was untouched.
“We never got that drink, did we?” Hayden comments. “Too busy with our games… got pretty tiring… you sneaking off to Shane’s apartment right after the game…”
Y/N turns to him, E/C eyes wide. “What?”
Hayden grins. “Relax, I won't tell anyone. But you gotta be more sneaky. I saw you talking outside the lockers… he’s pretty into you, eh?” His eyes are full of mischief, and curiosity.
Y/N is about to lose his mind when Ilya walks out, watching Hayden with disdain. “Pike,” he drawls, standing beside the goalie. “You are bothering everyone. Go sit and be good like the other Metros.”
Hayden takes one look between the two men before grinning. “No fucking way. Rozanov too?! You dirty dog!”
“Oh, God,” Y/N groans, taking a long drink from his glass.
Ilya catches on pretty quick, his face like thunder. He looks ready to beat the shit out of Hayden, who’s wheezing, looking incredibly happy with the turn of events.
“Ilya,” Y/N croaks, chest tight.
With that, the Russian grabs Hayden and drags him away, protesting. Shane quickly walks over, concerned. “Is he… fuck.”
The next ten minutes are tense. Y/N finishes his beer, pacing around nervously, whilst Shane stares at the ground, realising this could end their careers if they’re exposed. They can do nothing to comfort each other, minds troubled with the uncertain future.
Finally, Ilya and Hayden reappear, and thankfully, their expressions seem neutral. Ilya gestures to the man, scoffing, “He has thing for Y/N.”
There's a long silence, confusion and hesitance. “What?” Shane asks.
“Thinks he’s hot,” Ilya sighs.
“Uh… thanks?” Y/N responds, not sure what to think. He definitely did not have a thing for Hayden. Sure, he was fairly good looking, but he hardly knew the guy.
“Just curious,” Hayden comments. “I’m not looking for anything. Jackie and my girls are my priority.”
“Right…” Shane mutters, very surprised to find out his best friend had a thing for his boyfriend, although he knew that Y/N would not go for a man like Hayden. He was far too… loud.
The awkwardness intensifies, no one knows what to say. Ilya still looks slightly annoyed, but he’s not worried about being exposed anymore. Hayden had his own things to lose.
“So… uh… are you just exploring?” Shane eventually asks, keeping his voice low as a server comes onto the balcony to refill their drinks. Once the man leaves, he adds, “Like, have you ever been with a guy?”
“Not yet,” Hayden shrugs, leaning back on the stone railing. “Hard to find people without just exposing yourself.”
The three nod in agreement, Y/N putting down his now-full glass, the bitter beer leaving a foul taste in his mouth. He didn't like drinking, mostly because it just didn't taste nice.
“Are we the only queer people you know?” The H/C-haired man asks, choosing his words carefully.
Hayden nods.
“Go to gay bar,” Ilya grumbles.
“And get recognised? No fucking way,” the man retorts. “Besides, I'm not looking for a hook-up or anything. Not my kind of thing. I’m just seeing what I'm into. What kind of guys I’m into.” His eyes flicker to Y/N.
“Our guy,” Shane replies, almost coldly.
Hayden shrugs but doesn't deny it.
Y/N rubs his forehead. “This is a lot.” His voice his quiet, overwhelmed.
Shane nods. “Yeah. We should go.”
The brunet hesitates. “I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I'm not asking anything of you. I just… get confused.”
“So be confused elsewhere.” Ilya heads towards the door.
“I can help you,” the goalie eventually mutters.
“The fuck you can not,” the Russian retorts, looking at him like he’s gone mad. Even Shane looks surprised, and a little upset. He did not want to share Y/N with another man!
“Not like… do anything with you. But… find out ways you can find other people like you, safely.” he looks away. “My best friend, Dotty, says there's lots of underground places all over North America. People who don't want to be exposed at all.”
“You’d do that?” Hayden asks.
Y/N nods. “I can find you a list. And send you some articles on how to do… things safely, if you decide to go that route.” He feels his cheeks heating up with embarrassment.
“Thanks, dude. You’re… a good guy.” Hayden smiles to himself, and finally the trio leaves.
“You need to learn how to tell someone to fuck off,” Ilya grumbles, fighting the urge to wrap his arm around the goalie’s waist.
“Fuck off, Rozy,” Y/N retorts snarkily, making Shane snicker.
The two Raiders take a cab to their apartment, whilst Shane waits a while, saying goodbye to his teammates, most of which were planning on staying out drinking. Then, he makes his way to the apartment, making sure to seem as unsuspicious as possible.
He finds the two on the couch, Ilya laying on top of the goaltender, lazily kissing whilst watching the late-night news. He watches them for a while, smile widening as he hears the blond teaching Y/N how to curse in Russian.
He walks over, kissing both their foreheads, before ordering some food. Everything felt so perfect in this moment. He watches as Ilya bites Y/N’s ear, making him yelp and shove him off, gasping, “You’re such a пизда!” In his heavily Americanised attempt at Russian.
Ilya snorts, teasing him, only to cry out in shock when Y/N lifts him over his shoulder like a small child. “Be quiet,” the H/C-haired man smirks. “You are too noisy.”
Ilya struggles, grouching and sneering half-hearted insults. Shane just grins, refusing to help. Eventually, he’s thrown back on the couch, lightheaded.
In a week, they’d all be up in Montreal, at the cottage. They could tell that the Russian was nervous, maybe scared they’d get caught, or that things were real. This was real. They were in love, and they were going to spend the entire offseason with each other.
Not going back to Russia was a hard habit to get by. He hated how he missed his father, and his brother, even though he knew he shouldn't. He still occasionally checked flights, forgetting that he vowed never to go back, that he was happier in America with Shane and Y/N. It was difficult, something he thought could be so easy yet here he was, thinking about Russia whilst eating pizza with his boyfriends. They'd all be attacked if they lived in Russia, why did he miss it so much?
“Are you okay?” Y/N asks, finishing his slice and wiping his hands on a tissue.
Before, Ilya would've nodded and flashed a smile, but one thing his therapist taught him was that keeping things bottled up never helped.
“My first summer out of Russia,” he sighs, sipping from his glass of orange juice. “I… miss it.”
“I’m not surprised,” Shane replies. “You grew up there. Even if it wasn't the best, it was still your home.”
Y/N nods in agreement. “It's okay to feel homesick. It's normal.” He takes the blond’s hand, squeezing it softly. “And… it's okay to miss your family, even if they don't deserve it.”
Ilya slowly nods, feeling his eyes watering. He hated how easily he cried nowadays. He used to be a stone wall, but now, his lovers could draw his emotions out with such little difficulty.
Y/N pulls him in for a tight hug. Shane moves to the other side of him, sandwiching him in. “You got us, always. Я тебя люблю,” the Canadian slowly says, his pronunciation not perfect, but it gets the message across perfectly.
Giving him a gentle kiss, Y/N whispers, “No matter what you decide to do, we’ll support you.”
The Russian clings to them tighter, afraid of letting go. Excitement builds up in his chest as his mind wanders to the cottage.

have you thought abt like a popstar/actor reader? like a michael jackson/beyonce type star?? the fame and hollywood could be a big role in the characters and all that jazz
actor!reader is definitely on my radar, like a young heartthrob that’s getting offered parts in all the latest movies.
i love the idea of musician!reader too, could be in rock, jazz, r&b, alt, indie, or even just a drummer for a band or something. he could be a well-known producer too, or an instrumentalist who works with some of the biggest names in the world for performances and movies.
…and then there’s the random australian country singer reader that decided to pop into my brain when i first saw this ask but i’m going to put him in a box alongside southern rancher reader and place the key somewhere high up.
(country boys have no right being so attractive 🥀)
i have actually jotted down another idea that involves reader being partially/mostly deaf recently. it’s a veteran!reader, who has both a chronic leg injury and almost complete deafness in his right ear, but some ability to hear with his right. since he’s young and people don’t expect him to be a veteran, he’s often taken for granted and seen as lazy as he can’t work a lot of jobs well. and that because he’s not the textbook completely deaf as what’s often portrayed in media, people don’t understand why he can’t just listen harder when they speak, and also the fact he’s adjusting to being deaf in the first place. i can imagine him to be a bit grumpy about the whole ordeal but a sweetheart inside that just needs someone to teach him it’s okay to struggle and it’s okay to not be perfect.
i can imagine for example shane spending months learning sign language just to realise that reader does not use sign language yet and teaches him the basics himself. and ilya helping him regain confidence and independence in tasks that he put off as impossible due to his disabilities. or even if i’d go the skip route — scott learning not to mumble and speak clearly and kip researching like crazy on ways to help ease the chronic pain without doping him up on countless drugs (he gives me the vibe that he already knows things like sign language and how to interact with people with hearing difficulties without being disrespectful or leaving them out in any way)
i fr need to make a whole document on all my ideas and add to it whenever people give me insight and ideas because i am loosing track XD
