“Today’s the day, Len. Today’s the day.” Here stand two of mankind’s bravest adventurers: Rin, the fearless heroine, hand in hand with Len, the stalwart hero. And they’re about to embark on what’ll certainly go down in history as the most thrilling journey that’s ever taken place — actually, as far as she’s concerned, it’s the only one of this sort that someone from their world will have ever undergone. She supposes that this makes them pioneers, in a way; and if everything goes well, they’ll be the first idols ever to make it big across multiple universes. Fame is just around the corner ( or technically, right in front of them in the form of a portal ).

The best part is, today’s just the first of what’ll definitely be many, many other adventures. With an extra-heavy pack on her back containing equipment for every possible sticky situation they could encounter ( she still thinks the road roller would’ve flattened anything in their way, but supposes that she’ll let Len win on that one ) and a super duper adventurer-like furrow in her brow as she faces the portal, there’s no doubt about the fact that the older Kagamine twin is ready to go.

She gives Len’s hand a squeeze. “Let’s go, let’s go! Are you ready?”

März always dreamed of traveling outside of his forest home, but not like this. He wanted to travel alongside his mother, and perhaps even bring his dear friend along if her guardian allowed it. When stumbling out of the Star Gate, he’s greeted with a narrow space; there was a back entrance off to the side. All he could think of at the moment was to get out, and that is exactly what he did. He left the alleyway, and walked into the bustling streets of the unknown city. But he regretted his reckless courage, because upon leaving the alleyway, a roar of something inhuman caused for him to yell out in surprise. This earned him a few stares from the other civilians walking through the streets. He flushes in embarrassment, and he clutches onto the charred straw doll childishly.

He didn’t have enough time to see what it was, but caught a glimpse of someone inside it. What was that? Why was someone inside of it? The young pre-teen immediately hurried back into the comforts of the dingy alleyway. He slides his back down, inhaling sharply. His mother wasn’t here now, so he had to be strong on his own. Not like he wasn’t already becoming independent– but this place was quite overwhelming to him presently.

But being thrust into this world after what happened, it left the poor boy tired. Before closing his eyes, he hears the sound of a door opening and sees the entrance he passed by before open up and spots someone coming out into the alleyway as well.

He jumps to his feet, with doll safely tucked away, and approaches the other hesitantly. Upon closer inspection, he seemed to be a few inches taller than her. She had blond hair too, just like his dear friend.

“…Entschuldigen Sie….um…cou….could you tell me where I am?”

“Ahh, man... I’m beat!” A noise of pure exhaustion is emitted as both arms are raised above her head; after an entire day cooped up inside despite the glorious sunshine, Rin’s been more than just antsy for the past few hours. “Isn’t there some kind of labour law that says I should get more breaks? More pay, too... ” She sighs. “Then I could build my own studio and be my own producer. Music video in America, here we come... !”

Needless to say, today hasn’t been the best of days. Her bag is slung over one shoulder once she’s ready to head out, and a two-fingered salute is offered to the remaining staff members before escaping into blissful, joyous sunshine — sunshine, and a strange boy. Holding one hand up to her eyes, Rin squints at the stranger for a long moment before breaking into a grin. Perfect timing.

“It depends,” she says coolly, propping herself up against the doorframe with an arm while doing her best to look down on him at the same time. “Do you have money, kid?” Not that she’s one to comment on his age, but if she’s gonna quote scary lines from gangster movies, it’s gotta be the whole package or nothing. “Let your wallet do the talking.”

And to top off what’s been an extremely unconvincing attempt to extort an innocent world-visitor, her stomach chooses that moment to let out an extremely ladylike growl. Rin sinks to her knees with an exaggerated wail. “Seriously, this isn’t fair... ! First they put me on a new diet plan because ‘Rin-chan, I think you’ve gained weight lately,’ and then Meiko-san of all people gets to shoot an overseas music video. It’s totally unfair!” She holds her head in her hands with another moan — looks like she won’t be in the mood to give any city tours today. “This is the worst. I think I’m gonna starve. Make me food or I won’t help you get back to your world.”

Now, this… this city was unique. Blake had thought Vale to be one of the end-alls in large, crowded cities– but wherever this country was, the place Blake had landed this time seemed to take the cake for it. Clamoring out of the most recent portal she’d entered, Blake had been spat out in a back alley connected to a street that could only be describes as chaotic. Making a face somewhere between reluctance and queasiness, she turned around and melted back into the alley. 

Just as she had been ready to climb back in and find somewhere else to scour, something caught her attention– a melodious voice filled the air, drifting dfown from somewhere in the expansive building she’d crouched next to. She’d never quite heard anything like it– sure, there were many talented signers around where she’d come from, but this… this voice didn’t sound all human. It was light, and high– like the sound of windchimes filtered through high-quality speakers. 

Curiosity getting the better of her, she looked around– there didn’t appear to be anywhere else to go from there, considering the only door at ground-level was locked. Eyeing the large, insanely high wall, she shrugged– it was rare for Blake to meddle too much  in the places she visited, but she had little interest in wandering around the stargate any longer than she already had. Hoisting herself onto the nearest hold she could find, she decided she’d scale what she could of the building– she had to find out who, or what, was creating that melody.

“Thank you for such wonderful days. Somehow I, somehow I — I don’t feel lonely.” A complete lie, given her current circumstances; with blonde locks plastered against her forehead, a towel draped against her neck, and a fake microphone in one hand while her other is raised midway in the air, a certain fourteen-year-old has never felt more alone. “Thank you for those days,” she continues to sing, and again, “Thank you,” once her hand falls back to her side. Although the music’s beginning to trail off, however, Rin isn’t quite finished. Taking a deep breath and putting the microphone right against her lips, she growls out a final, spoken, “Thank you — for keeping me cooped up practising in here while everyone else got to go shoot a beach music video, stupid producers... !”

And then it’s done, she’s swinging the towel into her hands while tossing her head back with as much dramatic flair as she can manage — and in the process, catching sight of a black shape outside the window that definitely shouldn’t be here. Rin drops the towel and bites back a scream, choosing instead to stare; that too only lasts mere seconds, and then she’s also tossing away the practice mic before hurrying out of the room with a, “I’m tired, Rin-chan’s taking a break!” shot over her shoulder.

Only once she’s arrived in the practice room next door ( empty, thankfully, with the exception of some ocean-themed props they’d probably decided not to bring on today’s shoot ) does she make a beeline for the window, shoving it open with all of her strength and poking her head out. “Psst!” she whispers to the girl, beckoning with one hand in an added attempt to get her attention. Although she’d suspected it at first sight, a closer look at the strange black attire confirms it — looks like another world-traveller’s arrived. “Hey, you! You’re gonna fall or get caught, hurry and come over here... !”

          Since the showing of the pillar there’s been more strange people popping through, ones with odd clothes and that seem to take in the surrounds with wide eyed confusion. Allen, eyes sharp and alert, is always on the lookout for a wayward traveler or two, no reason for them to wandering around the city lost. Tim is too, of course, and it’s the golem that lets Allen know when a new person has passed through, tugging at the fabric of his clothes until the teen actually pays attention to the entryway. 

“Hello,” the teen gives a smile, polite and friendly as always. “If you need help, I can be your guide, though the city is easy to get used to after a while I suppose.”

It hadn’t been on purpose. At least, that’s the excuse she’ll repeat over and over again when she gets back home after this — the first thing the twins’d decided after discovering the portal’s existence had been don’t go in alone, after all. There could be dangerous things on the other side, they didn’t know if it’d be hard to return home, blah blah blah, sticking together and going through when they were ready was the best course of action. Of course.

Well, it’d be a waste to just go back without looking around a bit, she figures. A straightening of her back and widening of her grin confirms this, and then Rin’s swivelling around — where she’s greeted by the cutest thing ever. “Ehh — ?!” Eyes light up and then she’s stepping forward, gaze and attention focused solely what appears to be a golden ball with wings ( and as a result, completely disregarding whatever greeting’d been offered by Golden Ball-chan’s companion ). “What, what? No way... you’re so cute!”

And then, being the cautious and careful young lady she is, Rin proceeds to stretch a hand out in hopes of petting it. “C’mere... can I pet you... ?”

[ ↺ } Well the landing could have been a bit better but hey, maybe that was just one more trick behind the portals he had to get behind. Deciding to jump headfirst into a new portal just for the sake of exploring new lands would he find himself in.. well, just that. Although a bit more underwhelming than expected given the land he was now a part of seemed rather stinky and bleak. Not exactly a winning combination for him but maybe it would surprise him?

[ ↺ } Rubbing his head a bit in pain, he’d look up at the apparent welcoming squad that having been a young girl who seemed to have been.. probably the official reporter for those who wandered here? At least he wouldn’t be lost, so that gave him a bit of confidence and reassurance in the matter. Standing up and brushing himself off, he’d let the girl before him introduce herself as.. apparently someone rather infamous? He had to remember for a moment he was in a new world–so that meant the rules and plans were different this time around. So even if he hadn’t heard of her before, there was a chance in these parts, she was right in how influential she was. 

“ Really?! Then I suppose I should count my blessings I have someone such as influential as yourself to help me around these parts. “ He’d say with a happy nod of his head, looking rather excited at the prospect of speaking with someone so famous. Actually, since she had so much power here.. then she probably knew others who were equally so if not just a bit below her in that regard. He would have loved to meet them, but first he should at least get acquainted with her. 

“ My name is Morgan, and sadly, I’m nowhere near as impressive as yourself in that regard back in my land but in due time, I will be so just you wait! It’s a rather great honor to meet you like this, Rin! This should make exploring these parts a lot easier and more invigorating given the circumstances! “ 

“ If you would be so kind, would it be alright if you showed me your kingdom first? I would love to see how other worlds construct their castles for royalty! “ You know, that castle. Right, Rin?

He’s fallen for it — hook, line, and sinker. For a moment, she just wants to stand and gloat ( her acting skills have totally levelled up! ), but the situation says otherwise; as gullible as this happy-go-lucky guy seems, he’s started asking about things that’ll take every ounce of her creative abilities to field. Time to find him a castle, and considering the state that her room’s in right now, the house wouldn’t be a good idea. The fact that Len wouldn’t exactly be thrilled to play along with her little game is also just a bit of an issue.

She figures that there are two options: one, explain that there isn’t anything like that here but that she can bring him to the local arcade to shoot some zombies if he’s so inclined, or two, make up something even more interesting. The thoughts spark a lightbulb in her mind, and then she’s suddenly beaming even more widely than before — because hey, why not do both?

“Hehe. Then today’s definitely your lucky day, Morgan!” With her chest and nose puffed up to the heavens themselves, Rin’s boastful statements fall out one after the other. It’s fine, really — even if Morgan figures it out, he seems like the type to be able to take a joke, after all. Probably. “Thankfully, I don’t let my fame and glory get to my head, so don’t you worry! We’re gonna have tons of fun.” Again, probably. She spins on her heel then, letting one hand come to rest on her hip as she jabs the other in the direction of the main street behind them. “First things first, let’s get out of this dingy alleyway. I’ll show you all of the wonders that Sapporo has to offer!” And, cue a flourish with said hand, just to emphasize the grandeur of what he’s about to see.

Still, his talk of kingdoms and royalty piques her interest a bit too; Rin isn’t about to let up on the chance to find out more about Morgan’s own world, so she drops it in the form of a casual question thrown over one shoulder. “But hey, what kinds of castles do you have back home?” A grin. “Just so I know what sorta competition I’m up against here.”

In hindsight, this probably wasn’t the best of ideas. Definitely wasn’t, if she thinks about it a bit more. But thinking, especially before acting, isn’t something that Rin Kagamine typically concerns herself with too much, hence the giant grin she’s presently sporting while perched behind the wheel of her trusty road roller. After all — sure, there might be countless dangers lurking beyond the portal, but armed with her favorite yellow vehicle, she’ll be the safest girl on the face of the planet.

                Her logic is impeccable.

So it’s with the roar of an engine and a glance over her shoulder ( ‘borrowing’ successful, I’ll be back before sunrise! ) that she quite nearly drives right into the portal’s latest delivery; tonight, that delivery takes the form of a violet-locked girl. “Hey, watch out!” Both feet are slammed onto the brakes, her treasured vehicle coming to a grinding halt just a bit too close for comfort — but hey, no harm done. Probably. 

Rin peers down, the still-rumbling engine drowning out her words to the point where she’s half-yelling the words that follow. “Hey! Hey! Are you alright? Appearing out of the blue like that — I could’ve run you over!”

            “ wait, wait! don’t shoot — ! ”

the waving of hands that accompanies her statement is filled with the overexaggeration that's characteristic of the fourteen-year-old, yet there’s no denying that there’s fair cause for alarm right now. eyes wide, arms held up in front of her as if they’ll somehow be able to protect her if this stranger does decide to attack, rin freezes in place and continues to shout at the gun-toting figure who’s the latest person to step through her local portal. “you can put the gun down! it’s totally safe here, i promise!” a pause. “i can give you money if that’s what you want, too! lots of money!” very convincing. totally convincing.

     Sunshine tresses that are reminiscent of the golden linings found in the timeworn volumes that are presently stored within the lamentably tenebrous room that she has temporarily abandoned are unhurriedly devoured by vigilant optics. An unmistakable air of peppiness practically clings to this unrecognizable figure, which successfully quells any lingering doubts that might have arisen during the moment of her graceful approach. Coherent words embraced by unyielding politeness pry open springtime gates. 

❝ I don’t suppose you happen to be available at the moment. I came through that glowing pathway behind me, and this is my first time here. I would much rather let the wind take me where it may, but I’m afraid I don’t have long. Might you be able to give me a tour? I must be back here before sunset. ❞

Super pretty! Together with the formal way in which she’s speaking, Rin’s first impression of this person is 'something along the lines of royalty.’ More likely, it’s just her over-active imagination, although there have been others coming through with pretty cool stories to tell.

She’ll start with introductions, though. A hand is rested one on hip, with its counterpart soon rising up to hold a V-shaped peace sign up in the air — “Leave it to the amazing Rin Kagamine!” she announces, an undeniably chipper note resting amidst the confident declaration. “Heh. I’ve gotten pretty good at this, with all the people coming through that thing lately.” It’s a not-so-subtle brag that follows, but Rin figures that it’s as good of a time as any to get her credibility established; and hey, maybe if the idol industry ever goes downhill, she can consider a career as a tour guide.

“But, first things first... ” Her words suddenly take on a more somber tinge, and features press into the closest semblance of seriousness that the fourteen-year-old can manage. “The services of a professional like me don’t come for free.” She waggles an eyebrow, unable to conceal the mischief dancing through cerulean hues. “Y’know what I mean?”

If this goes well, she’s totally splurging on that cool new action game she saw the other day.

Maybe she’s been taking this host thing a tad too seriously. At least, with the volume of strangers coming through the portal nowadays, she’s struggling to think of something new, something more exciting — geeze, it’s seriously hard to top yourself when you’re already the funniest person in town. 

Exaggerations aside, though, it’s just been another ordinary day of peeking into the alleyway during her first break, her second, and then as work lets out. A sigh’s fully ready to tumble forth from already-tired vocal chords ( maybe I’ll just play video games with Len tonight ); but instead, but the sight of purple and gold against Mr. Dumpster’s otherwise dismal backdrop sends a thrill through her. She breaks into a huge smile and is about to greet the stranger with her usual enthusiasm, but the nagging thought from earlier brings her feet to a stop.

                      More exciting, more exciting. 

She can do that — she’s an idol, after all. And every good idol has a catchphrase, so, beginning once more, striking an adorable pose with two fingers in a ‘v’ formation in front of one eye while her right foot’s kicked up behind her, Rin winks. It’s the perfect time to debut a catchphrase of her own. “With the sweetest, brightest, and cutest voice, I’m the fourteen-year-old idol Rin Kagamine!” And hey, even if this is a total flop, it’s never too late to start promoting her image overseas. Or does this whole portal travel make it overgalaxies?

Ever the opportunist, she forges on with a silent plea to her brother — sorry, but I’m just gonna tell a tiiiiny white lie! “I’m super famous in this country, y’know, so you should be thankful that the amazing Rin-sama’s here to escort you!”

Stopping by this place has become part of her daily routine, and today is no exception. With bubble tea in one hand and a shopping bag filled to the brim with chips, crackers, and everything else good in the world in the other, there’s a light hum on Rin’s lips as she ducks into the now-familiar alleyway. A cheery sip’s taken as lips come to rest on the bright yellow straw, and her nose wrinkles just as quickly when the stench of dumpster reaches her senses; seriously, someone needs to move this thing. Even her peach slushie doesn’t taste good any more.

There hasn’t been a new person coming through for a few days, and she’s beginning to wonder if there’s something wrong with the magic light ( ‘cause there’s no way the problem is her amazing skills as a host ), yet the sight of an unfamiliar but incredibly normal-looking girl standing by the portal causes her to freeze on the spot. 

She hadn’t considered this scenario. 

Yet the longer she stares, the more sense it makes, and Rin rests a hand on her hip while continuing to drink; this time, sipping a lot more forcefully. There’s a long pause as she swallows, rests the plastic bag-holding hand against her waist, and then clears her throat pointedly.

                 “Hey!”

Looks like it’s time to protect her property — because Rin Kagamine isn’t about to let some other girl take away all the fun of playing with the cool-looking strangers who come through the portal. At the very least, she’d better stop hogging them all to herself and share. And armed with a bag full of bribes ( there are even crispy salmon flavored chips, who could resist? ), she’s more prepared than ever. “What are you doing?”

“So pretty — !” She blurts it without thinking, a shroud of green hair being the first thing Rin sees upon sneaking out the studio’s back door ( seriously, taking breaks back here sure beats anywhere else in that stuffy building, especially since the AC’s broken today ); yet once her eyes adjust to the sunlight, the stranger’s outfit is what steals her attention instead. The blonde’s practically bouncing on the tips of her toes as she hurriedly closes the distance between them. 

“You’re really pretty, ma’am!” she repeats, and hands close over the woman’s without missing a beat. “You came through the portal, right? Do you want a tour? Let’s go on a tour! I can sneak you into the studio if you want... !” This lady’s costume is way more elaborate than anything they’ve shot music videos in, and a burst of pride shoots through her chest at the thought of showing off her newfound companion to the wardrobe team. They’ll definitely be impressed and praise her — and maybe along with that, she’ll get more breaks as a reward. 

She beams. “I’m Rin, and I’ll be your guide for the day!”

her back is sore. along with a number of other parts too, really — the side of her face, for example, where it’s been pressed first against her palm, then her arm, and finally the dew-moistened concrete of a nearby wall. maybe she’ll grab a folding chair from the studio the next time she decides to do something like this.

still, rin kagamine is nothing if not stubborn; something the full one hour ( practically an eternity, by the fourteen-year-old’s standards ) she’s been planted smack in front of the world portal pays testament to. a hand is raised to muffle a yawn. once, twice, eyes flutter shut, and the sun’s warmth is almost enough to lull her off to a world that not a thousand more strange lights could lead to —

and then, finally, something happens.

wrapped up in what’s definitely the best yawn ever as she is, rin misses whatever initial pyrotechnics or other magic accompanies the portal’s activation. all she knows is one second, the alleyway is completely deserted with the exception of her and a dumpster ( seriously, it’s convenient and all that this weird portal thing is right behind the studio, but couldn’t whoever made it have put it somewhere nicer-smelling? ), and in the next, a stranger has arrived.

she practically jumps for joy. “whoaaaa — !” all traces of sleepiness gone, she’s up and studying him from head to toe before ducking around to get a view of the back as well, eyes and face brighter than the fireworks at a summer festival. “sweet, sweet — it actually worked! someone came through!” her excitement is practically tangible as she continues to look him over. “hey mister, are you a gangster? or a secret agent? what’s your name? where are you from?”

hello hellooooo! your friendly neighbourhood fourteen-year-old with a road roller here ( i’m still very excited about this please let me incorporate it into a thread ) — behind the scenes, you can call me riri, although i’ve also gone by kiwi in the past! 21, she/her, and more often than not, i’m probably yelling about cute idols on twitter, so feel free to connect over there, yeah?
