“What can I get for you tonight?” Sometimes she really hated her job, and tonight was one of those nights. So naturally Jasmine forced her smiles and acted like she actually wanted to be there. // @secretsummerstarters
“Whatever you’ve got on tap, thanks.” Holly worked up a smile as she adjusted herself on the bar stool and looked up from her phone.
“You know I truly hate when the mailman decides to mail someone else’s papers to my address. This is insane.” @secretsummerstarters
“I guess it must have gotten stuck in between your mail and they missed it?”

“I’m fine, I swear.” // @secretsummerstarters
“Are you sure...?” She couldn’t help but ask before shaking her head. “Sorry.” She didn’t need someone she didn’t know poking around, right?
william--darcy:
Will couldn’t believe it. She was right here in front of him. Was the child still around? The kid had to be considering his parents were paying her. Which one thing he didn’t approve of because he actually missed the chance to get to know his own child and watch that child grow. “Hey. Are you–are you back?”
“Yep. I am. Don’t worry. I’ll stay out of your way.” She said, making to move past him.
amanda--ford:
Amanda smiled softly and nodded. “That is certainly good and thank God it didn’t fall into the drain…” She said, eyeing the drain that the phone had nearly landed in.
Holly made a face, nodding. “God, tell me about it... there’s no way I’d be able to afford a new one for a million years.” She chuckled.
amanda--ford:
Amanda had come to stop, looking down at her own phone to text. It. probably wasn’t the most well thought out place to stop, but she also didn’t have the luxury of texting and walking at the same time anymore. She hit send and looked up just in time to find someone nearly landing her lap. She gave a tiny laugh, reaching up to put her hands up to stop her from stepping back any further. “You are fine, really… I don’t think either of us were paying attention.”
Holly shook her head, grabbing the phone and realising it’d already dropped the call. She sighed and put her phone away - her sister would have to wait. She looked over at the woman and quickly shook her head. “Uh... no, really... I should have been watching.... nothing broken so... it’s all good.”
elise-ramsey:
“You and me both, I do need to start paying attention to my surroundings. That’s what got me in trouble a few times…” She replied, remembering the times she was kidnapped and stuff.
Holly worked up as best a smile as she could manage. “I guess we all do it sometimes.”
elise-ramsey:
She waved her hand, “ It’s alright. I’m not hurt or anything like that. I hope your phone isn’t broken though…”
“I think it’s alright...” She muttered, looking it over. It had hung up on her sister though and she sighed, looking up with a little shrug. “I really should have been looking, sorry.”
It’s a funny thing about coming home. Looks the same, smells the same, feels the same. You’ll realize what’s changed is you.
F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (via broveria)
william--darcy:
The moment that Will heard her voice, he stopped in tracks. Was it possible? Was she really back? He should have moved or something but he didn’t instead he stood there which was why she had bumped into him or maybe she was frustrated. She seemed frustrated. “It’s okay.” He stated, watching her pick up her phone. “Holly..”
Holly looked up finally, a little sharply when she heard her name and then the voice registered. William. Shit. God, she was glad Alison was with Ashleigh. “Oh. Hi.” She stood up properly and quickly hung up the phone, shoving it into her pocket.
shelley-burke:
Shelley had her head up in the clouds when she felt herself crash into the woman. “Oh gosh no. It’s my fault. I’m so sorry.” she said quickly worried about the other woman. “Are you okay. Is your phone okay?”
Holly winced, looking up at the other blonde. “Are you sure? I was so distracted by--” Shit. Her sister. She put the phone to her ear quickly. “Hey, I’m gonna have to call you back, okay? No.. Ash... I’ll call you back.” She hung up and sighed, turning back to the other. “It seems to be alright.” Luckily, as she looked at it, she realised it hadn’t cracked by some miracle. “No real harm done. It’s really okay.”
“Wait, she what?” Holly frowned, talking into the phone. She sighed. “Can’t you just take care of it? Please?” Ashleigh knew she was preparing for an interview and needed time to just go over it all and chill out. “I don’t know, tell her she can’t go to Luke’s if she doesn’t--shit!” Holly felt her phone smack out of her hand and crash to the ground. She’d walked smack back into someone and dropped the damn thing near the gutter. Lucky it didn’t fall down the drain. “Ugh... god. I’m so sorry.” She said quickly to whoever it was, ducking down so she could snatch the phone back up.

“This place is not what it was when I was growing up.”
→ Background
Holly Manning lived in Baberton until she was sixteen. She grew up in a pretty tumultuous household. Her parents weren’t cruel but it was clear they weren’t in love each other anymore. This meant that there were plenty of arguments around Holly’s house while she was growing up. Her big sister was pretty frustrated by the whole thing and moved out as quick as she could, not understanding why their parents didn’t just divorce… but they believed in marriage and were planning to stick it out. Holly held her sister’s views too but she loved her parents and she could understand to an extent. Holly went out a lot with her friends, using fake ID’s and sneaking into clubs, crashing high school house parties, and generally just getting into all sorts of normal teenage trouble around town. She and her friends had fun and Holly loved growing up.
At the age of sixteen she met this guy in a bar. His name was William Darcy and she felt so drawn to him. He was very attractive and he seemed intelligent and funny. She spent a little time with him, drank one or two (or five) beers with him and thought that he was really someone she could spend her life with. Falling in love was very new to Holly and she did it way too easily. She didn’t even notice that he didn’t seem to care about her the way she did him, and just wanted to have some fun. One thing led to another, they hooked up a few times, and a couple of months later she was pregnant with his child. But once his parents found out, she simply wasn’t allowed to talk to him. They offered her a large amount of money to disappear. Said they would try to take care of the child and send money monthly. This ripped her heart out because the family told her that this was what Will wanted too.
So she took the money, because her mother suddenly became terribly sick and the Manning’s really needed it… and she got the hell out of that town. Abortion was not an option for her. Holly moved to a small town near Chelsea where she had some cousins, using the excuse she wanted to be closer to them and to study there, and carried on her life a teen mum. She lived off the money the Darcy’s sent her every month, sending some back to her own parents to help them, and raised her daughter alone. When Alison Manning was born Holly’s attention was all on that girl and she tried to ignore all the hatred she had now towards Alison’s father. Holly wanted to be better than he was… she wanted to be a role model to her child.
→ Back to Baberton
Holly has only been back in town for a couple of months or so. She wanted to see her parents and her sister again and is on the lookout for a job… since she knows when the Darcy’s find out about her being back, they would cut off the money, or try to get rid of her again again. Her little girl is eight now and Holly figures that that’s enough time for Will to have forgotten her completely. She’s sure she can avoid seeing him around. Holly is still very torn up about the fact that his family said he wanted them gone too. She had naively fallen in love with Will when she was sixteen and Holly never got over the betrayal and the rejection. She had all these stupid childish dreams of raising her child with a man who loved her, unlike her parents, and she was devastated.
Holly had no idea really how dangerous her home town had gotten over the years and that the friends she’d left behind were now living in daily fear for their lives. Her sister did tell her some things but Holly honestly just thought that it was all a bit of a dramatisation and that it would all be sorted soon by the police… but it’s worse than she thought and has been going on for years. Still, she isn’t one to back out and she’s determined to keep with her decision of coming home. They don’t know how much time her own mother has left now and Holly wants to be close to her family and she wants Alison to be too. The fighting between her parents has now ended and Holly and her sister just want to get through it all.
→ What’s Her Secret?
When she found out she was pregnant, Holly was more than a little lost. She wound up sitting in the park and just crying her heart out. Angry about the fact that she thought Will didn’t want to have that child and that she was alone and they were both unwanted. Annie Pierce showed up and Holly was so upset that she just told the girl the whole story. Annie rubbed it in her face that Will was dating Kelly Sharpe, one of Annie’s best friends. Holly was even more upset then, not understanding why he’d want to seriously date someone now all of a sudden but not her… she wasn’t good enough? Holly was devastated honestly and all the while Annie was just playing with and laughing at her.
Has an ugly habit of exhausting herself. She tends to go to the gym multiple times a week when she has someone to look after Alison and trains as long as she can, often ending up fainting in the gym or out on the street. But this seems like the only way to control all the anger that has grown in her all these years, for the guy who never loved her or their daughter.
In Chelsea, walking home from work one day, Holly came upon a situation she should never have witnessed. Three men robbing a store and beating a man to death as he tried to stop them. She was frozen in fear before she finally made herself move. They all saw her and she took off running down an alleyway and had to sit for an hour behind a recycling bin until she was sure they’d left the area. Sobbing, she made her way to the nearest police station but they weren’t much help. Eventually, she had to be called in to identify these guys but she fled to Baberton before she was able, just overcome with fear that there would be retaliation. She’s still terrified but Holly just hopes they’ll forget about her.
Holly has bipolar disorder, which she found out when she was twenty. It was a hard time for her as Alison was four and she was in and out of psychosis and she simply believed her postnatal depression simply hadn’t cleared up. When the doctors realised it had been years, they did some investigating and she was nearly hospitalized after a manic episode but luckily she was able to be treated at home and still be able to look after Alison. She’s terrified she’s going to become one of those horrible, stereotypical, unhinged bipolar mothers you see portrayed in the media who will do nothing but cause her daughter stress and anxiety and pain. She puts a lot of pressure on herself to be ‘perfect’ and anything less than can make her break down in tears. She doesn’t want to be the reason her little girl ends up in therapy herself some day, whether that be because her mother was a freak or because her mother passed on her freakiness.
