HOLY CLUCK! We Crossed the Road!
Find us at http://holy-cluck.com - OR - if you can't remember that pesky dash in the middle, try http://chickenburger.reviews - SQUAAWK!
Purveyor: The Rose Hotel, Chippendale, NSW Australia
Menu Item: Chicken Burger
Price: $15 (with a Beer)
Squawk: Comes with a beer. And Huffman's hot sauce which actually isn't that hot, but does taste nice. Overall this is a decent burger, nothing too fancy or surprising. One thing that confused us was the orange sauce (cheese?) dripping all over the damn thing - it looks amazing, but it was bland and we still don't know exactly what it was.
Buaawk: The only way you can get away with a mystery sauce is if it's so damn delicious nobody cares that you made it out of dead baby's tears. Or whatever. Point is... what is it? Also the bun was a bit thick and sweet.
Rating: (5/10)
Purveyor: Three Williams Cafe, Redfern, NSW, Australia
Menu Item: Chicken Schnitzel Burger
Price: $18
Squawk: Great chips - thick, crunchy and salty. Great sauces too - Sriracha, Garlic Aioli, and Wasabi Mayo. As for the burger, which is what you really want to know about, the bun was nice and soft, perfectly toasted and seeded. Fresh greens always nice. And nice presentation.
Buaawk: Schnitzel was a bit over fried - and small. Majorly overloaded with picked red onions. Like waaaaay toooooo maaaaaany.
Rating: 6/10
Bonus: Friendly staff turned off the A/C which was blowing a frigid breeze directly at our table. Props.
Purveyor: Hive Bar, Erskineville, NSW, Australia
Menu Item: Sriracha Chicken Burger
Price: $9 Lunch Special (normally $18)
Squawk: Great bun. I believe the correct term is "brioche." Super tender white meat - maybe even too marinated, not a flavour bomb, but overly moist. Decent fries, but a bit cold. Great (read: unusual) beers on tap.
Buaawk: Last time I checked Sriracha had some heat. This burger did not. Wasn't spicy, no mouth burn, not even a tingle. They've mixed it with so much mayo, they may as well call it the "Red Mayo Chicken Burger."
Rating: 5/10
Purveyor: Texas Chicken, Singapore Airport
Menu Item: Big Tex Burger Combo
Price: $6.80
Squawk: Chicken was better than it looked - juicy, tender despite being a little cool. Tomato was nice to see on there too after our recent Helsinki Hesburger experience.
Buaawk: What self respecting chicken chain has the nerve to:
A) call themselves "Texas Chicken," and then
B) not have any true Texas style vinegar based hot sauce? That is a major fail. And when you factor in they we're serving Asian style chili sauce instead, well that's just plain wrong. Even if we are in Singapore. It's not Singapore Chicken. Somebody in Texas needs to get dragged behind a pickup for that one. Also, major Mayo overload and the fries weren't hot. On top of all that, every table in the place was dirty, there we're no napkins, and the sweaty, frustrated staff were just obese enough to make me seriously consider a Subway salad instead. And you know how gross those are. With a name like Texas Chicken it has to be good - and it wasn't. There's probably worse out there, but we hope not.
Rating: 2/10
Purveyor: Hesburger, Helsinki Finland
Menu Item: Chicken Burger Combo (Small)
Price: €4 Euros
Squawk: Greasy chips, but with a nice crunch, iceberg lettuce was fresh and crisp. Bonus points for being uniquely Finnish.
Buaawk: Burger is a fried, processed patty that may as well be potato, or Silly Putty. Overloaded with mayo and the bun was hard. And sweet. A not delicious combo.
Rating: 3/10
Could this be the new official beer of Holy Cluck? Yes. Yes it could.
This is how you say "chicken burger" in Swedish. Sadly I spotted this joint on my way to breakfast and it was just too early to give it a try. I know what you're thinking, it's never too early for a chicken burger. And you're right. My bad.
Spotted in Oslo, Norway - he comes with his own soundtrack on a vinyl 45. I haven't heard it, but if probably sounds like "crunch, crunch, crunch, chew, chew, chew."
Purveyor: Lucky Strike, Soho NYC
Menu Item: Grilled Chicken Sandwich
Price: $17 USD
Squawk: Perfectly cooked/seasoned chicken breast, and the addition of crispy bacon elevates the sandwich, The side of Dijon mustard makes this one near perfection. Bonus points for great candlelit atmosphere and female DJ playing obscure funk hits.
Buaawk: Everything was hot except the toast, and the fries we're a little cold as well. Distribution of the aforementioned delicious bacon was uneven.
Rating: 9/10
Should this be the new Holy Cluck logo? Designers are standing by.
Purveyor: Norfolk Hotel, Redfern NSW, Australia
Menu Item: Fried Chicken Burger
Price: $12 AUD
Squawk: Nice brioche, bonus points for the Yucataca hot sauce.
Buaawk: Minus points for inconsistency - some burgers have much less chicken than others, and french fry portions vary greatly. Also the minuscule serving of tomato sauce for the fries/chips is just plain inconsiderate.
Rating: 8/10
