End of the World: An Angel's view.
The first time that Samandiriel ever felt hunger, he had no idea what to make of it. He didn’t even recognize the feeling. The vessel’s stomach cramped and rumbled and the angel in all his confusion knew nothing of what that meant. He thought it was something that would pass, but then with the hunger came fatigue. This feeling just like the last was completely foreign to the angel. Celestial beings didn’t feel hunger or tiredness, yet here we was feeling those very things among this spreading chaos. Had he fallen—? That couldn’t have been. When he’d stretched his wings they were still pure white, but even the simple action of revealing them which took no effort at all felt like a work out.
Soon tempurature was affectiong him and a coldness was growing from within him too. It was a hollowness that slowly grew more and more. Something was terribly wrong. The angel had heard stories of fading graces and what would or could happen in such an instance. After a while he put two and two together and realized this was perhaps his end too, though he knew not why.
Samandiriel had been cut off from revelation or any news from heaven long ago. He had no clue that his home had given up on the human, that they’d closed their gates and those of their siblings that remained were left to flounder. Until the end came, it wasn’t uncommon for the angel to meet many of his other siblings on earth. But as of late he had not even met one. Again the thought of something being terribly wrong set in as his mind lingered on that newly developed fact. They were the shepherds of their father’s most prized flock and in their time of need no shepherd could be found.
Seeing all the carnage struck a new type of heartache in the angel, a more human heartache. He had felt sadness before, but never to this extent; angels weren’t made for it. So much death surrounded him, so much destruction that the angel doubted he could bear it. But he had a job to do and he would do it as best as he could till his grace gave out and death finally greeted him.
In his travels he’d passed through many states, tried to help all those he could, and had many close encounters with his potential demise. Over time he was less able to help, forced to be more concerned about his own survival, but he still tried. He couldn’t heal, but he’d learned human ways to try and help mend. As he passed through he’d picked up how to set broken bones and stitch wounds that could be survived.
As the sun started to set, the angel began to search for a safe place to wait the night out. As he searched, for the first time since this disaster struck, he felt the grace of another sibling near himself. He began to run towards the grace, flying was too difficult now; he couldn’t manage the exertion anymore, it left him weak for days.
Soon in the distance he saw the vessel and felt the grace more. The body seemed to be loosing balance and so the angel pushed harder to get to his sibling. He hoped that he’d not startle the other, trying to call to the other angel with his grace. Once at her side, Samadiriel steadied his swaying sibling. “Sister…”, he called to her, keeping his voice calm and as soothing as he could while still out of breath from running. The angel wiped away the tears he was. He knew they were brought on by great sorrow as he too had felt the warm salty water roll down his cheeks more than once since this had started.
Eyes lifting to the figure that caught her, shaking a little from exhaustion and trying not to sink against him. The smile grew, slowly and more concrete, searching his eyes and feeling his grace.
"Brother," Her voice cracked, seeming just as exhausted as she felt. "Brother- what has happened?" She seemed young, and yet felt old. She was a seraphim, closest to God, she had circled the throne, and now, that grace was a good many, but slowly sinking in amount.
There was a naivete of an angel who didn't understand Earth, who had spent her existence circling the throne. Who hadn't existed for anything but song and didn't understand this pain, this suffering. "I'm...I don't understand this feeling- I cannot stand as I once could-"
