A/N: I'm so sorry this is a day late! I had the flu over the weekend and I'm in recovery, so here I am now haha! Enjoy and as always, let me know what you think! The picture on the left is Edith Darling and the picture on the right is Lois Jones!
Unfortunately for Grace’s sensibilities, the dorm rooms were entirely underwhelming. She was used to a certain sort of class and style and comfortability, and this was most certainly not it. For one thing, there was a blatant lack of the color pink and that made Grace grimace at the ugly green color that accented the room.
She wasn’t one to complain, especially given the fact that there was a war on. It’s just that pink made things better in general and she wasn’t about to give up pink for a disgusting green color that reminded her of puke or a farm. It is to be noted that Grace did, in fact, appreciate farms—though she certainly felt for the poor little baby animals that were killed on them to supply food to the rest of the nation.
Fortunately, Gracie had a knack for taking ugly things and turning them into pretty things. It was one of her best qualities, at least in her non-professional opinion.
Still, the look of distaste on her face quickly turned to joy as soon as her roommates entered into the dorm—she had been writing to them for months and was elated to finally be in their presence. It wasn’t often that one found kindred spirits, especially in a school such as this that Grace didn’t even want to be at in the first place.
But Edith Darling and Lois Jones were heaven-sent. As much as people could be heaven-sent when you didn’t believe in that sort of thing, anyway.
Grace supposed that they were the closest things that she’d get to royalty while in the country. She’d take what she could get, at the moment, anyway. Her gaze fell on Edith Darling, all soft features and honey. Edith Darling was the type of woman that you wrote poetry about, comparing her to sunsets and how the light glistened off of stained glass. Lois Jones, in comparison, was all sharp and radiant. She was the type of woman to sing arias and compose whole operas in dedication to.
In short, Lois and Edith were the type of women that Grace herself admired and so wished that she could be.
Upon their eyes landing on Grace, the trio of girls let out gasps and clung onto one another tightly, colliding in a fit of giggles and excited chattering. Grace’s vapid tone, so fast and light, could barely keep up with their sharp accents and posh sounding words.
“When did you get here?” Edith broke away from the hug, eyes wide at her new friend.
“I’ve only been here for a few minutes,” Grace reassured her.
Immediately, Lois had latched onto her hand. “You must come and have tea with us, darling!”
Now if this was the sort of thing that Grace would be getting up to—afternoon teas, talking about boys, and sharing notes of poetry and music—then Grace would gladly spend the rest of her life at a school like this.
She beamed. “I’d love to! I’m just unpacking—”
“Oh no, do that later!” Edith exclaimed. “And then we’ll get to smuggle in all of the good stuff!” She added her latter sentence in a whisper. “We know there’s an appalling lack of pink.”
“But don’t worry, we had to hide our contraband till after you were here!” Lois reassured her, patting her hand warmly. “There will be more pink than you’ll know what to do with!”
Grace could confidently say that tea-time was something that she could get used to. There was a certain sort of refinement about the entire thing that the United States entirely lacked. She wouldn’t have minded getting swept off her feet by some British officer, if she wasn’t so sure that her father would shoot the man that did it.
Currently though, she and Edith and Lois were pinning up the floral curtains in the dorm. The dim light cast a rosy shadow against the walls and Grace knew that this was the type of place that she could get used to.
“See, it’s not so bad with some flowers,” Lois stated, finishing her arrangement in the vase near the beds.
“Flowers are nice, boys would be better,” Grace retorted.
Edith nearly laughed. “Boys aren’t allowed in these dorms, Grace darling.”
“Well that’s boring,” Grace retorted, concentrating carefully as she finished pinning up her bows on the curtains.
“Just because boys aren’t supposed to be in here doesn’t mean that we can’t sneak them in anyway,” Lois stated. “But unfortunately for all three of us, that only leaves the underclassmen or actual boys.”
“Right you are,” Edith said, flopping down onto her bed dramatically. She flung her knit blanket across her shoulders as she let out a sigh. “All of the actual men are off fighting anyway.”
“Don’t you ever go to clubs?” Grace questioned, furrowing her brow at the thought. Tatty had snuck her into a fair amount of officer’s clubs back in the States, though she was certain that it wasn’t quite the same there as it was here.
“Officers clubs? They’re just glorified boy’s clubs, honestly,” Lois retorted.
“But they do sound rather romantic to try and sneak into,” Edith said thoughtfully. At that, Lois leaned over and gave her a pinch on the knee.
“Be realistic, Eddy.”
“I am!”
Grace just grinned at the two of them. “So tell me that there’s something fun to do here,” she begged.
“Well it all depends on your definition of fun,” Lois said, sinking down beside Edith with a grin. “We’ve got a wonderful theater program, the choir sounds like angels, and I’m sure we can find you some other things to keep you busy, Gracie, darling.”
Piquing an eyebrow, Grace grinned. “She’s the darling one,” she said, pointing at Edith.
“Wow, I’ve never heard that one before,” Edith retorted dryly. She threw a pillow over at Grace, who caught it with a slight giggle.
“Oh come now, we’ve done the whole tea-time and we’ve finished decorating the room. You’re really going to tell me that you don’t have someone you’re writing to?” Grace asked doubtfully. The doubt was valid, seeing as how both Edith and Lois were proper ladies of society and had quite the number of accomplishments. Any man would be lucky to have a portion of their affections.
Her roommates in question exchanged a knowing glance, smiles slipping onto their faces. “Oh alright,” Lois said, slipping off of the bed and onto the floor. She grabbed for her mattress, revealing a small packet of letters.
“I knew it!” Grace exclaimed.
“Oh don’t tell her about Harry—he’s so dull!” Edith exclaimed.
“Fine, I’ll tell her about Barty,” Lois stated.
“Harry and Barty? Two of them?” Grace asked, eyes going wide.
“Oh you look like a doe,” Lois exclaimed, giving one of Grace’s curls a light tug of endearment. “But there’s actually three of them, thank you. I like to keep my options open.”
“Three?!”
“You should have seen her before the war started. She’d go through a beau a month,” Edith added in a conspiratorial tone.
At that, Lois leaned over and elbowed Edith. “Oh hush! I did not! It was every other month,” Lois clarified with a slight huff.
“Well?!” Grace demanded.
“Well what?”
“Aren’t you going to tell me about them?”
Lois just grinned widely at Grace. “Certainly, darling. Harry was a boy I met in school before the war. Sweet little thing—if, a little dull. Barty and I grew up down the street from one another and our mothers are in the same sewing circle. And Jamie—well I met him when he deployed—he asked me out to dinner, I said yes—we kissed, we cried—and then he was gone.”
Grace’s eyes were wide. What a romance—what a story! She wished she could have something half as exciting as all of that! “You’re a damn riot, Lois!” Gracie exclaimed in a dreamy tone.
“Oh I don’t know about that,” Lois replied with a chuckle. “I just know how to have some fun, that’s all,” she stated evenly, flouncing her curls ever so slightly. “Edith also has a boy, you know,” she added pointedly.
At that, Grace’s attention turned onto Edith, whose cheeks tinged a light pink. “Lois!” Edith exclaimed.
“Well go on!” Grace begged.
Edith gave a roll of her eyes. “Fine. His name is Daniel and he’s my brother’s friend. I used to be crazy about him, when I was a little girl. I had quite forgotten about the entire thing until the war started and he asked if he could write me. I wouldn’t say it’s anything serious, but it’s always nice to have a letter from someone who cares,” Edith explained.
Grace just let out a dramatic sigh and flopped down onto her bed again. “I wish I had someone who would write me.”
“The General Father probably wouldn’t like that,” Lois retorted with a grin.
“No,” Grace agreed. “And I’m not exactly known for being the best judge of character when it comes to men. Carla says I’m a bad luck charm and attract all sorts of nonsense.”
“Well do you?”
“Well do I what?” Grace asked, blinking at the words.
“Attract all sorts of nonsense?” Edith asked in amusement.
“Just a bit,” Grace replied with a knowing grin. “But everyone would be bored otherwise. And I did not come to this good earth to be a boring woman. How else am I supposed to become famous?”
“You, Gracie Spaatz,” Lois said with a grin. “You’re gonna do something great. I’m sure of it.”
hellooooo Carley I have retuned and are desperate for any kath and Bucky crumbs you have <<<<<33333
🥰🫶🏻🤍🫰
darling, it is so good to hear from you! I always have a few Kath and Bucky sibling crumbs for you!
-Kathryn’s favorite book after the war became Les Miserables and she eventually made Bucky read it. He cried. A lot.
-Bucky and Kathryn’s first movie they watched after the war was Bambi and they didn’t take it well
-Bucky personally has every single one of Kathryn’s medical textbooks. She put them in a burn-pile and he keeps them at his house in case she wants them back.
-Because of her infamy, Kathryn eventually pulled some strings so Bucky could see a show by Frank Sinatra
-He’s been obsessed with White Christmas for YEARS
-The group still goes swing dancing every now and then
-Every year on the anniversary of her nurses deaths, Bucky goes to visit her and he makes her tea, mixed with whiskey, and they just sit and mourn together
-Bucky taught her how to change a tire one week when Gale was away and she got a flat tire
-When Bucky gets sick, the only person he’ll let treat him or diagnose him is Kathryn
-Kathryn consistently gets him records and brings him small presents to brighten up his dark moods that he falls into
-He never made amends with his mother because of what she did and said to Kathryn
I know you get a million anons for MOTA, but! Do you ahead any headcanons on what the guys would be like in the modern era? What types of jobs they'd have, their taste in movies/music/books/TV shows? Personally I think Gale would listen to a lot of podcasts, and Bucky would somehow know all the Gen Z slang even though he would be firmly a zillennial (I say as a zillennial, with love). Also, Brady would have a dating profile that the guys set up for him without his knowledge, and Rosie would be into country music and think it was a secret, even though everyone knows.
^^Gif is not mine and credit goes to carnevol!^
A/N: Sorry it's been so long since you requested this sweetheart! I'm just getting around to it and these asks have been rotting for a while, so my apologies! But I hope you enjoy! As always, my requests remain open and I don't mind spam!
Gale Cleven:
-For work, I either see him doing some sort of landscaping/construction business or being in teaching at the local college.
-He's still an old-fashioned sorta guy, even today—so that means that he isn't big on social media
-He loves audiobooks and podcasts, especially ones on mental health and history
-He definitely doesn't really get into sports, but he religiously watches the Olympics each year and that's his roman empire
-Could spout off the most random of historical facts all while on a date
-Definitely bisexual, but only his closest friends know that
Bucky Egan:
-ZILLENIAL FOR LIFE
-He's always trying to keep up with the slang because he's not necessarily still in the age group that's making the slang, but bless his heart, tiktok teaches him what he lacks
-Speaking of tiktok, he runs a random prank account (that mostly details his pranks on the rest of his friends)
-In a non basic way, he loves starbucks and going to the gym every morning....and yes, he probably posts about it on his story
-A sweet pansexual who just wants some attention
-Probably also the type of person who randomly decides he's gonna do some good deeds and pay things forward while at the grocery store
-For sure listens to Dua Lipa haha
Robert Rosenthal:
-Claims that he loves jazz and old music but secretly listens to country music and Taylor Swift when he's alone
-Probably some sort of professional athlete who has a successful podcast where he talks about music and books
-He's a well rounded man who likes to kick back and enjoy nature
-So he'll randomly go live when he's in the middle of a hike and no one understands what he's saying
-Still gives off grandpa energy--but mostly because he cannot understand GEN Z slang to save his life (though Bucky does try to educate him)
-Definitely the type of person to highlight different charities and causes in person and online to try and help others
John Brady:
-Has a music tiktok where he promotes his own creations, both instrumental and vocally
-Definitely has a dating account that he doesn't know about and gets sent on these dates ALL of the time without knowing it
-Also solidly a Zillenial, leaning more towards Gen Z—he really likes doing morning meditations on his account, but knows way too much about the Area 51 Raid for no reason
-For work, I definitely see him doing something sensible while he's working on his music career; so maybe he's a barista or doing accounting while he's trying to get things to take off
-Misses the college days because life was easier
-Definitely the one who organizes the social events for the boys in the Hundredth (right under Bucky's watchful eye haha)
