this also counts for all those times you kept your mouth shut and didn't complain because you were being polite, and people would gladly have changed things if you had just asked. your suffering was not noble. you do not get a cookie for it, you do not get a tally mark next to your soul's score for grinning and bearing it. your suffering serves no purpose. break free of it. you deserve comfort.

On the small soggy wet archipelago that makes up the modern day united kingdom, sunny days are a rare phenomenon. As such, the peoples of england cherish each and every one, even going so far as to write songs about them in their local music. With sunlight in such high demand, to block it deliberately is nigh unthinkable, hence their cultural confusion at the invention of the parasol.

Personally I like Marx and think he's worthwhile to read and I'm a relentless "actually read theory" person. However, I think we sometimes frame this in a way that seems pedantic, didactic, and elitist. Ultimately it sounds like I want you to do something boring, even if it's for your own good.

In reality, I started reading theory because I enjoyed reading it. I enjoy reading more than most people so I'm not the more representative example. Still, in the right context theory is inspiring, invigorating, and cathartic.

Finally, reading is often more enjoyable when we do it together. Don't just read theory. Read theory with people you care about or who you want to sleep with. Leftist reading groups are an enduring part of the culture for a reason.
