A/N: For those who didn’t see my other post, going forward I probably won’t be writing much because I’ve lost interest in Choices. But an anon asked for a sequel to Conception, so here’s that. Dr. Bryce Lahela delivering his own baby feels like a pretty fitting farewell fic 👋🏾
Bryce finds Casey exactly where he left her, hibernating on their couch under a plush throw blanket. She’s bathed in blue light emanating from the cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie playing on the large TV in front of her.
He crouches before her, leaning his forehead against her baby bump. At nine months pregnant, even under the big blanket Casey’s bump is easy to spot. He presses a gentle kiss before resting his hand on her belly. Their daughter gives a little kick to his hand, and Bryce smiles. “Daddy’s got your crib up and ready, baby girl. Feel free to pop out of there any day now.”
Casey attempts to sit up, rather gracelessly thanks to her newfound girth. “Really? Let me see it.” She’s clearly still skeptical about his crib building skills. She’d been in the nursery with him supervising his progress, but she got very stressed out that he wasn’t using the instruction manual. For the sake of her blood pressure, Bryce had gently led her out of their daughter’s room and set her up on the couch in the living room. He’d then continued to build the crib without the use of the manual.
A/N: ….that post funeral 30 diamond scene left a lot to be desired in my opinion. So I’ll just write what I desire myself.
NSFW
Casey wakes first. Early morning light is starting to filter in through her curtains, which they neglected to close last night. After the emotional day, she and Bryce didn’t have energy for anything besides falling into her bed together, fully dressed in their funeral garb minus the dress shoes that they’d managed to throw off at the penthouse door.
Casey gently traces Bryce’s strong facial features as he slumbers beside her, his arm loosely wrapped around her. He’s as beautiful as ever, outwardly unaffected by the turmoil of the last couple of days. But based on their talk last night, with Bryce breaking down in front of her for the very first time, she knows emotionally he’s just as traumatized as she is.
Casey’s thumb lightly brushes over his full bottom lip. Bryce’s lips pucker as he places a kiss to the digit. “Good morning gorgeous.” He greets, voice still raspy from sleep. Those beautiful brown eyes open to peer warmly at her, and he pulls her closer with the arm wrapped around her.
“Morning.” Casey returns softly, continuing to stare at him. She’s seeing him in a new light this morning. Now that he’s taken his walls down, she feels closer to him than ever before.
Bryce traces gentle circles on her back through her black dress. If he’s uncomfortable with her intense perusal, he doesn’t show it. “How are you feeling this morning? Any better than last night?” He questions.
A/N: I wanted to get in on this whole @choicesficwriterscreations Kinktober thing. Follows this ficlet
Casey returns home to an unusually quiet condo. She drops her keys into the bowl by the door, making her way further into the space. “Babe?” She calls out, wondering if maybe Bryce got called in to work.
She makes her way to their bedroom, freezing and then bursting into laughter when she spots Bryce from the doorframe.
He grins, allowing the rose that had been between his teeth to fall to the floor. The floor, and the bed, are covered in scattered rose petals. The room is illuminated by candles Bryce must have gone out to buy, because there’s no way they had that many tea candles in the house. He’s in black silk boxer briefs she’s never seen before, casually lounging with his muscular arms spread on top of their headboard. He looks incredible. But, not incredible enough to distract her from the ridiculousness of the situation. “You don’t waste any time, do you?” She quips, setting her purse down on their dresser. She literally just left the gynecologist after having her IUD removed.
Bryce’s grin widens. “Nope. Prepare to be impregnated.”
I feel hot do you feel hot @omgjasminesimone ? I feel bias I want a boy all Bryce a mixture of both their eyes but killer smile like his dad.... Gonna reread again.
“It’s so....quiet.” Bryce complains, flopping down onto the couch. He maneuvers himself so his head rests in Casey’s lap, and she absentmindedly runs her fingers through his hair as she redirects her attention from the TV to her unusually sullen husband.
“I knew you were going to miss her.” Casey teases. After all the fights about SAT prep, college applications, and focusing on school instead of her friends, Bryce swore up and down that he couldn’t wait for Keiki to go to college and finally be out of his hair.
Bryce chuckles, shaking his head. “That was hard to believe when she was storming off and slamming our doors, but I do miss that brat.”
“She’s not far. Brown is just a quick commuter rail trip away.” Casey reminds him.
“Yeah, but it’s different than her being an everyday presence in our lives.” Bryce insists.
“...you call her everyday babe.” Casey retorts.
“And she calls me back, like, once a week.” Bryce complains.
Casey chuckles, massaging his scalp to soothe him. “Probably payback for you never calling from Stanford.”
Bryce pouts. “Low blow, Case.”
Casey shrugs dismissively. “Truth hurts.”
Bryce sighs dramatically. “What are we supposed to do with ourselves until parent’s weekend?”
Casey has a very helpful suggestion. “You could finish your paper on hemicorporectomies.” As much as Bryce harped on Keiki to finish her college essays, his own medical journal article revisions have been unfinished for months now.
“I could do that....” Bryce admits. “But I was thinking something more like, we should have a baby.”
Casey’s eyes had drifted back to the TV, but that jarring statement has her looking back into Bryce’s brown eyes.
“Wait, are you serious?” Of course they’ve talked about kids, but more in a hypothetical, one day far in the future kind of way. After all, Bryce was still finishing his residency, and they had Keiki, and Casey was still getting settled in her role as full attending on the diagnostics team.
But now Bryce has started his new attending position at Mass Kenmore, Keiki is off at Brown University, and Casey is basically running Edenbrook’s diagnostic team with Ethan doing more research work.
“Why not? It would definitely solve the problem of it being too quiet in here. And, just look at us, it’s practically a crime for us to not procreate.” Bryce insists, smiling when Casey laughs.
“Our baby would be smart.” Casey agrees.
“And absolutely beautiful.” Bryce adds.
“You’re so shallow.” Casey teases.
“Please, like you didn’t marry me for my good looks.” Bryce retorts jokingly, taking her hand and placing a kiss to her wrist.
“Wrong. I married you so Keiki and I could officially be sisters.” Casey taunts.
“You’re so mean to me. Maybe I don’t even want you to have my babies.” Bryce teases right back.
“Well, you need to make up your mind soon. My annual gynecologist appointment is next week, so we need to be in consensus on whether or not I’m taking out my IUD.” Casey informs him.
Bryce sits up suddenly, and Casey lets out a surprised yelp when he sweeps her into his lap so she’s straddling him. “Wait, you mean it? You want to do this?” Bryce asks, the hopefulness in his tone making Casey’s heart swell. He’s going to be the best dad.
She loops her arms around his neck, leaning in to give him a passionate open mouthed kiss. “I want to have your babies.”
A/N: This is a follow up to my Let It All Go fic I posted weeks back. Thank you for all of the positive feedback, comments, and requests for a second part! There will be another shorter part following this – I didn’t plan to go beyond 2 parts, but it got a little wordy so I needed to break it up. Thank you to @dcbbw for prereading!
I know you are a huge Bryce fan. BUt I was wondering if you could write a one shot where MC leaves Bryce and marries Ethan. Please. I love your writting.
Thank you for this request Nonny. This was a rough one for me, I do not want to hurt Bryce like this. I don’t know if this is what you had in mind, please keep in mind that I really really love Bryce.
Thanks to @cocomaxley for helping me figure this one out without hurting Bryce too much.
Warnings: Betrayal, Blackmail, evil Ethan.
I do not own any of the characters they all belong to PB. Let me know if you would like to be added to my OH tag list. The tag list will be at the end of the page.

Casey stood in front of the double door in her white dress waiting for the music to start to let her know it’s time to meet her groom at the altar.
“Cas…. It’s time.” Jacky said as she pulled her dress at the back, handing her, her flowers. Jacky was Casey’s maid of honor and excited to have her walk down the aisle to the man she would spend the rest of her life with.
Casey nods as she takes a step towards the door, Jacky walks out first followed by Sienna. As they made it to the front, Casey knew now was her turn. She wasn’t nervous, she actually couldn’t wait to marry the man of her dreams.
“You ready pumpkin.” Her dad asks as he holds out his arm to her. She smiles and takes his arm, just as the doors open.
Casey locks eyes with her groom as she stands ready to walk down the aisle. “I have never been more ready.” They start to walk down the aisle towards her future.
“Bryce, can you stop that?” Casey huffs as she tries to get out of Bryce’s grip, but he holds on to her occasionally trying to tickle her.
“Only when you admit that I was right.” Bryce tickles her again sending her into a giggle fit. She wiggles in his arms as his hold on her tightens. They probably should not be doing this in the on-call room, and she should just give in but she’s a stubborn girl and will not give into Bryce that easily.
“No….. Please…. Stop…… Wait…. Wait…. What if I……” Casey tries to speak between giggles, causing Bryce to burst out laughing. He held her close to him as his lips skimp over her neck before they land on her lips. They jump apart when the door to the on-call room opens.
“Rookie, this is no place for this.” Ethan glares at her. Bryce gets up standing in front of Casey.
“This is my fault and it’s her break. We were only having a discussion.” Bryce brings himself to his full length, this caused him to be just as tall as Ethan. Ethan doesn’t pay attention to Bryce as he looks at Casey who is standing half behind Bryce.
“If I heard correctly she told you to stop. I think that you should take a step away from her before I make you.” Casey’s face pales, she never thought that it would sound that bad. They were just fooling around and now it looks as if Bryce was forcing himself on her. Bryce takes a step back, he knows not to get into it with Ethan.
Ethan nods at them when he opens the door for Casey to follow him. She walks to the door before she turns around and gives Bryce an apologetic look.
“Are you alright? Did he hurt you?” Ethan asked in a soft voice. Casey looks up at him, she needs to tell him.
Casey looks back to the door they just got out of, to see Bryce just walking out. “Dr. Ramsey, he didn’t do anything I didn’t want him to do. I’m sorry it seemed as if he was forcing himself on me. We were only joking around.” Ethan nods in understanding, he leads her to his office as he opens the door for her to enter. As soon as she is inside he closes the door and locks it, he didn’t want anyone to interrupt them not now anyway.
Casey takes a seat in front of his desks, she knows what is about to happen and she is a bit ashamed of herself for the way she has been going on with Bryce.
“Casey…. I think it’s time you start wearing this.” Ethan holds out my engagement ring to me, his voice was calm and full of love if you may call it that. “I know you didn’t want anyone from the hospital to know that we are getting married, but our wedding is only a few months away and I need that scalpel jockey to know his place. He can’t touch you like that anymore. You are soon to be my wife and I don’t like sharing.” Ethan brushes the back of his hand along Casey’s jaw. She smiles as she holds out her hand for Ethan to place the ring on her finger.
“I think it’s time we announce it to our friends, they need to know that we are happy and ready to start our lives together.” Ethan smiles as he pulls her up to stand in between his legs. He never thought he would break his own rules until the day Casey showed up, now here he is about to marry the most amazing woman in the world.
“You don’t know how happy that makes me.” He leans down giving her a sweet kiss. She pulls away looking into his eyes with a sweet smile
She walks towards the door. “We will tell them at dinner. I will see you later.” She blows him a kiss walking out the door without letting him say anything more.
********************
Rafael, Bryce, and Jacky were standing around the kitchen counter waiting for Casey to arrive. Sienna had prepared dinner just like Casey had asked her to.
“What announcement do you think she has for us?” Rafael asked as he plops popcorn into his mouth. Bryce shrugs his shoulders, not sure what is going on. Jacky gave them both an evil smile.
“She’s going to tell us that Bryce’s reverse gear doesn’t work and she’s pregnant with his children. Yes, I said children, cause the way Bryce goes at it, there must be at least six inside her.” Bryce snaps his head towards Jacky as she and Rafael burst out laughing.
“Not funny and I do not pull out. I don’t need to, my girl is safe.” He smirks just thinking of Casey. “But if that is her news I will be happy. In fact, I am going to show you guys something, but you can’t tell her.” Just as Bryce is about to pull something out of his jacket the door opens as Casey and Ethan walk into the room. Bryce's eyes grew wide, not sure what was going on.
“Guys before we sit down for dinner, I have some news.” Casey smiles, but Bryce can see right through it. Casey looks at Ethan for support and he steps up next to her placing his hand around her waist. “Ethan and I are getting married.” Bryce drops the bottle that was in his hand causing it to shatter on the floor. Casey’s eyes met his for a brief moment before she looked down towards the floor. She felt guilty, for not telling him sooner.
Jacky and Rafael stood there shocked before they smiled and congratulated the happy couple. “Have you decided on a date?” Jacky asks as she stands in front of a vibrating Bryce. Just a few minutes ago they were joking about Casey being pregnant with Bryce’s baby if only that was the new everyone would have been happy about it.
“Yes, it will be in three months,” Ethan says proudly, as he holds Casey close to him. Casey doesn’t look up or even share the joy at this moment. She knows she has hurt Bryce, she saw it in his eyes in the brief moment they looked at each other.
Bryce brushes past Jacky towards Casey and Ethan. “Congratulations. I hope you will be very happy. I have to go.” He walked towards the door not even looking back, Casey wanted to go after him. She wanted to explain to him what was going on but Ethan held on to her.

Bryce walked down the hall just having finished with surgery. He hasn’t really talked to Casey since her announcement. He was having a hard time coming to terms with it. She was seeing him, she was sleeping with him every night, how could she be getting married to Ramsey.
As Bryce was walking down the hall he heard voices coming from one of the unused rooms. He steps closer recognizing the one voice as Ethan’s
“I don’t care what you say she will do it. I have her right where I want her and in two months she will be my wife.” Ethan spits out.
“Just make sure she doesn’t go to the board with this. You have more to lose than I have to lose.” The other person speaks up. Bryce couldn’t put his voice to a face. He needed to find out who this person is and what they have against Casey.
“She won’t, she’s aware of what she will lose if she doesn’t go through with the wedding,” Ethan says with a bit of excitement. Bryce clenched his fist at his sides, he needed to help her.
“What about the scalpel jockey?” Bryce took another step closer, he needed to hear what they had to say about him.
“He’s out of her life. I made sure of that. She announced our wedding to her friends and he was there. As far as I know, they haven’t talked to each other since.” Bryce jumps away from the door as he hears one of them walking towards the door. He ducks into one of the rooms near the one they were in. He gasps when he sees who walks out of the room with Ethan.
“That Can’t be….. They hate each other.” Bryce pulls out his phone sending a quick text to Jacky and Rafael. They needed to work fast. They had two months to stop this wedding and get his girl back.
******************
2 Days before the wedding
“Casey…. Are you ready, we need to leave.” Ethan calls out from the living room as he looks at his watch.
“Yes, I’m ready.” She walks out of the bedroom. She has spent the last few days at Ethan’s because he was worried that she would get cold feet.
They walked out of his apartment together and got into his car. The drive to where the wedding was going to be was quiet. Casey didn’t feel like talking all she could think of was that in two days she will be Mrs. Ramsey.
Ethan cleared his throat. “Casey, I know this isn’t how you wanted your wedding to go but just remember that I do love you and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” Ethan reached his hand over resting it on her thigh, she gave him a smile
“I know you do,” Casey says in half a whisper. She didn’t want to get into things, she just wanted to get this over with.
**********************
The morning of the wedding.
Casey stood in the bridal suite looking out over the ocean when Jacky came into the room with a huge grin on her face. She knew something Casey didn’t, but she doesn’t want to give her hope and then they aren’t able to do anything.
“Cas…. It’s time to head down.” Jacky says as she holds the door open.
“Let’s do this then.” Casey picks up the front of her dress and walks towards the area where the ceremony would be held. “Jacky…. Do you know if Bryce is here?” She knows it’s selfish of her to want him there, she would want to watch him marry someone else and she would understand if he wasn’t here to watch her marry someone else.
“Sorry Casey. He is not here. He took an extra shift at the hospital. He can’t do this, he can’t watch you with him.” Jacky pulls her into a hug before they finally make it to the double doors.
Casey walked down the aisle and stood next to Ethan as the officiant leads the ceremony, Ethan held onto her hand as he turned to give her his vows, his vows was sweet and if she cared about him like that she would have loved them, but she felt they were not meant for her, she wasn’t the one that was supposed to stand here today.
It was her turn to give her vows and all she could think off was Bryce. How his hair would fall in his face after a long day at the hospital, how his smile would brighten up the whole room doesn’t matter in what mood you are, how he would always know what to say if she had a bad day. She thought of the first time he told her, he loved her. She was so happy and could not contain her tears, because that was all she wanted to hear.
“Casey…” Ethan squeezed her hand bringing her back to reality.
“Sorry…..” She gives him a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. “Ethan, you are…… Uh Um….. You are…..” She shakes her head trying to come up with words, which she couldn’t form right now.
“Sorry, she’s just nervous.” Ethan leans closer to whisper in her ear. “Even if you have to picture me as Bryce, you better make them all think that we are in love.” She nods as she looks up at him.
“Since the day I met you, you have been special to me. You had my best interests at heart and you wanted to keep me safe. Our relationship grew the more we worked together. I promise to be faithful and supportive of everything you do. I will be there for you through everything for as long as I live.” Casey smiles and turns back to the officiant, there is no way she can pretend that Ethan is Bryce.
“Now if anyone sees a reason why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your……” Before the officiant could say anything more the doors opened with Bryce rushing in.
“Stop…. Casey, you don’t have to marry him to save me. Baby, I know you love me and I want to be the one that calls you my wife. There is no way that I am letting Ethan and Declan take you away from me. I love you so much it hurts, I can not function without you.” Bryce keeps on talking as he walks closer to Casey, who by now has tears streaming down her face. “Baby, they can’t hurt you or me anymore. I have already sent the information to the board and the police.” Bryce turns towards Ethan. “You and Declan are screwed. You blackmailed Casey to marry you after she found out about your illegal drug testing. Tell me Ethan how many patients have you lost in the last six months?”
“You better leave…. You are lying. Casey loves me and wants to marry me.” Ethan spits out moving closer to Bryce.
“Casey the police are on their way. I know he told you that he was going to have your medical license taken away for what happened when you were an intern and that he told you he was going to have me removed from the hospital. But baby he can’t do anything to you.” Casey looks between Bryce and Ethan before she pulls her hand out of Ethan’s before he could do anything. She runs into Bryce’s arms as he wraps them around her. “I’ve got you….” He whispers into her hair.
Ethan was about to charge at them when the police came rushing into the hall telling Ethan and Declan to put their hands up.
It turns out that Declan had been paying Ethan to test drugs to keep patients longer in the hospital, meaning more money for Ethan and Declan.

Present
Casey finally makes it to the altar, her father shakes Bryce’s hand before he kisses Casey’s cheek. “He’s a lucky man”
Bryce stood there holding her hand, she was the most beautiful bride he has ever seen. There was no one else for him and to think he almost lost her to Ethan.
“I love you….” Bryce smiles before the officiant starts the ceremony. He was finally going to be able to call her his wife.
Cadence isn’t at her apartment, so there’s only one other place Raleigh can think to look.
He slams the limo door shut, stopping the incessant flashing from the paparazzi cameras that mobbed him on his way out of Cadence’s building. The paps are truly vultures, and Raleigh is definitely easy prey at the moment.
“Trey, take me to Overknight Records.” Raleigh orders his driver, slumping back in his seat as Trey peels off the curb and enters midday Manhattan bumper to bumper traffic.
Raleigh tries to call Cadence, again, but his call goes straight to voicemail for the 15th time today. He sighs, running a frustrated hand through his hair. She must be pissed. After all, that attention seeking Gia Marie is telling all the media outlets their sex tape is from two weeks ago, when it’s really from about two years ago, long before Raleigh even met Cadence.
After Kyra’s failed surgery, everything in Bryce’s life starts to fall apart. Maybe that’s only fair. After all, the risky surgery he talked her into ended Kyra’s life. It’s poetically fitting that the amazing life Bryce was enjoying ended too.
Bryce blames himself. Since he came up with the idea, Dr. Benson let the confident surgical resident take the lead. Of course, when things got bad the much more experienced surgeon pushed Bryce to the side and took over. But by then, even Dr. Benson couldn’t save her. Bryce can’t stop hearing that loud beep from the heart monitor as Kyra flatlined. He also can’t forget the horrified look in Casey’s eyes when he met her gaze from the operating theater.
This is so sad... Like I get sad but this is sad sad.. also angry sad like I want to slap him, hug him really tight and tell him to cry.... Wow @omgjasminesimone I want to give him a hug
For MC day of @rodappreciationweek, an MC focused epilogue to my story Juvenile Delinquents, where Logan and Ellie give their daughter up for adoption.
Ellie’s half hearted watching of a documentary is interrupted by her ringing phone. Ellie glances at the phone as it vibrates on her coffee table. She doesn’t recognize the number, but it’s an LA area code.
She hesitantly picks up. “Hello?”
“Ellie Wheeler?” The caller asks.
“…who is this?” Ellie counters. She doesn’t use that name anymore. Not since an ex at Langston who’d she’d confided in hacked her juvenile criminal record and publically released it after their messy break up.
“Oh, right. What did the investigator say… Elle Gordon was it now?” The caller continues.
Ellie frowns, turning off the tv. “Again, who is this?”
“Oh I’m sorry. I’m going about this all wrong. It’s Chet, Chet Johnson?” He says, as if she might have forgotten. As if choosing him and his husband to raise her and Logan’s daughter might have slipped her mind.
@omgjasminesimone this is so so so sweet... I teared up to at the end when they pulled away.... I was like Logan grab her let's get outta here.... I love this.... (Mischievous smile) do I sense baby #2 😁😁😁😁😁
In the midst of a passionate afternoon on call room hookup, Casey suddenly breaks away from Bryce’s eager lips.
“.....are you giving me a breast exam right now?” Casey asks incredulously, and Bryce’s fingers stop pointedly pressing around her nipple.
He offers a sheepish grin. “Sorry, my last surgery was a mastectomy so I’ve got breast cancer on the mind. Just wanted to make sure you were good.”
He tries to go back to kissing her then, but she stops him with a hand to his chest. “Well?”
“Well what beautiful?”
“Am I good?” Casey clarifies.
Bryce smiles, dipping his head to kiss her some more. “You’re perfect Casey.”
Rafael x MC
Rafael and Casey are making their way down the steps to their seats in TD Garden when Casey falls.
Maybe she shouldn’t have worn wedges to a Celtics game. Although she goes down hard, Casey’s pride is more wounded than her body.
But try telling Rafael that. He’s immediately in full Paramedic mode, crouching beside her prone form and examining her head, which she managed to hit on the step. His big brown eyes are full of worry. It would be cute if Casey wasn’t already so mortified.
“Are you okay Casey? Do you know where you are?”
“I don’t have a concussion Raf.” Casey assures, attempting to get back up.
Rafael cautiously helps her upright. “Are you sure? That was a really bad fall.”
“Oh, I’m very aware. I just hope they didn’t get it on the Jumbotron.” She loops her arms around Rafael’s neck. “If I’m on the Jumbotron, I want it to be for the kiss cam.”
A/N: I thought of this idea at the gala chapter, but I wanted to see Sam’s reaction in the chapter afterward before moving forward with it. I want MC to have the option to quit. I want Sam to stop being selfish and have to actually work to earn her back, but we know PB would never. I like Sam, and I like the potential of what their relationship could be if he would actually pull his head out of his ass and stop planning family vacations instead. So that’s what this is, lol.
A/N 2: Mostly canon up until the end. Thanks to @dcbbw for prereading!
Casey and Bryce settle into the back of the ambulance as they prepare to leave West Mass General, the cooler containing the organ donor’s heart resting on Bryce’s lap.
There’s somewhat of a heavy silence between the two doctors and the official Edenbrook driver, Maurice. The donor was a young man, left brain dead after an attempted suicide. A sad story that’s weighing on everyone, despite the bright side of another family being given a second chance due to the now late Mr. Jones’ unfortunate circumstances. Bryce takes it upon himself to try to lighten the mood as they get back on the road. “Hey Dr. Valentine.” When she looks at him, he holds out the cooler. “Here. I’m literally giving you my heart.” Bryce offers with a warm smile.
Casey rolls her eyes, but she can’t hide that his quip did lift her spirits a little based on her own small smile. “Please try to take this seriously Dr. Lahela. Donor organ transportation is very serious business. And definitely be careful when you’re assisting Dr. Emery with the transplant. Jason is one of my favorite patients. He’s funny, kind, a family man, and he never screams at me when I need more blood work, so I really want him to make it through surgery.” She retorts.
“Well, thank God you told me. I was planning to be completely reckless and attempt the transplant blindfolded, but now, I’ll be careful. Just for you babe.” He counters with a teasing grin.
Wow.... My baby is all banged up.... Beauty abt it is HE'S ALIVE😁😁😁. Sad about Maurice truly sad.... @omgjasminesimone awesome writing and thank you...
A/N: I’m replaying Nightbound, which is a book I never wrote anything for even though I really liked it. So here’s a Cal x MC ficlet for the @choicesmonthlychallenge August Day 1 prompt, question.
...
“Cal?” Alex murmurs, gently playing with the ends of his dark hair as the new couple lies in bed.
“Hmm?” He acknowledges, hugging her tighter against his bare chest. He shifts forward a little in an attempt to escape the sunlight seeping through his blinds.
“I have a question.” Alex continues.
“Ok.” Cal responds, prompting her to continue.
“....it might be a little premature.” Alex acknowledges.
“What do you want to know my chérie? I’m an open book.” Cal insists.
“If we end up getting married, and having kids...” Alex starts. She blushes a little when Cal pulls back a little so he can look at her, but continues with her question. “Would they be werewolves?”
Cal pauses to think on it. “You know, I’m not sure. My guess would be yes, but I don’t think anyone in the pack has ever married or had kids with a non wolf. The pack....it tends to be a close knit group.” Cal admits.
“...is it a big deal that you’re dating outside of the pack?” Alex doesn’t want to be the cause of any problems for him. She knows how hard being the Alpha is on her sweet, caring, sensitive boyfriend.
“If anyone has a problem with us, they can take it up with me. But it wouldn’t change my mind about you Alex. I’ve never wanted anything the way I want you. I love you.” Cal assures.
“I love you too.” Alex easily returns, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. “I wouldn’t have stayed in New Orleans for just anybody you know. I see a future with you. Maybe even one with little half wolf pups running around.”
Cal grins, tugging her close and kissing her passionately. “You think you can handle that? A house full of werewolves?” He murmurs against her lips when he pulls away just barely.
“I can handle it, if they turn out to be anything like you.” She presses a kiss to the bridge of his nose. “But if they end up being rebellious like I was? Coupled with half werewolf powers? We’ll be in trouble.”
Cal laughs, rolling on top of her. His eyes transform to that familiar golden hue as his canines descend. He drags the sharpened points down her delicate throat, careful not to pierce the skin. “We could handle it. I can handle anything with you by my side Alex.”
Sam’s fist slams loudly against her locked door. “Open the door Anna, I know you’re in there.” He growls impatiently when she doesn’t immediately appear. He gives her a few seconds to respond, and then the loud knocking continues.
Anna winces, if he keeps that up, he’s definitely going to wake up the boys. And she just got them down. Reluctantly, she opens the door. She remains in the doorway, not inviting him in. “What?”
Sam’s eyes narrow. “What?!” He repeats incredulously. “I got your two weeks notice. You really couldn’t tell me to my face?!”
Okay, so maybe emailing her two weeks notice was not the most professional thing she’s ever done. But at the same time, it’s not like that’s the most unprofessional thing she’s done while employed by Sam Dalton.
“Sam, I’ve been trying to quit to your face for weeks. And you don’t want to hear it. It’s always, ‘No Anna, the boys love you.’ Or ‘Don’t do this Anna, I promise I’m going to fix this.’ Or ‘Please Anna, I need you.’ And then we have sex. And nothing changes. And I can t keep doing this with you. I’m done Sam.” Anna insists.
“Anna, I understand you’re frustrated. I’m frustrated too. But I can’t just walk away from my engagement. I have to handle this delicately.”
“The only thing you seem to be handling is me, Sam. And I’m done believing all your lies. Tell me this, did I ever mean anything to you?! Or was it always just about the sex?”
Sam looks stunned. “How can you even ask me that, Anna? You know how I feel about you.” He reaches for her, and she recoils. She might as well have slapped him.
“The only thing I know is that you’re bad for me. You make me feel disposable, worthless. And as much as I’ll miss Mickey and Mason,” ‘and you’, she thinks but refuses to verbalize, “I need to get away from you.” She concludes.
“Anna, it was never my intention to make you feel that way. I...I love you, Anna. Please, don’t do this.” Sam begs.
He reaches for her again, and with her defenses down because he just used the L word for the first time, he’s able to pull her into his strong arms.
His lips find her’s, and she hates him, and herself, a little more when she can’t help but kiss him back.
She doesn’t try to stop him when he walks her backwards to her bed, and she doesn’t try to stop him from pulling off her pajamas.
“I love you.” He keeps repeating as he makes love to her.
A/N: Conclusion to the Roommates Universe, follows Sleepovers
Bryce yawns, rolling over towards the faint light emanating from Casey’s phone. He loosely wraps an arm around her, pressing a soft kiss to the back of her shoulder. “What are you doing?” He murmurs sleepily. Knowing her, he doubts she’s scrolling Pictagram at 3:30 in the morning.
“Reading up on Familial Fatal Insomnia. It’s truly a terrible disease.” Casey informs him, putting her phone to sleep before setting it down on their bedside table. She rolls over to face him, arms loosely looping around his neck. “Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.” She apologizes.
Bryce shrugs, smiling softly at her. “Now that we’re sharing a room, I’m learning all your bad habits Dr. Valentine.” He teases.
“Well, too late to change your mind on cohabitation now. It doesn’t seem like Aurora has any plans to move out of your old room.” Casey quips.
“Change my mind? No way you’re getting rid of me that easily Case. It would take way more than your insomniac cell phone habits.”
Casey smiles, nuzzling her face into his neck. “Yeah?”
“Yeah, obviously. You really made me work for this. Anyone else, I might have given up. But I really like you, so I was determined to get that boyfriend label.” Bryce insists.
“I didn’t make you work that hard.” Casey argues. Bryce gives her a deadpan look. “Okay, maybe I was a little difficult.” She admits.
“Very difficult. But...” he pauses to tuck an unruly curl behind her ear. “You’re very worth it gorgeous.”
Casey smiles. Bryce can be so sweet when he wants to be. She’s very grateful he wouldn’t let her sabotage their budding romance. Bryce Lahela is the best boyfriend she’s ever had.
“I love you.” Casey promises, tugging him forward to bring his lips to her’s. The kiss starts off sweet, but quickly becomes heated.
Bryce is the one to pull away several long moments later. “I love you too. But I’ve got an early surgery in the morning. So I’m going to need you to stop kissing me like that, because I need to sleep.”
Casey laughs before she gives him one more kiss, chaste this time. She makes herself comfortable cuddled up against his chest. “Goodnight Bryce.”
Bryce gently pushes up the sleeves of Kehlani’s shirt, washing her tiny hands and forearms in an attempt to make his baby compliant with surgical scrub in procedures.
Kehlani babbles happily, kicking her chubby little legs in excitement. Bryce smiles, ducking his head forward to press a kiss atop her dark curls before he scrubs in himself, rubbing his own forearms much more rigorously than he’d just done with his daughter.
He steps away from the sink, turning to smile at the surgical nurse on his service. “Ready to save a life Sarah?”
Before Sarah can respond, Dr. Harper Emery strides into the room. She takes in the sight in front of her. Dr. Bryce Lahela, completely scrubbed in for surgery, surgical mask and all, with Kehlani strapped to his chest in a front facing baby carrier.
The baby offers her a toothless grin, and Harper can’t help but momentarily grin back. Kehlani is so damn cute, a perfect blend of Bryce and Casey. Harper has schooled her expression back into her patented intimidating deadpan before she returns her attention to Bryce. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“What? It’s bring your child to work day!” Bryce counters emphatically. He’s been excitedly anticipating this day for months.
“Dr. Lahela, take you child to work day is for children old enough to be considering their future career prospects.” Harper retorts. “And furthermore, they do not enter active operating rooms.”
“I’ve got to start her early if I want Kehlani to be a surgeon. Her mother, god mother, and honorary aunts and uncle are all in internal medicine. This is an uphill battle, Dr. Emery.” Bryce insists.
“…you can’t be serious. You’re planning to cut open a patient with your baby strapped to your chest? What if she starts crying?” Harper continues her objections.
“Kehlani is a really good baby, the best baby. She only cries when she’s hungry, or needs to be changed, and she’s been fed, burped, and put in a fresh diaper so she’s ready to go.” Bryce explains.
“You don’t think blood is going to make her cry?” Harper asks, how very much she doubts that evident by her tone.
“Nope! We’ve been watching video of my past surgeries all month to prepare.” Bryce counters proudly.
“…..does your wife know all this?” Harper pulls her trump card.
“….please don’t tell her.” Bryce concedes.
“Hand over the baby and I think I can keep this quiet.” Harper negotiates.
Bryce sighs dramatically. “Fine,” he holds up his hands, “can you grab her? I’m already scrubbed in.”
Harper un-clips the carrier, holding Kehlani to her chest. “Good luck with your surgery.”
“It’s just an appendectomy. I could do this blindfolded with one arm tied behind my back, with my baby strapped to my chest.” Bryce insists. “Plus, the patient said it was okay.” He continues to argue his point.
“No Dr. Lahela.” Harper says, turning away and heading out the door towards the daycare center. As soon as she’s out the door, she runs into Dr. Casey Valentine-Lahela.
Casey looks from the door, to Harper, Kehlani, and the baby carrier, and quickly seems to put things together. Her eyes narrow. “He’s in so much trouble when we get home.”
”Gwen, come on Gwen please open up, look I’m sorry.” His fist rested on the door deciding whether to pound on it or not. He could demand to be let in, after all, it was his place. “You’re a dumbass.” Zig chuckled under his breath pushing off against the wall, he had no intention of leaving Chris alone with Gwenevere again. “What was that?” Everyone had already filed out everyone but apparently Zig. “You heard me. You really think she wants to hear anything from you.” Zig shook his head smirking. He had known that look, he had been on the receiving end of that look before and he knew just how to calm her down and when it would simmer. “If you keep talking to that door she’ll rip it off just to come out here and yell at ya. Then your looking at maybe a week of the silent treatment, plus snarky comments and with access to your place, god knows what else.” Zig quickly covered his mouth covering up the laughter that beckoned out of him. “Wait, why am I telling you? You’ve fucked her so obviously you must know her. It’s not like your a dipstick that goes around sleeping with his friends girlfriends you barely know.” He didn’t want to tell Zig for this exact reason, and now he was stuck out in the hallway with Zig and his mouth. “I don’t know what you want me to tell you, that I’m sorry, cause I’m not. As terrible as it may sound, I’m not, in fact, if I could do this all over again I would. You’re not the only one who cares about her.”
@littlegreenmoo I've so missed this story.... Who will she choose? Will the pregnancy be full term... How will Chris cope? How will she deal with Zig's son? So many questions....
BTW how have you been?
