Hiyaa!! I wanna start off by saying I absolutely love your Jason fics, the way you write him is quite literally *chef's kiss*. I'm, personally, a sucker for the Jason Todd has a secret life trope; like a whole life nobody in his family knowd about, he has a wife, an actual job, a group of friends, he's a beloved member of his community, and, maybe, even has a kid that nobody knows about in the Wayne family. I was wondering if you could write something using that trope? Your writing is so beautiful and the fluff is literally cotton candy. π«ΆπΌπ«ΆπΌ

to his family, jason was inherently anti-social. outside of patrols he remained distant and withdrawn from his family members, he spent weekends alone and skipped family dinners on weekdays. it wasn't out of distrust or anything, but at the manor he was jason todd, the second robin, a walking tragedy who only recieved glances full of sorrow and grief. but when he went home to you everything changed.
at home with you he had freedom to be normal, to live a life that was once ripped away from him. marrying you was the best decision he'd ever made - before you days blurred together, no other day stood out from the last. nothing was worth remembering. not until you came into the picture, suddenly days became a lot more vibrant. he hadn't ever considered having a child before you either, deciding that his life was much too tumultuous to even entertain it.
he'd seen what a life like his own did to people; it hardened people for wars they shouldn't have to fight and it made them forget what tenderness was. he was lucky to have found it in you, but now that he had it back he wouldn't let it go so easily. so he didn't tell anyone about you, nobody ever asked him where he disappeared to on the weekends so he never told them.
maybe it was the days he spent volunteering at the library, or how the neighbourhood children would run up to him and cling off his arms but he found himself wanting a child of his own. just for a moment he considered it, that he could be a good father - he could give his kid a better life than his own, he'd make sure they got to have their childhood, a real one.
slowly but surely, he drifted away from all the violence of patrols and instead spent his time curled up beside you and, a few years later, your three year old daughter, catherine; he had found that his heavy hands made great crayon canvases and gave even better hugs when the monster under the bed decided to appear.
now, he came back home to walls dotted in waxy red crayons and the sound of your daughters squealing. he kept your pocket-sized family in a little velvet box next to his heart, his soft escape from the rest of the world. when he came home to you he was just mr. todd who lived down the street with his little family, mr. todd who read fairytales to his daughter every night and taught athletics after school whenever coach was too busy.
dick had watched as jason lifted a plate of cookies, ever since alfred had given him a few to take home it had become routine for him to take them home. unbeknowst to dick, he brought them home for you and your daughter - the two of you were hooked from first bite, now you insisted that he made them better.
βyou're not staying for dinner tomorrow?β dick asked, though he didn't need an answer - jason rarely stayed over for family dinners, or anything outside of patrol.
βcan't, i've got plans.β jason responded gruffly.
βyou always have plans.β dick remarked, his tone growing more and more doubtful.
βand?β he grumbled, meeting dick's gaze and raising a brow.
βwhat are they?β the last thing jason needed was his older brother prodding at his home life, let alone getting involved with his small family.
βnot anything special.β his plans were to come back home to you, and of course they were special - special enough that he wouldn't risk getting you involved with the wayne family at all, he wasn't ready to do that just yet.
besides he already spent an excessive amount of time separated from you between working a full-time job and going on patrols, so he intended to make the most of the days when patrol ended a little earlier and he got a few more moments with you.
jason undid the latch with a quiet click, letting the door close behind him as he kicked off his boots - like music, playground laughter echoed from the living room bouncing of the walls all around the house. the thermostat might've been off, but the house remained warmed with the comfort of home and of the two of you.
he slipped into the living room as quietly as he could, though his plans were foiled when the soft thumps of your daughters footsteps came at him full speed with you following close behind, a smile falling onto his face in the same speedy manner. he caught her just before she could turn into a corner, not without stumbling back with all the grace of a falling tree.
βyou're home early.β you breathed, stopping to catch your breath when jason finally caught her.
βi promised i'd read cathy to sleep.β he hummed, pecking your lips before tickling cathy's sides, it was definitely past her bedtime and, telling from the cheeky smile on her face, she seemed to know this very well. βyou causing trouble again, princess?β
cathy looked up at him with a bright grin, and you, on the other hand, looked understandably exhausted to say the least, trying to wrangle an overly energetic three year old into her pyjamas was not a job for the weak.
βshe insists you read to her before she sleeps.β you sighed, though it was hard not to smile at the sight. it never ceased to amaze you, the way jason had softened completely for your daughter - from the moment her tiny fingers had crept up and curled around his, you knew she had him wrapped right around her little fingers.
βitβs good thing i brought cookies then, isn't it?β he huffed a smile, sending her up in the air with a gentle push leaving cathy in a fit of giggles and nods.
βi want the story about the boy with the red hood.β she demanded, and jason delivered.
βanything you say, princess.β he pinching her cheek affectionately.
soon enough only cookie crumbs remained on the plate, and cathy was tucked into her small bed snuggly with the covers up to her chin and was beginning to drift off to sleep. βdid he go back home?β she muttered slurred, a little yawn escaping her lips.
βno, he did something even better - he made his own home.β jason had made his own home, with you he learnt home wasn't a barren 'safe' house or shabby motels, but home was the way toys laid scattered and discarded around the house, home was in the nights the three of you spent dancing in the kitchen together and home was when he walked down the streets and he got to be mr. todd - he wasn't met with the eyes of thugs running in terror anymore, but bright smiles and kind words.
βi like good endings.β cathy gave a tired grin, βg'night, daddy.β she yawned.
βgoodnight, princess.β he spoke soft, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead, about to get up and close the door. planks of wood groaned behind him, and you snuck yourself right beside him on the edge of her bed. βyou're a good dad, jay.β you echoed something he couldn't believe himself sometimes.
βyou think so?β jason hummed, an arm wrapping around your waist. whenever there were moments like these, he wished he could put the whole world on mute - sometimes the world got too loud and he got too caught up in all the noise so much so that he forgot what was important, you.
βmhm, you're her hero.β you nodded, leaning into his shoulder. it was impossible to say otherwise about him. nobody else stepped up the way he did, he never missed a single performance, he was always volunteering at her school whenever he could and now he was reading her to sleep.
βyou tired?β he asked.
βa little, but i can stay up a bit longer.β you spoke with a yawn following shortly after, sleep ebbing at your consciousness. βshe's getting curious.β you added, nodding over to cathy.
whenever cathy asked you about her dad's family, you hadnβt really known what to say. sheβd only ever met your side of the family, and never jasonβs, out of fear sheβd be set at risk - it made sense, but part of you wished she got to meet them for her own sake.
βi know, i know.β jason relented, attempting to feign indifference. he knew he couldn't keep the two of you a secret, but just for now he wanted to make the most of having the two of you to himself no matter how selfish that might've seemed.
he quickly noticed your response, or lack thereof, gaze flitting towards you when he felt you slump against his shoulder fast asleep. the rest of his family was tomorrow's problem because, looking between you and cathy, he couldn't help but think all he needed was right here.
