Lord Ganesha

Lord Ganesh is a Hindu god; he is the son of Shiva and Parvati. One can recognize him by his elephant head. He is the lord of obstacles and the god of intelligence and knowledge. He had a brother named Skanda, and his transport is a mouse called Krauncha.

Here is a story of how Ganesh acquired his elephant head.

One day, Shiva’s wife Parvati took a bath. She had Ganesh guard the door and not allow anyone inside. Shiva came home and Ganesh would not allow Shiva to see Parvati, under her orders. So, Shiva cut off Ganesh’s, his own son’s, head. When Parvati discovered this she got horribly angry and replaced Ganesh’s head with an elephant’s head, reviving him.
