If Calvin was a human...

If Calvin was a human, he would live in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. ( US Virgin Islands) He would work as a concierge at Windward Passage hotel in the city of Charlotte Amalie.  He would be a concierge because he is very friendly and welcoming. He would have an apartment overlooking the sea with a deck and pool. Calvin would have a feline girlfriend named Athena, who is in love with him. They would also have a pet, male bunny named Speedy.

Pad see you

You will need:

1 pound of rice noodles

Broccoli

1 egg

1 tsp. Vinegar

1 tbsp. Sugar

1 tbsp. Soy sauce

1 tbsp. Oyster Sauce

2 tbsp. Black sweet soy sauce

2 tbsp. Vegetable oil

  Instructions

 Soak the rice noodles until they are soft. Be extra careful because they can fall apart very easily.

 Put 2 tbsp. of vegetable oil in the pan and turn it on medium heat. Wait until the pan is hot and then saute the rice noodles.

 Add 2 tbsp. of black sweet soy sauce; coat the noodles in this mix and then set them aside.

 Steam the broccoli for a little bit.

 Put a little bit of oil in a pan, add one egg, and stir until thickened.

Put the noodles back into the pan and add 1 tbsp. of sugar, soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Now add a teaspoon of vinegar.

 Add the broccoli in, then mix all the ingredients together.

 Enjoy!

"The Birth of the Rose" is about a king of the gods named Suthep, who is unmarried. He usually has no love for any of the goddesses, but something extraordinary happens: he falls in love with a goddess named Madhana. He tries to make her love him, but she has no interest. He learns from Mayavin, his magician, that she was the daughter of his enemy in their past lives. Mayavin offers to help him by casting a spell on Madhana in order to make her love him for just a short while.  He summons Madhana to his palace and declares his love for her, but she says, "NO!" Suthep angrily tells her that she must leave heaven and will be banished down to Earth. Before leaving, she requests to be reborn as a rose, a perrenial flower.

Temples of Southeast Asia

There are different temples in Southeast Asia, such as the Angkor Wat. The Angkor Wat was a Hindu temple, but is now used by followers of the Buddhist religion. There are also stupas in Southeast Asia, which are big Buddhist places of meditation that may hold remains of Buddhist monks.

Medieval Castles

At first, medieval castles were built out of mud and wood, but then people discovered that the wood could burn down. In 1100 CE, people converted to building them out of stone.  Castles were built on top of hills because they could see farther away and throw objects at attackers. Also, there was a drawbridge and a moat. Inside the castle there was a Keep, which was a place to store food, and barracks, which housed the knights and soldiers who protected the noble and his land. Another place is the great hall, a place to feast and meet the noble on regular days, and the chapel, a place to hold religious festivals and ceremonies.

Japanese Information Center Event

  On January 18th, I went to a Japanese event at the Japanese Information Center. There were three activities; one of them was a Japanese game, Karuta (かるた), where one person would read a sentence (in Japanese) and then the other players had to find the first hiragana (ひらがな) character in that sentence from a stack of cards laid out on the table. The second activity was where one could do origami, a Japanese style of paper-folding. The third activity was to practice writing Japanese calligraphy. One could write any Japanese kanji, such as inu(犬), which means “dog”. There were also had food, drinks, and desserts to try! I tried chow-mein, and although it is a Chinese noodle dish it was extremely delicious!

  There were lots of photo op boards, where one could stick head into a hole in the image and friends and family could take one’s photo!

Philopele

My mythological creature’s name is Philopele. She has the head of a cat (Sweet Stripes), body of a horse, legs of an elephant, wings of a Rainbow Lorikeet, and a tail of a mermaid. She eats trash at night from Chicago trash bins; she tries to help the garbage collectors so they don’t have to pick up as much trash in the morning. Philopele is very benevolent. Her special powers include the ability to see in the dark, capable of flight, and she is an excellent swimmer. She is also very loyal and strong. Philopele only likes me, my family, my animals, and my stuffed animals. She is usually very private about things. She lives in mythological creature land. She is 24 years old.

Harlem Globetrotters

On January 4th, 2014, I went to see The Harlem Globetrotters in Hammond, Indiana. They won against the World All-Stars, their rival team, and have not lost since March 31st, 2006. Their mascot is Globie, who has been their mascot since 1993. From 1926 to 1927, they were called, “The Chicago Globetrotters”. From 1928 to 1929, however, they were called, “The New York Harlem Globetrotters”. From 1929 onwards, they have been called, “The Harlem Globetrotters.”

When I saw the game it was extremely funny because during the game, the referee would tell the one of the players on previously mentioned team that he couldn’t do something, such as standing on top of the basket. However, while the referee was explaining this, the rest of the Globetrotters would be standing on the other basket without the referee noticing! Another thing that was funny was when they turned on music, the players on The Harlem Globetrotters would start dancing, even in the middle of the game!

One should attend a Harlem Globetrotters game because it is extremely hilarious!

Symphony Jackson

Symphony Jackson is a cat that lived at Tree House, an animal shelter in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. She is 2-years-old and although she has been become more social recently, she is still a little shy. She only has one green eye but it is very beautiful. She was just adopted a few days ago and is living happily in her new home with other cats!

Women of Ancient Greece

 Women in ancient Sparta learned how to wrestle, while women in ancient Athens would weave beautiful cloth. Also, in ancient Sparta, women had to give up their son when he was seven-years-old because they had to join the military. In ancient Athens, however, women did not have to do that. Although they were very different, they worshiped the same gods and goddesses, such as Hera, Demeter, and Artemis.

Zeus and Jupiter

Zeus and Jupiter are both the gods of the sky and king of all gods. Both of them are symbolized by a thunderbolt. Zeus had many children and wives unlike Jupiter, who had three children and one wife. Zeus had five siblings as opposed to Jupiter, who had two.

Ornate Lorikeets are a type of bird. They live on Sulawesi, Togian, Peleng, Banggai and Tukangbesi Islands, Indonesia.The Ornate Lorikeet eats nectar, pollen, and fruits. Sometimes their location changes because of food availability. Its habitat is at the edge of a forest, in upland valleys, and near towns. There are about 50,000 in the world. They are usually seen in pairs or small groups, sometimes interacting with Yellow and Green Lorikeets.
