"You and me, always forever."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s now been almost two weeks since Eugene and Pugsley started acting as a couple. They haven’t told any of their friends yet, unsure of how they would react. They also couldn’t really pinpoint what they are.
At lunch, Pugsley would now sit with Eugenes friends Bianca Barclay, Enid, Bruno and Ajax. He didn’t feel alone anymore. Around their friends they acted normal or sometimes their hands would occasionally brush against each other’s.
When they were alone, they would just cuddle or awkwardly hug each other and maybe steal a small kiss or two.
As always, Eugene would rant about bees and Pugsley would just listen and observe every inch of his face as if he’s the only thing existing in his world.
Sometimes, they would go check on their pet Zombie, Slurp, together. Eugene still didn’t quite approve of Pugsleys idea of keeping a Zombie in the shed next to his bee stocks, but since he wanted Pugsley to be happy (and not throw a tantrum) , he accepted it.
He could swear Slurp had something against him but couldn’t prove it. Pugsley thought the Zombie was the coolest thing in the world, while Eugene thought that it was gross. But the fact that Pugsley wasn’t afraid of anything and even found pain cool, is what made him the coolest person in Eugenes eyes.
Right now, they were walking around in the forest after their daily classes had just ended. Eugene still wasn’t really comfortable going to a forest after the thing with the Hyde happened and seemed restless most of the time.
Pugsley noticed that of course and reached his hand out to intertwine his fingers with Eugene‘s.
Eugene stiffened slightly at the sudden contact but his expression softened almost immediately. As they walked through the forest, hand in hand, Pugsley decided to start a conversation.
"So uhm.. should we.. you know.. tell our friends?" He stammered out, looking at the ground.
"Uh.. I don’t know. What if they don’t accept us?" Eugene answered, nervously biting his bottom lip.
"Oh please, we barely know what we are ourselves so I‘m sure it won’t be that bad." Pugsley retorted, trying to reassure him and also himself. Eugene just shrugged his shoulders slightly, still unsure. "Hm, you’re probably right..“
They made their way back to school, looking for their friends. As their friends turned around to face them, Enid‘s eyebrow furrowed. "Why were you two holding hands just now? Is there something I don’t know? Come onnn I wanna know!!" She whined, still confused but also curious.
"Oh, it’s not what you think, he just got scared that the Hyde will show up again so I held his hand.. yeah.." Pugsley replied, trying not to raise any more suspicions.
"If you say so." She said with a knowing grin.
Eugene and Pugsley walked back to their dorm room. This time they weren’t holding hands, worried about getting caught. "That was so close.." Eugene exclaimed.
Pugsley entered their room, waiting for Eugene to come along too, raising an eyebrow when he didn’t do so. "What’s wrong?"
Eugene fidgeted with the sleeve of his uniform, sighing silently. "Actually, I agreed to study with Enid today.. so yeah, I‘ll be back later." He then turned on his heel starting to walk away.
"But-" Pugsley tried to stop him but he was already out of earshot.
Eugene stood in front of Enid’s and Wednesday‘s dorm room and knocked on the door gently. Enid opened the door, smiling at him. "Come in!" She squealed and then grabbed his wrist to pull him along.
"So, what subject did you want to study for?" Eugene asked, shifting awkwardly in his place. Enid sat down down on the bed and pulled him down to sit next to her. "Study? You really thought I was calling you over for studying??"
"For what did you call me over then?" Eugene questioned, a confused look on his face.
"Gossip! So tell me… what‘s going on between you and Pugsley hmm? I want every detail!" Enid commented excitedly. "What?? There’s nothing between me and Pugsley."
"You can’t fool me, I‘m not blind!" Enid spared him another knowing look. "Ugh fine, if you insist."
"So two weeks ago, he kind of confessed his feelings for me.. and asked if I wanted to be his boyfriend. And I kind of said yes.. and we kind of kissed.." Eugene answered, radiantly avoiding eye contact with Enid.
Enid gasped, her jaw dropping. She was silent for a moment before squeaking "Oh. My. God. Are you serious? Why didn’t you tell me? That’s amazing I‘m so happy for you!!"
"We were worried our friends would be grossed out.." He admitted, still not meeting her gaze.
"Does Wednesday know?" Enid asked softly.
"Oh hell no, she would skin me and then burn me and then she’d write a novel about it!" Eugene answered, exaggerating but also not.
Enid continued questioning him about his relationship with Pugsley, really invested in the topic. Eugene felt a pang of relief finally being able to tell someone about his feelings aside from Pugsley. Sun started to set and he decided to head back to his shared dorm room.
The door creaked open and he entered, finding Pugsley sitting on his bed, his nose in a book about torture methods. Of course he would read such a book. "Hey Pugs.." he started.. " I uhm.. I told Enid about us.."
"Really? What‘d she say??" Pugsley replied, looking up from his book. "She said she’s happy for us."
"Told ya! I told you no one would judge us. And now come here and hug me, I missed you while you were gone." Pugsley said, opening his arms slightly, inviting Eugene for a hug.
Reluctantly Eugene made his way over to the bed Pugsley was sitting on, wrapping his arms around him. Pugsley decided to tease him a little and pressed a small kiss to his cheek.
A faint blush appeared on Eugenes cheeks. He stayed quiet, just enjoying the moment as Pugsley continued to press soft kisses to his cheek, neck and forehead. "I like you very much, Eugene."
"I like you too Pugsley, love even."
