wholesome nsfw is best nsfw and nuts and dolts/frosen steel are kinda perfect for it

Exactly! There’s so much wholesome potential for nsfw stories involving Penny and yet I never feel I can find any stories like that. I guess my main fear about reading Penny ships in an nsfw context is that she might be depicted as naive to the concept of sexuality and her getting taken advantage of because of that, which really rubs me the wrong way. Just because she’s an android and the prevailing headcanon is that she’s asexual doesn’t mean she has no idea how sexuality works, but I feel like that may not occur to a lot of authors so I’ve steered clear of looking for fics like that. The fact that only 36 results come up when I search Penny/Ruby fics rated explicit on ao3 doesn’t make it any easier to find that kind of erotic wholesomeness. I figure even fewer would appear for frosen steel, and even fewer still would have that particular ship as the main focus rather than in the background.

My favorite kinds of erotic fanfics are those that go through the work of showing the reader why these characters love and trust each other enough to have a sexual relationship. I sometimes have trouble getting into a nsfw story if there isn’t that pretext of a strong bond with the relationship. I know it’s a lot of work to build a relationship up like just to get to the part where they get it on, but it makes it all the more worthwhile to read. Nuts and Dolts is perfect for that, because these two trust each other and would communicate everything they feel to each other, embarrassed giggling and blushing included.

Like I always like to say, consent is sexy. And so is open, honest communication. Penny is incredibly intelligent and knows how sexuality works despite not experiencing that kind of desire herself, and she would be completely open to talking about those sorts of things with Ruby.

Frosen steel would be even more fun because then Weiss “I’ve been suppressing my sexuality my entire life” Schnee is added to the mix. Weiss being in a relationship with Penny and Ruby would do wonders for her coming out of her shell and exploring her sexuality because they would listen to her and talk it all out. Even if she’d be a flustered mess, she’d become completely comfortable with it because of the love and care that’s inherent in their relationship.

I honestly enjoy writing everything that builds the relationship more than the actual smut part, but they say to write the story you want to see, and this is exactly what I want to see: explicit exposition and dialogue with all the requisite awkwardness and honesty, obvious displays of love, trust, and consent, and deep dives into the thoughts and emotions of the characters involved.

That kind of story is tailor made for Nuts and Dolts and Frosen Steel, and I feel a lot of people are sleeping on that! I hope this wholesome style of nsfw writing catches on, because I wanna read it more!!!

(If anyone has read a fic like what I’m talking about, whether it’s NnD or FS or any ship really, please tell me! I wanna read it and tell the author how much of a star they are! Self promotion is encouraged!)

I have no clue how this ended up in my notifications, but I agree. I personally think that Nuts and dolts is at its best when Ruby is trans and or there is something else to play on the dynamic of her having been so accepting of Penny being a robot.

Uugh, idk what my fics were rated, M or E, but I believe they would count for this? One involves Ruby being trans and afraid to come out (so many feels) followed by smut, and the other is A/B/O where Penny dosn't have a dynamic and it makes Ruby's ruts painful. (There is so much more softness than this description insues, I swear!) --- just re read the OP; both of these involve both Ruby and Penny being inexperienced, but both times it is about comming together through that, not anyone being taken advantage of. There is some fear, but, in general, it is wholesome inexperience.

Anywho, there, my hat's been tossed into the ring, but I presume you've passed by my stuff already if you know exactly how many nuts and dolts fics are in ao3 or something.

As for frozen steel. The idea seems great. I can think of no way that Weiss would get over her hang ups enough to join a polycule or a throupple. (No judgement if anyone else has cracked the code, this is just what I would see as a road block to writing that ship, and is a good part of why I haven't touched it yet.) If anyone has any ideas, HMU! Frozen steel is a cool ship, and I wouldn't mind writing another shorter piece for it. (no garuntees)

Update on my fics

Two? Three? Who, you? No, me! Is coming along great, and I am really loving how the story is coming along. Up to chapter 3 is on A03 and FF, but chapter 4 is up for free on my patreon, you don’t need to sign up at all to go read it right now.  I have been doing this weekly, it seems to be a decent way to go about it/to draw eyes to my patreon. So, I think I am going to do a thing from now on where I let the next chap be up and available to any and everyone on my pateron a week in advance. Obligatory Patreon post + an apology

Hey! So! I am well aware I have been AWOL for a hot minute! I am really sorry. I know a couple people left, and I 100% understand that. What I suspect was covid knocked me on my ass, and then social isolation kinda wrecked my mental health, and then school took up whatever I had left. But I am more or less back on track, and I have another fic in the works. Probably going to be another relatively short one like Red and the Robot's heart and Alpha additions. Hoping for it to be slightly longer one, maybe 15k words. But who knows cause I only have the idea/outline and 1k words down so far. Hoping to have it up in its entirety on my Patreon within a week, but it might take two. I will make sure to have an update in a week or so one way or the other.For those curious, the fic will have Nuts and Dolts as I adore, but the main featured ship will be something new for me.
