âWell iââ
Pearl lowered the broom but continued to clutch it close. Somehow she hadnât expected to be thrust into civilized conversation, talking rabbit or no.
âIâve just never encountered a rabbit who speaks.â
Pearlâs mind whirled with this concept. She knew animals sometimes spoke and walked on two legs in television shows, but never in the real world. Was it possible for a specimen of rabbit to have evolved that quickly? Somehow this didnât seem like the path a rabbitâs evolutionary path would most likely take, but then again, humans were strange when they were new, too.
That was when she realized what it had said. A village inside of a strange pink doorâŠ
Her eyes turned to Roseâs room. A light pink haze still wafted near the warp pad, barely visible as it continued to dissipate into nothing.
âWait a second, you mean to tell me that youââ Pearl pointed to the creature, ââcame from in there?â She lifted a trembling hand to point at the door to Roseâs room, all the while incredulous at the thought.
âI dunno what to tell you. Maybe you just met the wrong rabbits.â Animal people and animals were... it was weird, trying to figure out why some species could speak, and some couldnât, but it tended to be easier to just not think about it at all?
Sheathing her weapon, Hoppy moves just a little closer, frowning at the now very much closed door. âMm. I barely made it out of there alive... I had seconds to spare, and had my leap been even a second earlier...â It was a little scary to think about, but Hoppy was used to danger - she was a warrior, after all!
âEveryone in my village started acting strange one day, so I... I set out to investigate, and by the time I turned back, it was lost to the pink clouds. I donât know how long I was walking, but I saw that weird door open, and I just ran for it.â In reality, her memories of the villagers acting normally were as fabricated as the rest of it - theyâd been acting like that since the moment they were created in there.

Hoppy was familiar with the Crystal Gems!
âYeah! Yeah, I am,â Ruby answered. She was still at risk of getting into a fight, obviously, but the fact that Hoppy had recognized her gem was starting to sink in. Slowly, she let herself smile a bit more. There was nothing Ruby needed to hide. Therefore, she had no reason to lie.
âMy wife and I, Sapphire, have been part of the Crystal Gems for ages. But we donât get around as much as some of the others. ActuallyâŠâ She wondered. If Hoppy knew about the Crystal Gems, then maybe, just maybe, Garnetâs name would be familiar. It was a long shot. Ruby knew that. Still, it was worth a shot as far as she could tell.
âDo you know a Gem called Garnet?â Ruby ventured. She still had her hands up so her gem was visible, too. The only difference between her and Garnet, at least in terms of gems, was the fact that Ruby only had one.
So this was the Crystal Gem Garnet had mentioned - she was yet to tell her anything besides the other Gemâs names, but if they knew Garnet, they could be trusted. Hopefully.
A moment of silence, and Hoppy sheathes her blade, keeping a paw on the handle, just in case.
âGarnet and I train together whenever she visits the Forest. Sheâs a powerful opponent. Itâs good to finally meet one of her teammates.â Empty paw extending, Hoppy smiles - sheâll allow intruders if theyâre friends of her friends. Also, her paw is very soft. Just thought Iâd mention.

Rose hadnât seen her Room in so long that it was quite the nostalgic experience. Watching the door part to reveal the pink clouds within. Along with the rabbit she always hadâ wait.
When the rabbit ran clear into her, she just stares down at it. It was a lot to process. Something truly alive in her Room shouldnât be possible unless it was herâ or she had brought it in. Yet she had no recollection of any ârabbitâ. Especially a talking one at that. She might have been a bit angrier if it wasnât absolutely adorable, too.
âWell, yes, it is my room. How.. did you get in there, little one?â
âI... woke up in there, I guess. One day my village was just... different. When I tried to leave the forest to look for help... I found nothing but clouds.â She couldnât find the wise rabbit hermits, she couldnât find the waterfall she liked to think under... she couldnât even find Garnetâs warp pad.
âSometimes everything goes black for a minute, and then Iâm awake again. My village disappeared the first time I blacked out, and then the doors opened after the second.â A paw taps nervously against the handle of her sword, single eye glancing up at Rose.
âDo... you know why my village disappeared into the pink clouds?â
outofthisgxlaxyâ:
âAAAAH!â
The last thing Ruby had expected to happen actually did happen, and she found herself jumped by⊠a one-eyed rabbit? Ruby almost didnât even register that part when she stumbled backward. Now she had a sword pointed right at her face. Well! This day was definitely taking an interesting turn.
âWait, wait,â Ruby squeaked. She had sweat starting to form on her face and her hands were held up in an attempt to placate Hoppy. Her gem was clearly visible, but that didnât immediately cross her mind.
âR-Ruby. Iâm Ruby. And we donât have to fight or anything,â Ruby said. âI just got lost. I was out cowboying, looking for places to explore, and I found this forest. But I didnât mean to intrude, I swear!â Honestly, she hadnât known it was a sacred forest at all. Come to think of it, though⊠Hoppy did sound pretty cool. And dramatic. A nice touch.
âThat Gem...â The dramatic voice is dropped, eye widening as sword lowers - thatâs one of Garnetâs Gemstones...
âWho... Ruby, I...â It was a coincidence, right? Garnet had told Hoppy and Hopper about all the other Gems - maybe this one was just... another Gem. That looked a little like Garnet. And had one of her Gems. In the same palm.
âAre you... a Crystal Gem?â The sword stays aimed at Ruby, ever ready for battle - Hoppy needs to know for sure that this Gem isnât one of the evil ones Garnet had mentioned all those adventures ago.
âYour Gem is familiar. But that doesnât make you any less of an intruder...â
nacreousknightâ:
Pearl turned from her spot at the sink, instinctively going for the broom. Steven was a bit old for bringing random furry creatures into the house, but if it was wearing a silly outfit she supposed it had to have been him.
The creature turned to Pearl just as she raised her broom to swat at the floor. She hoped the sound she made with her broom would scare it. Unfortunately, it was the animal that scared her.
âWh-who are you! And what is this place? This isnât my forestâŠâ
Pearl stumbled back, letting out a yelp.
âEarth animals donât speak!â Pearl cried, bending down somewhat to get a better look.
âAt leastâŠnot your kind, as far as I was aware. You canât have evolvedâŠâ
âHow did you get in here?â
Of course - she was attacking with the broom - the most powerful of weapons against a warrior rabbit...
Of course, Hoppy had trained against such dangerous techniques - sword vs wooden handle is apparently a pretty easy matchup? Of course, that still raised the question - why was this Gem so prepared to attack her, and yet so confused when Hoppy had spoken?
âWhy would I not be able to speak?â She lowers her sword a little, still reading the other as a threat. Brooms hurt. âEvery rabbit in my village speaks. sânot weird.â
Her sword shifts suddenly, pointing at the door behind the warp pad. âI came through that weird door. Finally escaped the terrifying pink nightmare.â
Are you tired of being nice? Don't ya just wanna go apehop?
âOf course not. Being nice is one of my sacred duties as guardian of the forest.â
â....... I do sometimes nap when Iâm meant to be training, though.â

âAre you saying youâre an enemy of the Crystal Gems?â Sheâs going to ignore the âsentient rabbitsâ remark - why wouldnât there be sentient rabbits? Hoppy lives in a village full of them! Honestly.
âWhy else would you be worried about them?â In an instant, her sword is drawn, both paws gripping the handle tightly. âAn enemy of the Crystal Gems is an enemy of Garnet, which makes you an enemy of me.â

@nacreousknight liked!
Why or how that strange door had opened, Hoppy had no idea, but gosh was she glad to be free of that weird prison - sheâs free! Free to... Not know where she is. Right now, sheâs just sorta wandering the building sheâd come out in, paws steady on the hilt and sheath of her blade, razor-sharp reflexes ready to take out any foe that might surprise her...
Sneakily does she stalk through the place, looking this way and that for any clue that might tell her where it is sheâs ended up, totally invisible to everyone- except... the weird lady looking at her.
Upon spotting said weird lady, Hoppy draws her blade, pointing it up at the Gem (maybe knows Garnet?), her single eye squinting. âWh-who are you! And what is this place? This isnât my forest...â
@eilghan liked!
This room was awful. Nothing in here worked right, and Hoppy had been walking through pink clouds for what felt like days. Ever since that kid that Garnet had talked about walked through, the village had been acting stranger and stranger, until it had just... disappeared.
And then those distant doors had closed, and everything went black until they opened again - in what felt like the blink of an eye every time, with no way to tell how long it really was - it could have been years. Maybe even two, to be incredibly precise.
Finally, the door opens once more, and Hoppy gets to running- her village clearly isnât in this strange world of clouds - so it has to be out there! Running as fast as she can, the tiny rabbit actually clears the door, cheering triumphantly for about a second before she slams face first into...
A very tall lady?
âUhh... did... did you open this door?â She asks, pushing herself to her feet, and brushing herself down, floppy rabbit ears flopping cutely, because sheâs adorable.
