[There is a dog in the basement. It's massive, maybe part wolf, though visibly some kind of mutt. From a distance, it'd maybe be up to Vern's shoulders. It's frail, grimy, gray-muzzled, but its eyes hold a sharp, aggressive intelligence.]

[It's watching Vern closely.]

*Vern looks over from his makeshift desk and notebook work, closes the blinds in his windows, and before continuing with his notebook, he sits himself behind his door.*

Really quickly, hey! Dog looking thing! Hit the wall to your left if you can hear me!

[It looks up and cocks its head, considering, before slowly, purposefully creeping towards the sound of Vern's voice. It wheezes softly with each step.]

Ok, so you can’t hear me. Maybe. Not too sure but good from here.

[It scratches at the door and whines.]

How is. How the fuck did he survive so long like this. Is this routine? Does he usually do that when someone scratches?

[It licks its lips, sniffing the air, and slowly, carefully peers through the doorway, staying alert for any tricks. Perhaps this is a moment of misplaced kindness.]

[A dog observes from a distance.]

[It's massive, could perhaps be some kind of werewolf judging by its intense gaze. It's frail, bone-thin, with filthy, matted gray fur, and it wheezes softly with each breath.]

[The dog cocks its head to the side and slowly stalks towards the WereSHA representative. It looks expectantly at them. Must be a yes.]

The rep fumbles with the dusty contents of their desk, procuring a paper plate from some loose drawer. They lean over in their seat to dig around in the fridge, pulling out a 1lb bag of prosciutto.

“Please don’t mind the dust, big guy.” Their tone is causal as can be. As the ominous dog comes closer they can’t help but whistle. “Man, you look terrible. Makes me wish I had more than just some snack meats.” They rise from their seat, plate in hand. “You’re a big one. Actually, I was gonna put this on the floor but it might be better to use the spare chair like a table.”

[The dog eyes the rep cautiously, trying to decide whether or not this is some kind of cruel trick. It sniffs at the plate and licks its lips, deciding that the food smells alright.]

[Its tail wags despite itself.]

Lucerna jumps a little bit smiles at the sight of a familiar face. Hi! More food for the k-kids or . . ?

[It comes over to ruffle Lucerna's hair idly.] Yeah. And just... seeing how things are doing. [It sighs wearily.] Sorry I haven't stopped by in a while. I...

[It frowns and shakes its head.]

N-no, nothing to apologize for! I haven’t really b-been . . . all th-that available, haha. She doesn’t shy away from the physical contact, though she does seem ever so slightly surprised by it.

W-would you mind helping me w-with cutting it up f-for the kids?

[It pauses, looking at Lucerna wearily.]

Her expression falls for a second but she puts a smile back on - though not quite as bright as before. N-none yet, unfortunately. They’ll be back soon th-though I bet.

[The Horror gives Lucerna a flat, disbelieving look. It wants to be hopeful, but at some point hope turns into denial.]

I'm fine. Just haven't been out much. [It takes out a bloody butchers knife, eager to keep the subject of conversation away from itself.] So, meat?

She nods, then pauses for a moment. . . . I-i’d know if Spook was . . . j-just trust me. I’d kn-know. Lucerna’s eyes flick over to her desk for a second, in particular towards one of the drawers.

U-uh, yeah! The garden’s got p-plenty for the herbivores, and I sh-should have whatever else you mi-might need, just let m-me know.

[The Horror sits down, cross-legged, and sets the deer carcass down in front of it. It lifts up the hind legs, going to make an incision, but pauses.]

Mind if I do this here? It'll be messy.

G-go right ahead, I c-can clean it up after! She smiles warmly.

There’s a faint, quiet creak from a door off to one side, one that’s never been opened while Horror was there.

[Horror looks over at the door, staring unblinkingly at it as it makes an incision across the back of the deer's hind legs with practiced ease.]

This house is big, [it comments, looking back at the deer. It begins to pull the skin down the leg, blood pouring out onto the floor.] So much of it I haven't seen yet, huh?

She seems a little startled, and she glances over at the door. It almost seems like she breathes a sigh of relief when she sees that it’s closed.

Y-yeah, there’s a l-lot of things here. M-most of it is safe and wh-what isn’t is kept so-somewhere safe, so i-it’s pretty nice.

I-i’m . . . not really sure what’s up w-with that room but it . . . s-seems to like me I thi-think?

[It rolls the skin of the leg down to a joint and makes a cut there with its knife.]

[The dog looks over at Jaxie. It stares quietly for a moment, unblinking, before slowly walking over to her.]

Lucerna knocks on the door to the department, then quickly brushes imagined wrinkles out of her skirt and adjusts her posture. She has a somewhat large box set next to her that she picks up with some heft.

[The Horror opens the door, in its human shape. It looks down at Lucerna curiously and grins.]

Hey. Come in. No need to knock.

[It steps to the side.]

She smiles warmly and waddles in with the box. Lucerna carries it over to the best place to put it before setting it down with a light thump.

H-hello! I-it’s been a while, a-and I th-thought I should g-get out and talk to p-people more, s-so I brought you something.

From the way she’s beaming, she’s very proud of herself.

Well, the gift is appreciated.

[It walks over and sniffs the box.]

Lucerna knocks on the door to the department, then quickly brushes imagined wrinkles out of her skirt and adjusts her posture. She has a somewhat large box set next to her that she picks up with some heft.

"Explorer," the stranger echoes upon being told their nickname.

She smiles, wearily. She's a tall, thin woman, with skin so pale it's almost gray. Her silver hair is long and matted. She pulls ragged clothes around herself, her voice rough as she speaks.

"My name is..." She frowns, distress sparking in her eyes. "Ah. I-I can't remember. I'm sorry to bother, but... could you perhaps guide me to a doctor, if there is one nearby? Or a place to rest."

Explorer looks concerned for the woman's health. "It's perfectly fine. Here, we're not too far from the clinic- I can take you."

She begins to lead the way, stepping a bit slower than usual so that the woman won't have to strain to keep up.

[She limps behind the Explorer, studying them with strange curiosity.]

*He tilts his head slightly. He's ready to move should this person attack him - he's had enough trouble with people in Hisui to know that it isn't just pokemon battles that people rely on for combat - but he's willing to give them a chance. In case they actually are hurt.*

I believe I can - or at least, I can find someone who knows where a doctor is. You seem unable to walk, might I offer my assistance?

*Ingo is a lot stronger than he looks, stronger than a human should be, and he can carry heavy things with ease. Whoever - whatever? - this being is, he'll be able to carry them, no problem. And it allows him to partially restrain them too... if they're a zoroark, they'll be at a disadvantage.

Still, it may be some other kind of form-stealer, or a humanlike being who wishes to cause him harm... he's willing to stretch his usual assumptions of possibility in this place.

Plus, if this is a Zoroark, well... this isn't exactly the smartest disguise.*

[The person shows no suspicion nor surprise, and smiles up at Ingo gratefully.]
