Standing Department Head: Lucerna Shelley
H-hello! Good to m-meet you, just let m-me know if you need anything!
[@horrorosha barges in like it lives here, holding a dead deer by the neck.]
Lucerna jumps a little bit smiles at the sight of a familiar face. Hi! More food for the k-kids or . . ?
[It comes over to ruffle Lucerna's hair idly.] Yeah. And just... seeing how things are doing. [It sighs wearily.] Sorry I haven't stopped by in a while. I...
[It frowns and shakes its head.]
N-no, nothing to apologize for! I haven’t really b-been . . . all th-that available, haha. She doesn’t shy away from the physical contact, though she does seem ever so slightly surprised by it.
W-would you mind helping me w-with cutting it up f-for the kids?
I don't.
[It pauses, looking at Lucerna wearily.]
No news, then, [it says in a carefully flat voice. It's almost a question.]
Her expression falls for a second but she puts a smile back on - though not quite as bright as before. N-none yet, unfortunately. They’ll be back soon th-though I bet.
H-how have you been? You s-seem tired, i-is there anything I can h-help with or . . ?
[The Horror gives Lucerna a flat, disbelieving look. It wants to be hopeful, but at some point hope turns into denial.]
I'm fine. Just haven't been out much. [It takes out a bloody butchers knife, eager to keep the subject of conversation away from itself.] So, meat?
She nods, then pauses for a moment. . . . I-i’d know if Spook was . . . j-just trust me. I’d kn-know. Lucerna’s eyes flick over to her desk for a second, in particular towards one of the drawers.
U-uh, yeah! The garden’s got p-plenty for the herbivores, and I sh-should have whatever else you mi-might need, just let m-me know.
Alright.
[The Horror sits down, cross-legged, and sets the deer carcass down in front of it. It lifts up the hind legs, going to make an incision, but pauses.]
Mind if I do this here? It'll be messy.
G-go right ahead, I c-can clean it up after! She smiles warmly.
There’s a faint, quiet creak from a door off to one side, one that’s never been opened while Horror was there.
[Horror looks over at the door, staring unblinkingly at it as it makes an incision across the back of the deer's hind legs with practiced ease.]
This house is big, [it comments, looking back at the deer. It begins to pull the skin down the leg, blood pouring out onto the floor.] So much of it I haven't seen yet, huh?
She seems a little startled, and she glances over at the door. It almost seems like she breathes a sigh of relief when she sees that it’s closed.
Y-yeah, there’s a l-lot of things here. M-most of it is safe and wh-what isn’t is kept so-somewhere safe, so i-it’s pretty nice.
I-i’m . . . not really sure what’s up w-with that room but it . . . s-seems to like me I thi-think?
[@horrorosha barges in like it lives here, holding a dead deer by the neck.]

*why is there a short child in a suit wandering near lucerna? who knows, who cares. it simply is now.*
-@scorching-lights, ris
O-oh, hello! Are you l-lost?
She sets down her clipboard and kneels down so she’s on Ris’s level.
Hm? No, I am exploring.
*Lucerna might notice that the child is very pale, almost paler than snow, and that their eyes and hair swirl in reds, oranges, yellows, and even a few shades of magenta*
Oh! Alright then. I-i can show you around if you’d like, th-then?
She tilts her head curiously, trying to figure out what color their eyes and hair before realizing they’re multiple.
You h-have very cool hair, by th-the way.
Alright, where is around? And thank you for the praise.
O-oh, I meant I can h-help you explore if you’d l-like.
Ah, I see. Okay, so where are we going first?
Hm . . . how a-about . . . the kitchen? she says, a little sheepish about not having anywhere more interesting.
Okay. Which direction is that?
F-follow me! She stands and leads the way over to a door somewhat nearby.
*Ris follows closely, although at a varying distance of somebody who's unsure of the proper distance to maintain.*
What's your name?
I g-go by Lucerna, w-what’s yours?
Lucerna opens the door to reveal a pretty normal looking kitchen, aside from the excessive amounts of pet food varieties. It’s overall quite well organized though.
I'm Ris, what's this?
*Should Lucerna be concerned that it points at the microwave? Maybe*
She doesn’t comment on it being odd, she’s seen much weirder.
Th-that’s a microwave, y-you put food in, w-wait a bit, and th-then it’s heated up!
Does it work on me?
I-it might but I d-don’t think you sh-should find out, i-it’s meant f-for food, not p-people.
What about hands?
*Ris pops off its right hand, a glowing red emitting from the sepereated parts*
H-hands aren’t really meant t-to be f-food, microwaves a-are just for things y-you’re going t-to eat.
Lucerna seems surprised but not off-put.
Would it not work on not-foods? How would it be able to tell the difference?
I-it still works on not-foods, i-it’s just dangerous a-and might get somebody hurt. I-if you put m-metal in a microwave, then i-it’ll e-explode, s-so don’t put metal in a m-microwave that you want to k-keep.
Why does it explode when you put metal in it?
I-i’m not really sure, I th-think something to do w-with conductivity?
Would it explode if I put this in it?
*Toru creates a red fork, made of solid light*
I-i don’t think it would, b-but I w-want to keep this microwave, so let’s n-not find out?
*Ris lets go of the construct, and it fades back into the background light. Also I just looked back and apparently I never said that Ris put its hand back on, so they toss it into the air and their hand falls back down directly onto the formerly disconnected wrist.*
Okay. I will ask Miss Merlyn about it when I return home. Why is it called a microwave? Aren't all waves micro?
Hm. I’m n-not sure actually, that’s a really g-good question. Maybe you sh-should ask Miss Merlyn about th-that too, I bet they’d know!
She watches the arc of the hand to make sure it doesn’t fall somewhere else, ready to catch it if needed, but seems slightly relieved when it lands safely.
Does it even use micro waves to work?
I b-believe so! I’d have to l-look it up.
If it doesn't I am going to call it a liar.
I-i don’t think it ch-chose it’s name, so I don’t th-think it’s the microwave’s fault. How about c-calling the person who n-named it a liar instead?
It could've changed the name. It hasn't, so I am going to call both of them liars.
As far as I c-can tell, microwaves can’t talk, s-so I don’t think it has the means t-to change it’s name? I also don’t know i-if it’s sentient or not . . .
They can't? Most of Miss Merlyn's machines can talk.
Miss Merlyn’s machines are s-special, most other machines a-actually don’t talk on their o-own! A l-lot of them d-don’t have s-strong enough parts to, actually.
*why is there a short child in a suit wandering near lucerna? who knows, who cares. it simply is now.*

Someone walks in, seeming very lost and confused. There are manacles around their wrist and ankles, and a chain around her neck. They don't say anything, just looking around anxiously.
@weedhorn-plantspeaker
Lucerna doesn’t notice at first, bustling about and keeping things organized and filling out paperwork. After a second, she looks up and makes a noise of surprise.
H-hello! I-i’m Lucerna, n-nice to meet you! She quickly hurried over, clipboard held to her chest, and holds out a hand to shake.
oh, uhm… hi…
nice to, uhm, meet you too…
he cautiously reaches out a hand and gently grabs hers
Her grip is somewhat light but she shakes with a hint of enthusiasm.
D-do you have a name?
uhm…
not anymore but, uhm, you can call me weedhorn…
she passively allows their hand to be shaken
She nods. W-well, I h-hope you can get a n-new one or get your old one b-back, if that’s s-something you’d want.
oh, uhm, it's fine… I don't mind it… I'm used to it now…
W-well, as l-long as i-it’s not causing d-distress.
W-what brings you here? Anything I c-can do for y-you?
uhm, I, uhm… kinda got, uhm, lost…
someone told me, uhm, this was, uhm, the biggest department nearby so, uhm, I thought, uhm, I should probably, uhm, come here…
W-well, you’re welcome to stay a-as long as you’d l-like! Th-though you might have to s-sleep on the couch if you s-stay overnight . . .
that's fine! it's, uhm, better than the floor, haha, uhm…
She nods in agreement.
he just stands there awkwardly, laughing embarrassedly at the attempted humour
I-is there anything I can get f-for you, like s-something to drink o-or eat?

*why is there a short child in a suit wandering near lucerna? who knows, who cares. it simply is now.*

Someone walks in, seeming very lost and confused. There are manacles around their wrist and ankles, and a chain around her neck. They don't say anything, just looking around anxiously.
@weedhorn-plantspeaker
Th-though you might have to s-sleep on the couch if you s-stay overnight . . .
