He had known from a young age exactly what he was going to do and who he was destined to be. Max’s father had been the well respected Chief of Police which meant that his son was expected to pursue the same future. Everything he did was to one day become the man his father wanted him to be. In fact, Max never really knew anything besides that, not having a dream of his own. He’d never even thought about the possibilities and stayed the course that had been carved out for him. That’s why when he was tasked with his first real job he took it very seriously. Finding Flynn Rider shouldn’t be that hard after all, Max had been training his whole life for this moment. The last thing he wanted was to let his father down after all this time he’d spent making sure his son was ready to join the force. This was it, the moment he’d been been preparing for as long as he could remember and he was going to prove himself. Of course that included some chasing around of Flynn who always seemed to barely inch by but he was close on his tracks, both of them knowing it. When it finally came that Max had caught up to him was while Flynn was with Rapunzel. After some convincing she was able to make him reconsider ever so slightly. For the first time in Max’s life there was doubt. He’d never thought about his dream before or if it was even the same one that his father had for him. That’s when he started to think, hanging around Rapunzel more often and he could see the change in Flynn as well. She had that effect on people. It was when he actually started to spend time with them that he realized these people weren’t the ones he wanted to chase at all. All this time he hadn’t thought about what he wanted which was always just to keep the people he loved safe. Max left the academy, though in turn it meant being kicked out of his parents house. As much as it hurts he wants to focus on himself right now and finding a dream of his own.
His relationship with his father is still strained. Max can’t seem to forgive himself for what he did but selfishly he wanted to follow his own dream for once. There were so many more things he could imagine for himself now. He couldn’t turn down the sheer possibilities of his own happiness.
He goes out to dinner with his mother every week and catches her up on his life. She tries to get his father to reach out but he has yet to do so.
Rapunzel is the most important person in his life. She’s the one who changed everything and he is grateful to have met her, just wished it didn’t have to be because of Rider.
Max isn’t sure how he feels about Flynn still. Sure, he’s being better but Max can’t be certain he isn’t going to go back to his old ways. That’s why he always keeps an eye on him, just in case. Not to mention he would do anything to make sure Rapunzel is safe.
Since getting kicked out he moved in with Pascal who had become one of his other closest friends. The two are an unlikely pair but they make it work. He’s even been getting Maximus into going to the theater which he never would’ve thought.
He’s scared that he won’t be able to find a dream and that he left the police force for nothing. At the same time he isn’t even quite sure what he was fighting for there anymore.
Growing up his only real passion was horses. As a kid he would dress up as a cowboy and run around the house on a broom. They had a small farm on the edge of the Isle and a few horses that he was tasked to take care of. Since Max is an old child he considered them the closest thing he had to friends growing up.
Whenever he gets stressed he goes for a ride and always feels better afterward. Back when he was getting ready to become an officer he was planning to ride horseback and got very comfortable while riding, now it’s just a hobby.
