i dont kowtow to gtav canon anymore, ive decided that after michael 'died' trevor went california sober and fully civilian to honor the end of their friendship to the point he has millions hes leaving completely untouched because he doesnt want to launder them, he worked through his grief gradually and eventually became satisfied living in a trailer park and working as a minimum wage gas station clerk. hes friends with all the methheads in the town and the fact he can be around them without relapsing is indicative of how sworn to michael he is.
he was completely fulfilled by his humble life and had, as far as he knew, worked through all his shit in michael's honor, meanwhile michael is in a fucking mansion and on the verge of a mental breakdown everyday from the extent of his dissatisfaction.
he only starts to become crazy again and relapse the moment he finds out michael is still alive. he can't believe that he did all of that--went through all the withdrawal trembles and sleepless crying nights--and michael wasnt even dead and, worse yet, is now currently active without him, which just won't stand. realizing his sobriety and civility is based on a lie, he completely shifts to not giving a shit and kills the first person he sees, which just so happens to be johnny, inciting a gang war in which he is the only opposition. perfect.
his first order of business is to reestablish a territory, desecrating the money he saved in tribute of michael in order to begin trevor philips enterprises with his friends, ron, wade, and chef. as he works to reunite with michael, the shroud of normalcy he has built for himself is slowly stripped off of him like a game of strip poker until it comes to a histrionic head when he is finally face-to-face with michael again, just to see a nightmare so horrible that not even the nightmares he had at night after his 'death' could measure up to it; michael 'just wants to move on'. he cannot understand how he is the bad guy and michael is the one 'being dragged down by him', which is why he clings to him borderline obsessively despite being unable to stand him anymore. he regresses and relapses in totality because of michael, in turn becoming dependent on him, and yet, to michael, he is the one at fault for still being alive.
nothing about the story changes after this point aside from the fact that trevor has a fragile normalsona and one of his alt outfits is his cute little gas station clerk uniform
