Handy Horse Tips #1
Although they’ve become rather rare, horse tail ribbons in certain colors have a specific meaning.
Red ribbon: Attention! Kicking horse! (Needless to say, you should always keep a little distance between yourself and the hindquarters of a horse with such a ribbon!)
Yellow ribbon: Means that the horse is a stallion. Keep a little distance.
Green ribbon: The horse is young or inexperienced (or both).
White ribbon: The horse is for sale.
Blue ribbon: Stallion or aggressive gelding - again, distance!
Pink ribbon: Ill-tempered or kicking mare.
As you can see all except the white ribbon are meant to warn other people - their purpose was/is to ensure there won’t be chaos when the riders warm up their horses on show grounds. Of course, you need to know what they mean first!
