One thing that's interesting about Discord's reformation is that it's not organic. It's literally a mission from Celestia. She directly asks Fluttershy to see if she can befriend him/make him nicer. They wouldn't have done it other wise.

Do you think Discord ever thinks about that. As much as he enjoys her friendship, and he's pretty sure she does like him in return, she only became his friend because their Queen/goddess asked her to.

Do you think he was thinking about that when he betrayed her for Tirek. How her friendship was a planned thing, organized by someone else, and only on the condition he become a different person. She would never have sought him out on her own.

Maybe sometimes even on a bad day he wonders if she's playing along because she's trying to keep him on the side of good, but not because she's enjoying hanging out together. He's needy sometimes because he's maybe not 100% convinced she likes him for real.

Just something to mull over.
