Entrusting wishes to the sky
everybody makes fun of gon's outfit and to an extent i think its warranted But i feel like you cant knock him for wearing shorts and tall boots on whale island. like its a tropical island why wouldnt he wear shorts. do you want him to overheat. and tall boots protects him from poison ivy. hes being practical
drew these bc im currently forcing 3 of my friends who have never watched 2011 before to watch it so i caught the brainworms again and then they showed back up in the manga a week later #neverkillyourself
Some gnib practice
damn its really been 12 years since we've seen killua + gon. logically i knew it was around that long but its different seeing the release date listed as 2014 lol
Thoughts after HXH 414:
first post and it’s an unfinished sketch✊
hxh 414
Kurapika: I have two friends who will protect your infant daughter. I swear on my life
The two friends in question: 14 year old boys
i have friends i can trust more than myself
first gon + killua appearance in like 70 chapters and its to imply kurapikas dropshipping them a baby
am i imagining the chrollo + gon parallels or like
not satisfied with anything I try to draw myself? –> redraw!
materializing to say that my dearest hxh headcanon is that gon is an undiscovered system and i will not be taking comments at this time
@morallygay okay yay i will. the main thing that got me thinking about it is his behavior during the chimera ant arc, although there are a few other details that piqued my interest as well (e.g., the fact that while we are privy to a lot of killua's inner thoughts, we don't understand/see how gon thinks as much)
in terms of the caa, i think the stress and trauma of that situation resulted in a really intense dissociative episode that either brought formerly existing 'parts'/headmates to the front or directly caused him to split. i think in this case it would make sense if he split into parts in order to deal with the extreme anger + despondency + guilt he was feeling. it's very obvious that gon's typical 'personality' has nearly disappeared, certainly at least taken a backseat, during the palace invasion + his interaction with pitou especially -- though we caught glimpses of it earlier on as well.
i'm not sure exactly how his system would function outside of these circumstances -- i think it would make sense if these parts/headmates are directly associated with his emotions, e.g. the one that mainly fronts during his time around pitou is a kind of 'anger holder' part/headmate (probably more complicated than that, but using that term for ease of reference). i've been using the term 'parts' because i'm not sure how distinct the members of his system would be -- i definitely don't think he's aware that he's a system, and that could be partially because it doesn't manifest the way it does for a lot of people. one way i think he differs from what's considered a typical case is that i don't think he experiences total amnesia. i think when the different part(s) are in front, his (the host's) memory of that period are probably fuzzy or hard to reach with some gaps, but not Entirely lost. i think this makes sense in the context of how he behaves after nanika heals him -- he's sort of returned to his 'former' personality and doesn't speak much or think in-depth about what happened (at least i dont think he does -- could be forgetting smth) or how differently he was acting, but i think he's generally aware of the major events that occurred.
i think the different parts would also have access to at least some of the host's memories. i believe this mainly because he seems to remain aware of the plan and refers to several people by name/with familiarity during the invasion, and while his other part(s) might have briefly fronted or co-fronted before (i.e. when he saw kite after his 'rescue'), i think the 'anger holder' starts fully fronting when they enter the palace. however i think it's possible that either access to the host's memories could be limited, or the part fronting at that time didn't care to recall certain things, which could be part of why gon behaves so callously to his friends -- the host's feelings about them was not something he was aware of or cared about at the time; instead he was entirely focused on revenge for kite/getting him fixed. another plausible way of explaining it could be that the anger holder simply does not feel the same way about gon's friends as the host does. either way i think his interactions with them are interesting.
in terms of other specific details, i think the fact that his aura changed so drastically (prior to his nen contract + transformation) could also be related -- i don't know how much of nen is ascribed to a person's mind vs body, but if kurapika can become a specialist when his eyes turn red, and personality is linked to nen type, i think it would make sense that different parts or headmates could have different auras. this is a big point of interest to me.
referencing more from the manga, he's also directly described as being in a "struggle against himself", which imo supports the idea that there are multiple parts or headmates that are disagreeing/in conflict with each other...
...which is shown even more explicitly during this moment, which is what really solidified the idea for me:
i feel like this is the biggest piece of 'evidence' towards the fact that there are different parts of himself/headmates -- they're actively arguing with/contradicting each other here. it's represented very unambiguously.
i hesitated to bring this headcanon up at first because i was worried i might be misinterpreted as reinforcing the misconception that systems/headmates are dangerous or 'evil', since a lot of people describe gon during this period as 'dark'. i do not think this part of gon is evil. i think it's an adaptive response to a lot of bottled-up trauma and emotion, whichever way you look at it.
gon could also very well have other parts besides the 'anger holder' i mainly spoke of, and i think this would also be implied in the above panel, where part of him is also arguing that it's not his fault, and part of him is asking for help, and part of him is confused. i'd be interested to explore more of these other parts glimpsed here, esp outside of the context of the caa.
ultimately it's just a headcanon i have that im attached to. i think after the caa some of his parts might become more regularly acknowledged headmates outside of/in addition to their initial roles, maybe in a co-conscious kind of situation. i also think alluka + nanika could introduce him to the concept of plurality + that could possibly lead to his system discovery. i think they should be besties also. but yeah these r most of my thoughts at the moment !
