Are Web designers and Web developers the same?
First, it is important to think carefully about each work separately.
A web designer uses graphic design software and graphics (think Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) to create an appearance for the Web. This design is then associated with coding to give it life online.
The designer may not always be the person who writes the code and, in some cases, can work independently of the team that designs a website.
Much of a designer's work is creative and involves intuition and imagination, often characteristics of people who are considered to have the right brain. People in this field can continue their education in a variety of fields, but are often attracted to graphic design and the arts. Designers collect work portfolios to present their projects to potential employers.
Some aspects of a developer's work may look like a designer, but they can also be very different.
A web developer builds the backbone of websites, usually from the bottom up, and knows specific web languages. HTML, Javascript, JQuery and CSS are part of the tools in your kit. Historically, developers do not try to do something attractive, but create websites with clean and technically correct code.
Web developers are often called left brain workers. Skills ranging from technical ability to logic and thinking are an integral part of their repertoires. Web developers can have titles in various fields, such as computing or programming. Most employers will need a portfolio during the hiring process.
The best developers are often detail-oriented and like the details.
