Loki gave a nod and walked out.  He was careful of course to not be too affectionate in public, even if he did give Howard appreciative little looks as they walked.  He led them into the room where he had Howard’s surprise, making sure all the windows were closed.  He held up a package, neatly wrapped, perfect and gorgeous.  He smiled at Howard.  “A token of my affection.”  he spoke softly.  Inside was a cigar case, a rather nice cigar case with nice cigars in it, with Howard’s initials on it, but it was engraved in green and gold lettering, the cost of it would rival most.  But more than that, it held a small note inside, a poem by Loki himself.  As well as a small apple seed.

The night air was brisk and Howard shivered before pulling his jacket closer, he would have preferred to tuck closer to the other of course but the brief moment wasn’t worth ruining their lives over. Like most days Howard both hated and loved New York,  after all it was one of the few city’s he could make his name in, and on the otherside of it New York would never love him back as a whole person, not when he had a preference for the same sex.  The package brought him out of his brooding thoughts and Howard smiled, taking it gently in hand. “It’s absolutely marvelous.” He ran his fingers delicately over his intials smiling fondly. When he opened it his smile grew, though he raised an eyebrow at the apple seed. “It’s been a long time since I’ve grown anything, and I’m more familiar with grape vines than apple trees. But it will look absolutely perfect in my new house’s backyard.”

The little laugh sent a warm shiver through Howard that had him smiling. “Don’t get too cocky, I do get awfully annoying sometimes.” He nipped at Steve’s chest playfully as he spoke. Did he really think he’d annoy Steve? Yes, Howard knew himself well enough that he could tell there would be some friction between them in the future. But that was true for any lovers, it was part of human, or in their case human-like nature. 

Yet with Steve, Howard had no doubt that they could work past any argument that came up. It wasn’t often that Howard found that in someone and he couldn’t really recall anyone else he had met that Howard had been willing to yield his own stubbornness to.  

And maybe some of it had to do with Howard’s own guilt for partially turning to Steve. No matter how well Steve had taken the news, no matter how well he adjusted to the changes Howard would always have the lingering piece of guilt for the serum turning Steve into a halfling. If he had only told Steve what was in the serum earlier he wouldn’t feel so guilty. 

“If you really don’t want to you don’t have to meet any of them.” Howard gave him a half smile. “In truth my relationship to them isn’t very close, but their fun and playful group who try their best to make sure everyone that comes to them is happy. And they of course won’t dare to play any mind tricks on you because they’ll know I won’t stand for it.”

He gave a full smile at that. It was one of the nice things about living for centuries, staying alive for that long despite all the odds against him was nothing to laugh at. Most vampires got too cocky after living an extra twenty years passed their death date and their carelessness ended up costing them a second death. With Howard he had gotten cocky of course, but he was also smart about it, and a lot of inhuman’s respected him for it.

Howard moaned as Steve kissed him. the man definitely wasn’t tired and that sent a thrill of excitement through him. Just how many rounds could the two of them have in one night? Had it been with anyone else Howard might have been nervous on the receiving end but it was the opposite when it came to Steve.

He let out a small purr as he wrapped his legs around Steve’s waist. “Darlin’ if I didn’t mean it every way I wouldn’t have said it.” Howard gave him a coy grin before pulling Steve down so that he was pressed flush against him as Howard kissed him hungrily, rocking his hips up against him. “Now get started before I get impatient and decide to take you for another round.”
