Hey! I wanted to make a mega post that literally details my experiences with ana and fasting, and will have some of my best advice? idk, you guys seemed to want it, so here you go
- When restricting, make sure you gradually create a deficit. Going straight from 2000 calories a day (recommended amount) to 200-500 cals will almost definitely trigger a binge. I recommend making and initial deficit of about 500 calories, and from there, subtract about 100-200 calories a day. You have to wait for your stomach to shrink. After a about a week, you should be able to comfortably live off of 300-800 cals a day.
-When restricting, count your calories but allow yourself to still eat sweets or salty foods to decrease your risk of binging. One serving size (2 tbs) of Nutella is 200 calories, however one teaspoon is 33 cals, and you can put it on a rice thin and have it for under 50 cals. 100 cal bags of chips and Nutella rice crisps have stopped me from binging multiple times.Â
-While its totally fine to have teats and such as long as they’re low cal, I suggest  filling up on proteins. Eggs are about 70 cal each when boiled. Protein helps you stay strong while losing weight, you don’t want to back out, do you?
-EAT UR FRUITS AND VEGGIES MY DUDES!!! they’re filling and low cal!, you can eat an entire cucumber with salt for only about 45 cals!! You can also have a whole box of strawberries (or just 20 strawberries) for 77 cals! It’s super filling and so yummy and its vegan (duh), for all of you guys who want to limit animal products in your diet
-When restricting or fasting, you will always be thinking about food. Most of the time it won’t be because you feel hungry, but just because you want it, you want the flavour
- like many other anas, I live at home with my parents. This means I have to constantly come up with excuses as to why Im not eating dinner with them. Luckily though, my mom is kinda hippie-ish and always talks about chakras and shit so I can usually tell her that Im fasting to “cleanse my energy”. she usually just accepts it, and as for my dad, I tell him Im too nauseas to eat. I have splitting headaches that for-real make me nauseas, so he doesn’t ever suspect anything. You can also always tell your parents that you had a big lunch, you had dinner or a big snack with friends, or that you feel sick. Ill make a different post with all of the excuses you can use to get away from eating.
-the more you weigh, the more calories you burn doing anything at all. That means that in my gym routine (running for one hour and biking for another half hour), I burn about 1200 calories. I did find however that the more heavy exercise I did, the less weight I lost. When you eat very little and work out a lot, your body fights as hard as it can to keep fat on. I recommend walking or doing light exercises for no  more than half an hour a day to lose the most weight.
-At parties or gatherings, I always skip all of the appetizers and snacks if I’m restricting. If I have a slice of cake because it’s weird to refuse, then i take very small bites, and spit out nearly all of it.Â
- I DO NOT SUPPORT PURGING AT ALL, but I’m going to share how because it’s always good to know (it even comes in handy if you think you got food poisoning or smth). Anyway, there are different ways to purge. One of them is taking a small dose of ipecac. It’s very hard to find, but its a medicine that makes you vomit within 5-10 minutes of taking it. I generally never purge unless I’ve binged over 2000 cals (I know, disgusting). DO NOT purge regularly, you can ruin your throat, and your teeth will rot. Just don’t do it.
- Find your safe foods and stick with them. I have a box of safe foods stashed in my room at my moms and my dads. In those boxes, I usually keep a few quaker chewy bars (90-100 cal), some smarties (25 cals per roll), some nutella or 10 cal jam, some rice thins, a few packets of low cal oatmeal, and lots of gum. I also occasionally keep rice krispies treats (90 cal), fruit roll ups (50 cals), some bags of skinny pop, and some crystal lite. since its stashed, nobody eats them but me. I usually order all of this from amazon because it cheaper.Â
- weigh yourself daily. Keep it consistent, in the morning use the bathroom and then weigh yourself. Keep track of you weight weekly to see how much you’ve lost.
-keep in mind that not losing any weight is bad, but its so much better than gaining. Sure, you should have lost 5lbs, but be thankful that you didn’t gain 5 lbs.
-100 cals won’t make you gain weight. There are 3500 calories in a pound, there will be no numerical increase shown on the scale from eating 100 calories of anything, whether it be cucumber or Nutella.
-be almost as mindful of sodium as you are of calories!!! Eating lots of sodium rich foods make you gain water weight that will stick around until you cut down your sodium intake. Just something to watch out for…
-buy something like a cute dress, a pair of shorts, or a panty set thats too small for you or shows all of your rolls. Look at it every time you want to binge. Would you rather eat a whole bunch of junk, or walk around town in your cute shorts and a cropped tee? Would you rather stuff your face or look amazing in that one  short dress? Would you rather have your rolls expand or look drop-dead gorgeous in that bra and panty set. Think about it. Keep thinking about it. Whatever you want to wear when you are finally skinny, just keep thinking about it. Make it your home screen, put it up on your wall, i don’t care, just don’t forget it.
-Set reminders on your phone. I have reminders set for 8:30 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 7:30 pm telling me not to eat.
-drink two full glasses of warm water before you eat anything at all. Its filling and prevents you from eating too much.
-Watch yourself in a mirror if/when you eat. Eat while watching fat people eating cringe compilations. Internalize all of the insults and zoom-ins of fat, think of them when you eat.
-take vitamins every morning, they are zero calories and keep your hair and nails growing nicely. Just because you are ana doesn’t mean you want all of the side effects. You don’t want to deprive yourself of nutrients, you want to deprive yourself of food. Stay “healthy”.
-green tea and black coffee aid the fat burning process when fasting. Have it, it won’t harm you.
