How White People Handle Diversity Training in the Workplace

As a former professor and current facilitator and consultant, I am in a position to give white people feedback on how their unintentional racism is manifesting itself. In this position, I have observed countless enactments of white fragility.

One of the white participants left the session and went back to her desk, upset at receiving (what appeared to the training team as) sensitive and diplomatic feedback on how some of her statements had impacted several of the people of color in the room. […] [Later] her friends wanted to alert us to the fact that she was in poor health and “might be having a heart attack.” Upon questioning from us, they clarified that they meant this literally. These co-workers were sincere in their fear that the young woman might actually die as a result of the feedback.

Well I think it works both ways. Because if you try to tell a PoC that probably not every single one of them is good (example: some criminals are PoC) it‘s immediately stapled as racist and you aren‘t allowed to even try making a point. Rather you have to think in every single action you make even without having any racist thoughts if it couldn‘t appear racist to another person. For example looking at a PoC in a train wondering if it appeared more racist if you looked away quickly or if you just looked at the person a bit more.

The problem is nowadays everything is just either black or white (no pun intended) there‘s no inbetween extremes and that‘s bad from both sides so to speak.

Just curious, but what do you think of this "taxes are theft"-mentality a lot of Americans seem to have?

Im still figuring out my opinions on taxation so I’d rather not comment on it right now.

Not American, but I agree regardless. I mean, I’m not against paying taxes in and of itself if people WANT to, but I fail to see how FORCING people to pay their taxes against their will and throwing them in jail if they don’t comply is any different to the Mafia extorting from you for “protection” (except the Mafia can’t throw you in jail, but they could still kill you or kidnap and torture you etc. if you don’t pay). You’re not entitled to other people’s money and the government really isn’t that different from street gangs when you think about it. They’ve just got better weapons, technology and enough hired goons to steal entire countries and mass-murder the native population.

Well I do agree that it isn’t nice to give your money to the government especially when they use it for usless things in a big amount… I don’t know where you’re from so I cant judge.. but I find it quite funny how people say they don’t want to pay taxes but the government should do this and the government should do that, and I want to have free health care, etc. like where do people think money for all this comes from, and who is paying the people working to fulfill all those demands?

I’m from the UK, where the Conservative government taxes the hell out of the working and middle-classes and gives that money to their rich friends and to scroungers living on what we call “The Dole” because they are too lazy to work.

And the people who think the government should be doing this and doing that and healthcare should be free are usually FOR taxation and big government, not against. I’m personally against free healthcare because it’s not actually “free” and I don’t think workers who have families to provide for should be forced to pay for other people’s healthcare against their will. If they have a job (especially one that pays a decent wage, which most jobs do), they should be able to pay for it themselves. If they don’t and they get sick, it’s their own fault for being so damn lazy and selfish.

By the way, I’m disabled. But that’s different because I WANT to work but I’m not mentally or physically fit to do so. That does not put me in the same category as layabouts who CAN work but don’t want to because they’re parasites who literally leech off of people like my parents who work VERY hard to provide for me and my brothers. I support funding the needy, but I oppose giving to the lazy.

You got fair arguments there. But how is it only affecting the middle class? Don‘t you have a certain percentage and other regulations to control how much has to be given? I mean of course if there‘s corruption going on it won‘t work out, but shouldn‘t the system basically work out? And yeah I can see the thing about rich people being lazy but I don‘t think we can say it‘s everyone... and in the end I don‘t think it will ever be fair because there will always be hard working people as well as lazy people, in the rich class but also in the poor and middle

In my country it‘s often the lefties who don‘t want to pay taxes anymore and they have that fuck the police and the government attitude but in the end they want to have the government do this and that, so that‘s where I got my idea from... they are just damn hypocrites and I hate them

I also agree on you that lazy people are at their own fault and I think they should be responsible for themselves. In my country everyone hase to pay for insurance, so no excuse... and actual sick people will get help from the insurance fonds

More important than asking “why doesn’t this person want me?” Is asking “why am I attracted to someone who isn’t interested in me and doesn’t value me?”

How about not eberybody has to be interested in you? It’s their right to not like you, but the thing is it’s not an attack on you. If you get over that person like that alright, but just because a person doesn’t like you back doesn’t mean they don’t value you they are just not interested in you period.
