He started doubting if he was good enough for Dennis, if leaving their small town meant Dennis would find someone better, younger, was afraid of the change that was to come and didn't know how to leave their little urgent care clinic behind. So Dennis left without him.
The first time Dennis mailed Robby divorce papers, when Robby saw he had a package from Dennis and for a moment thought things could be worked on, only for the devastation to hit Robby like a truck when he read the papers- he puked from crying so hard. Jack found him still drunk the next morning, laying on the floor next to the unsigned papers.
Dennis still loves Robby, still wants Robby with him, but he spent so long trying to get out, he refuses to let go of his dream. A dream Robby had always supported and pushed Dennis towards, so why was he changing his mind now? Dennis was more confused and hurt than angry. He could never really be angry with Robby.
Three years later and Dennis is doing his first rounds as an MS and he meets Frank Langdon- Langdon, who's sure and confident, and Dennis thinks "if I can't have what I want, this seems like the next best thing."
Less than a year later, Langdon proposes, and Dennis realizes he has to go back home and face everything he had been trying forget.
it was probably stemming from some deep psychological wound, but robby really had no desire to interrogate it very much. in fact, he wanted to indulge it.
dennis was lying on the bed, his head and upper back were propped up by a mound of pillows. he was lost in his phone, just decompressing.
robby lingered in the doorway, watching his boyfriend. dennis didn’t even look up at his entrance. perfect. robby slinked over to the bed, lying on his side right next to dennis. he nuzzled his face into dennis’s neck, whose only reaction was to lift his chin to make more room for it.
robby laid there and smelled him and licked him. enjoying dennis’s presence, not needing anything back. he humped into dennis’s side when he started getting riled up.
dennis sighed, pretending to be put upon, but secretly loved the attention.
robby slid his hands into his own pants, palming himself. “can i? please?” robby asked, almost begging.
“whatever,” dennis replied, his stomach swooping, but his face staying lax.
the urge was becoming pressing. robby pushed himself up to straddle dennis. he looked down at him, reveling in the eyes that weren’t even on him. he pushed his pants down, taking out his dick. dennis kept scrolling.
was robby not interesting? was he not putting on a good enough show? robby could put on more of a show!
robby stuffed the bottom of his shirt in between his teeth. he twisted and squeezed in a way that made him whimper, and dennis glanced up for a moment. just the brief waver felt like a reward, even if it was followed by another resolute reassertion of dennis’s commitment to instagram, reddit, or whatever the fuck he was doing. robby clenched his thighs around dennis but it didn’t cause a reaction. it made robby’s breath stutter.
dennis couldn’t help but smirk as robby got himself more and more desperate. it really was all mental. it should be no different from masturbation, but robby was just made so pathetic by the…lack of eye contact? a sort of reverse voyeurism? dennis wasn’t sure what exactly it was.
dennis commanded in a disinterested tone, “don’t cum on my shirt. it’s clean.”

I need people to know that Noelle DOES serve a purpose to the story albeit a bit of a weak one in my opinion
She represents Robby's inability to form strong, inter-personal connections, because he keeps everyone at a distance, afraid of the vulnerability (even when they sleep in his bed, know he can't be left with his own mind)
It's also another representation of the extent of Robby's suicidality. A new relationship with a lovely woman isn't going to fix him, it's not going to stop his plan to end his life.
of course he has the guilt of hurting her, he doesn't want to hurt anyone, but he's also willing to leave decades-long friendships behind.* romance isn't a cure all, Noelle is just another person who will mourn the man they thought they knew.
there’s something so important about robby only truly emotionally internalizing the words of other jewish people. they clearly showed duke’s magen david tattoo, yana was outspoken about her judaism and how its inherent to her identity, robby’s big emotional beat in season one revolved around him praying and clutching a symbol of his culture.
there’s a shared cultural language. a knowledge that’s intuitive about what he values. yana and duke knew exactly what to say to him when questioning his motives for the motorcycle sabbatical. yana, insisting it is the mark of him being a sad aging man and duke outright confronting robby about how he’s just running away from his problems.
robby struggles with therapy because he’s an ethnic minority. those people don’t know how to reach him, he needs community and directness and familiarity. he needs his culture to be on this journey with him as he heals. that has been made explicit.
I like to think that Dennis will get the human version of the zoomies and annoy Robby by following him everywhere, but with zero personal space, bite the fuck out of Robby's arms, pretend to kick and hit him before getting tired and curling up in his lap

So. As some of you are aware, my hucklerobby fanart was recently shown to Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa in a buzzfeed interview. It was done without permission, and while I am grateful it was well received, I would have liked to be made aware before it was posted.
That being said, the interviewer did reach out to me and apologized, and reassured me that in the future, should something like this occur, he will be asking permission before doing anything like this again. He also reassured me that it was not done with ill intentions, and that the two actors loved it.
I'm grateful for the love it has received, but I truly believe journalists need to stop poking around in fandom spaces.
