How it works

Gonna be rating fishing in games on a couple different factors:

- Fish Availability: How many different types of fish are available to catch

- Getting There: Ease of access to the fishing minigame (if there is one)

- Mechanics: Mechanics of the actual fishing

- Overall enjoyment

And my general thoughts!

will be adding the tags of my rating for each game so all games ranked that category will all be available to see for ease of access!!

Submissions for games to be looked at are heavily welcome, also if you want lmk your opinions on this stuff too, i'd love to hear them!!

Minecraft

Fish Availability:

Sadly only 4 categories of fish in the game :( however there is a decent variety of tropical fish! Update aquatic is still my favourite update made to the game.

Getting there:

Pretty easy!! requires killing a few spiders for the string so it really depends when the player wants to make a rod, also entirely optional!!

Mechanics:

Really simple! Rods will break after a while like all minecraft tools, however they're cheap and easy to make! Sometimes takes a sec for the fish to bite but it doesn't get boring!! Just a point and click thing with timing involved. Getting the rod enchanted can also be pretty fun.

Overall Enjoyment & Thoughts:

Pretty relaxing, especially in the right building environment, I usually set myself tasks on mc before fishing so a lot of the time I don't fish as much as I would like too. Wish there was more fish to catch but I understand why there's not.

Animal Crossing (NH)

Fish Availability: Really large category of things to catch! (80 species!!!), takes a good while to complete the aquarium and catch everything (particularly if you aren't on everyday and/or aren't constantly fishing).

Getting there: You can fish almost right off the bat so there's no delays in getting to the fishing content! It's a constant throughout the game so i'm not classing it as a mini-game.

Mechanics: Fishing difficulty is pretty good! Not too hard that it dissuades people from fishing but not too easy that it's boring. The process of getting fish bait can be a little repetitive and tedious (especially if you're trying to stack up on fish bait) with having to dig up clams one by one and spend a bit converting them to bait.

Overall Enjoyment & Thoughts: Big fan of the time zone and seasonal adjacent fishing!! makes me log on during the summer more due to there being so many available to get as well as specific times depending on what fish I wanna catch.

Overall good and enjoyable fishing system!!
