Damn, Time Warner Cable is evil!
The Catholic School at which I attended K-8 had a small, two room library that we'd get to visit once a month. It was there that I developed the continuing habit of obtaining 4 or 6 or 10 books when 1 would have done just fine. Another habit, which sadly I seemed to have lost, is an obsessive attention to detail, an early manifestation of was an ongoing fascination with one book in particular. I think it started around 2nd grade. I was already apeshit for space shit, and when I found the oversized photo-novelization of a movie called Disney's The Black Hole I was entranced. I had no idea what production design was or how special effects were created but the stills in this book enflamed my brain. They were alternately exciting and horrifying and I ended up taking the book out of the library many months in row, even going so far as to make up a clever ruse of "losing" it so that I could keep it forever. That didn't work. In any case, I never actually saw the film the book was based on, until very recently when i stumbled across it on TV. It's not really a good movie (I direct you to this Nerdist post for a summary), but parts of it are batshit insane, particularly the ending, which is what the clip above is. This sequence occurs right after the good guys get (spoiler) sucked into the titular Black Hole, which the evil guy (the bearded one in the clip) was trying to penetrate. This whole sequence, particular the man/robot union in hell, is definitely indebted to the psychedelic journey through the monolith in 2001 but IMHO much, much weirder, especially in terms of Disney films. The hellscape's design and the camera move through it is particularly good. This clip out of context makes just about as much sense as it does as the end to the film. Check it out.
Some hero in my brother's office showed up like this today.

You'd like this song if you listened to it.
"Cremation of Mathematics" And I always thought Math Club was about sitting around doing equations. Nope. It was about creating effigies of those equations, of the very study itself, and then burning them to the ground at the climax of pagan blood orgies. [From: Campus Life by Helen Lefkowitz Horowitz]
"WANT SOME FUDGE?". Maria Bamford's album is hilarious.
Baby v lobster part1. At some point I will learn not to take portrait format videos. That is her mom saying "that's hilarious" in the background, so I am not a monster, OK?
Longleat Hedge Maze at Longleat House (via Atlas Obscura.
The longest hedge maze in the world, and to quote Atlas Obscura's description:
The land is currently owned by the 7th Marquess of Bath, Alexander Thynn, known primarily for his eccentric lifestyle, numerous mistresses, and the erotic murals he has painted all over the residential portion of the house. He is also a great lover of mazes, and has added the hedge maze, as well as three other smaller garden mazes: the Lunar labyrinth, the Sun Maze, King Arthur's maze, and the Love Labyrinth.
Fuck Downton Abbey, what is the upstairs/downstairs situation like at this house? PUNS ENCOURAGED AS ANSWERS. OF COURSE.
