“OPEN” by RHYE
Andy,
I recently discovered Rhye while perusing the internet. I was immediately taken aback by how beautiful and smooth the music is that comes from this mysterious duo. They kept their identities secret when the Open EP was first released earlier this year. When I first heard the song “Open” I was convinced Sade had become bffs with The xx and this was the result. The duo is actually Robin Hannibal of Hannibal/Owusu with vocalist Mike Milosh. You should check out the EP, the entire thing is lovely.

Jon Hamm, you're a handsome man.

Again, thanks Annie. I feel like your tumblr has been temporarily dedicated to me today. This was the look on my face when drunk-advice-lady told me I was doing "something SERIOUSLY wrong."
So we are at a bodega around 2:00pm buying drinks to take to the park last weekend and this middle-aged woman, wearing sunglasses, a baseball cap, and smeared lipstick, stops me and my friend. UES-er: “You young ladies are absolutely stunning. If you two aren’t engaged by the time you get home,...
I love Annie so much for taking the time to write about this absolutely hilarious experience of ours. Thanks to this encounter I now know where to meet the men in my neighborhood (apparently at AA Meetings on 84th and Park). And have learned that since I'm not engaged yet I'm doing something "SERIOUSLY wrong."
On May 14th, 1770, Marie Antoinette arrived at the forest of Compiègne and met her husband, the dauphin Louis-Auguste, for the first time.

Park Benches - Love is Everywhere [Couple flirting on a fire escape], 1946, by Stanley Kubrick. More can be seen at the Museum of the City of New York. He took an astonishing number of perfect photographs.
Immature people falling in love destroy each other’s freedom, create a bondage, make a prison. Mature persons in love help each other to be free; they help each other to destroy all sorts of bondages. And when love flows with freedom there is beauty. When love flows with dependence there is ugliness. A mature person does not fall in love, he or she rises in love. Only immature people fall; they stumble and fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and standing. Now they cannot manage and they cannot stand. They were always ready to fall on the ground and to creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they don’t have the integrity to stand alone. A mature person has the integrity to stand alone. And when a mature person gives love, he or she gives without any strings attached to it. When two mature persons are in love, one of the great paradoxes of life happens, one of the most beautiful phenomena: they are together and yet tremendously alone. They are together so much that they are almost one. Two mature persons in love help each other to become more free. There is no politics involved, no diplomacy, no effort to dominate. Only freedom and love.

You are true even in my wandering.
Love this shot of the Downton ladies in Vogue UK.
Downton Abbey is tied with Mad Men for my all time favourite show. So so so so so good. Every girl needs a Matthew Crawley.
11 Things
There are five rules: 1. Post these rules. 2. Post a photo of yourself & 11 random things. 3. Answer the questions set for you in the original post. 4. Create 11 new questions for others to answer. 5. Go to their blog/twitter and tell them you've tagged them.
This photo was taken of me today, I thought it appropriate to use my most recent picture.
1. I got the idea for this post from one of my oldest friends, Kassie. Her blog is A Kitchen Conversation. She is one of the funniest people I know and I miss her dearly. We danced to "Space Cowboy" by 'NSync in our 5th grade talent show.
2. My favorite fashion designer is Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga. I adore him. He is insanely talented and gorgeous.
3. South by Southwest is like a holiday for me. I get excited for the music conference similar to the way I get giddy for Christmas. I do not have the luxury of attending this year since I moved away from Texas to NYC (I do love living here.) I have not even looked at the SXSW line-up yet. In order to ease my SXSW pain and suffering I am attending some amazing shows over the next couple of weeks including Body Language, Beach Fossils, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Kooks.
4. Tonight I made two of my favorite foods for dinner-- guacamole and grilled cheese. They do not necessarily go together, but it is what I was craving. I originally planned on making fish tacos until I read about a grilled cheese competition that took place in NYC this weekend.
5. I gave up meat (and possibly desserts, I haven't decided if I can commit to that one yet) for lent.
6. Moving to NYC the day after graduating college has been a real world slap-in-the-face in both the best and worst possible ways. I (naively) did not think it would be as challenging as it has been. I embrace and love this city for all that it is. I am blessed to have such outstanding extended family here and to be living with one of my best friends from college.
7. I love love love dogs. I really want a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bernese Mountain Dog. 8. At times I am not the most graceful person. When it snowed in NYC for the first time this year, the stairs in my apartment were wet from people tracking snow in. I slipped on the stairs and bruised my tailbone. These occurrences happen more often than I would like them too. 9. I love banjo music. There are a couple of dapper men that play in the Bedford Avenue subway station sometimes (one of them being Morgan O'Kane, whom I blogged about here.)
10. I am currently listening to Grimes' new album Visions.
11. My great-grandmother, Big Red passed away in July. Her 105th birthday would be on Tuesday so my cousins and I are having dinner to celebrate her. Kassie's Questions: 1. What's the scariest thing you've ever experienced? The car wreck I had when I was in high school and first started driving.
2. Describe the most vivid, realistic dream you've ever had.
I had an awful nightmare that everyone in my family was dying.
3. What is your favorite dessert? Tiramisu, although this is a difficult question because I have quite a sweet tooth.
4. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what song would you choose? "Oogum Boogum" by Brenton Wood
5. Which actor/actress would you pick to play you in a movie about your life? I am going to say Jessica Chastain because she is my new favorite actress, although she looks nothing like me.
6. What was your best Halloween costume? I made my own cupcake costume and my own sheep costume in college-- definitely one of those.
7. What is your favorite Disney movie? The Little Mermaid.
8. If you had to go on a TV game show, currently or no longer on the air, which would you pick? Cash Cab! Hey, it could happen!
9. Do you prefer vacationing in the mountains or at the beach? I love both, I really can't choose.
10. What is your earliest memory? My earliest memory is sitting on my grandma's bed with her pointing at pretty things we liked in the Neiman Marcus catalog.
11. What product are you willing to spend big $$ on? Clothes and make-up. I am a total girly girl.
My Questions for You (I tag anyone who sees this and wants to do it by the way)
1. What is your favorite dog breed?
2. What is your most embarrassing moment?
3. Where is one place you have never been before that you would like to visit?
4. Who is your favorite fashion designer?
5. What do you remember about your first crush?
6. IF you had to pick a favorite band or music artist who would they be?
7. What is one thing you would like to experience before you die?
8. Name one long-term goal you have for yourself.
9. What is one name you would absolutely never give your future child?
10. What is the funniest story from your childhood?
11. What is your favorite menu item from your favorite restaurant? (name the restaurant and the city it is in)
