The Balloon Hoax
The balloon could be a metaphor for writing in the new era of mass publication in the US since it was new and slightly scary. The balloon defied what people know about science up to that point so it seemed crazy to them. It brought them out of the realm of possibility that they knew of. Things were changing and some people were not always to keen on seeing things change. With mass publication it could have been a bit scary to writers that were not used to writing for a big audience. It would have also been because their work may not have been suitable for a vast amount of different people so would have to adjust their style in order to fit the demand of the public.
The newspaper is formatted into straight columns so it is easy to follow along and does not become confusing. The format is consistent throughout the several pages of It forces the reader to follow those sections and move from left to right. Each column is dedicated it its own category, like poetry. It is different than book reading since a lot of the information is laid out on one page rather than being broken up into multiple different pages. If I were to try to describe a newspaper to someone who had never seen one before I would tell them that it is several sheets of largish paper that have printed articles in columns so that there can be a lot of articles in the news paper and also make it understandable to the reader.
Poe’s “Murders in the Rue Morgue” may be embedded within the social expectations of periodical format because of the nature of the content. It is a short suspense story which works well for the quickness of newspapers and magazines. While it is still longer compared to other texts found in newspapers or magazines, the fact that is a suspenseful story draws the reader in. The story is about finding meaning in periodicals because when M. Dupin could not use is one logic he had to turn to other sources in order to try to figure out the case that seemed impossible to commit by a human. Poe’s story asks the reader to recognize that there may be things outside of what they know so in order to figure something out you may have to expand your field of thinking,

I was not fully sure what I was supposed to do in all honestly so I threw in a Sylvia Plath poem to mess around with. Also ignore the zoom in the corner, I had some stuff going on while I was trying to figure it out.
Natural Readers
Natural Readers is a very interesting concept. It basically converts text to speech so people can listen to either their school notes, books, documents, etc. There is even an option to take a picture of text to convert it so it is not just online text which makes it less limiting. Additionally there is a feature to switch on dyslexia font so it is inclusive of whose with dyslexia. There is an option to convert the audio to a MP3 so you can convert the file then listen to it on the go. This is quite frankly a very amazing concept. It can help those with dyslexia, can help people that may be struggle to read but are better at listening, and could even be of assistance to people that are blind since they can listen to documents on their own time.
1. Undyed linen was the raw material for paper, being bought in bulk by the paper-maker.
2. The linen was sorted and washed before being put into a damp heap in order to rot, generally for four to five days.
3. After drying the rags were cut up into pieces and put into wooden mortars. They were then made into a pulp by being pounded by water-powered hammers. Impurities were removed by filters and running water.
4. The pounding process occurs in two or three stages, separated by more rotting.
5. The final stuff was then transferred into a large open tub (vat) with many litres of water, up to 1,500 litres. It was diluted with the water in order to get the appearance and consistency of liquid porridge. The mixture was kept tepid with a small charcoal furnace in the side of the vat and it was stirred occasionally with a paddle.
6. A pair of moulds were dipped into the vat to collect some of the mixture. When about a third of the mould was underneath the surface, it was lifted up the turned flat so the stuff could flow onto the whole area. As the water is draining away it mould is given a sideways shake in one direction then the other in order to lock the fibers together and “shutting” the sheet.
7. The mould is turned over onto a piece of felt and the method was repeated. Once there were many layers of paper and felt it was taken over to the standing press where the water was pressed out of it. There were as many as five of six men gathering to pull at the bar.
8. The paper was now strong enough to handle. It was separated from the felt and pressed again before being hung up to dry. The water was called waterleaf, and it was absorbent like blotting-paper.
9. The sheets were then dipped into a solution of animal gelatine made from vellum or leather shavings boiled in water. This gave the paper a relatively impermeable surface, which is called sizing.
10. Finally the sized paper was then pressed, dried, pressed again then smoothed out by rubbing or hammering. The finished paper was then sorted to find any imperfections.
Title: Fads of Society. New York. 2021.
Description: This jar holds relics of an older society. While some of the items may make a comeback in the future, many are lost in time to an updated and more modern society.
2/10/2021-A bottle of hand sanitizer since it has been essential during the pandemic and it has Baby Yoda on it so it’s really cute.
2/9/2021-A nearly empty chapstick. It’s cool cause I never really finish them because I always lose them before I’m anywhere near being done with it.
2/8/2021-A pen that has a knife. I thought it was cool since it has a hidden knife in it. That’s pretty much all about this one.
2/7/2021-This is today’s. It’s a magnetic bookmark and I absolutely love these. They have an arrow on the other side to tell you exactly where you left off in your book. I have a good amount of them even though I only need one for a book I’m reading. Some of them I have had since I was in high school. My obsession started when I guy I liked at the time gave me one and I overused that one until it was worn out so I bought more of the same styles. I was quite strange back then.
2/6/2021-This was meant for yesterday but I got distracted and forgot to post it! I got this pin awhile back at an antique shop while on a day trip with my mother and Bubbie. This was one of my baubles because my mother had to “bribe” me to go out that day. Now it’s a funny inside joke that we have with each other.

2/5/2021-I found this old best friend necklace. It’s amazing how I’ve managed to hold onto it for all these years.
2/4/2021-This is a used wax melt. I thought this interesting because even after I think all the scent is gone because I’ll melted it for as long as I can, there is always some scent leftover in the wax afterwards. Side note it is vanilla cupcake and it smells amazing, it is probably one of my favorites!
