MihiMihi Explanation
Take 5 final Mihimihi project
My Mihimihi incorporates an aspect of my life chapter, which has definitely shaped who I am today. Moving to Wellington was a huge decision in my life and has definitely had it’s up’s and down’s. This is actually my second attempt at university after deciding I wasn’t ready last year. With all of that in mind, my idea is about change and choosing your direction you want to go down in life. The doors are all made of different materials, some harder and more dense to move than others implying that some directions in life you choose may be harder than others as well. The idea is all about navigating your way through your own pathway and making your own decisions. The door pathways are surrounded by tinted glass on the long sides so the people using this installation are able to see out and also have some reflective qualities in certain lighting. The glass is also incorporated on to the roof so in the night-time they are able to light up therefore people can use this installation at any time. The doors have an interconnected and domino effect t them, as you move one door another one is likely to move if they are connected, this shows how certain pathways lead on to each other.
I learnt how to resolve my light up door issues today and played around with changing the colours and emitter strengths, as well as having multiple doors light up or just a singular one. Also was interesting to see the doors illuminated with light but without colour as well. I am still considering whether or not I commit to the light up walls or individual doors- issues involving the doors could be unable to get the specific colours I have chosen and recreating that particular colour in indigo lighting could be difficult.
Week 4- Group video project during class time, word we used: contrast
Group members: Bex, Ellie, Bliss and Honor
Experimenting with night time lighting, decided to go with just plain roof lighting at night- less intense and harsh on the eyes as opposed to just the plain ground lighting or both combined, although light up doors would be cool and my ideal execution for just that is appearing to be hard.
Take 5 research and ideas in relation to initial idea, interconnected revolving doors. Picking which pathway to go down.

further addition of lighting at night time testing.
Small lights added in twin motion, also consider light up door panels or the surrounding glass illuminated at night.

Other drawing, implying the technical strength needed to move certain textured doors e.g. brick much harder to push
