Surge and Kit's relationship is supposed to a complete bastardization of Sonic and Tails relationship . Sonic and Tails both mutually care for and respect each other, tails genuinely idolizes sonic. Meanwhile Surge just sees kit as her slave. Kit just mindlessly accepts the abuse.

I know the intent. I can still say that its boring and the dynamic "hedonistic but insecure sister and manipulative brother love each other a lot and hate the rest of the world" would have been a more interesting and appealing twist on the good ol Unbreakable Bond :p
