@hss-lily
raf/kyra is going to be a jax/lily situation isn't it
k and i did the math and ramsey has had 13 diamond scenes (1 of which was a group scene), bryce has had 6 (3 of which were group scenes), jackie has had 4 (1 of which was a group scene), and raf has had 3 (all of which were group scenes)
non lis have had 4 diamond scenes total (aurora, esme, elijah, and kyra all had 1 each)
that means ethan has had as many diamond scenes as the other lis combined and if you take out the group scenes, heâs had double as many, and heâs had a staggering 13/25 of all diamond scenes so far in book 2, more than half of all diamond scenes in book 2
individually heâs had 2.1 times as many scenes as bryce (4 times as many if you take out group scenes), 3.25 as many as jackie (again 4 times as many without group scenes) and 4 times as many as raf (basically 12 times as many without group scenes, because raf has no non group scenes!)
and yâall wanna say thereâs no favoritism here
canât believe Iâm restarting TRM for the third time....no way in hell am I taking that bear cub after Iâve seen how the wolf cub looks like
Rant about Book 2 Beckett
I really want to like Beckett. I really do. But the writers should have stopped writing him with this attitude by book 2, since heâs grown and has friends now, but no, theyâve only accelerated and have made him worse.
What I like about Beckett is that he seems to genuinely have a big heart. He cares about his friends. He cared so much about MC that he felt anxious doing nothing and took down the wards to train in the mirror dimension to protect them.
I like what he says when Atlas and MC find the birthday party. MC asks whatâs going on and he says âI thought it was fairly obvious, I arranged those balloons to spell it out [happy birthday].â That to me is just sweet.
I like the way Beckett teases MC, and MC doesnât let him get away with hiding his feelings and not addressing them. (Brewing the essence in the cauldron scene, Beckett laughs and smiles and says MC is ridiculous, I thought that was cute)
I like that Beckett was so worried about MC in the mirror dimension that he needed comfort, and tries to focus on helping MCâs injuries. and is frustrated with himself when he struggles with the spell. That to me speaks depth about his character.
I like that Beckett is easily flustered, and doesnât know how to take a compliment.
I like that he is driven, and serious about his education and clearly works hard to do good at it.
I like that heâs curious about nature and believes that everything around him has an explanation, and darn it if he isnât gonna figure it out.
I like that when he apologizes to MC for inadvertently putting them in danger, he doesnât make excuses for himself and doesnât expect them to forgive him.
These are all clear examples of who Beckett is. Theyâre all part of a character I came to like by the end of book 1. They show that he is passionate and caring, and also very critical of himself. These all show that he has a deeper understanding of his flaws. I honestly donât think he was ever a bad or mean person to begin with, but he shielded himself by closing himself off to others and scaring them away by being rude. But when it doesnât work on MC and their friends. we see him beginning to open up and trust in their friendship. He even says this when he apologizes to MC (at least implies that heâs grown). So we have this caring, well-rounded but flawed character who would prove to be such a great friend in book 2. And I think he also shares a lot of feelings with Atlas, so naturally I would expect Beckett to be a source of comfort and a relatable friend for AtlasâŚ
But no. The writers of book 2 seem to have taken all of the problems Beckett struggled to overcome in book 1 and amplified them. The absolute misunderstanding of his growth in book 1 allowed for the writers to make him say that mean stuff about his friends in book 2. The end of book 1 Beckett, imo, NEVER would have said any of that. Especially not the bit about Atlas, since they have that in common.
I think that Beckett being insecure about his sister is still fine, but again, they took it way too far when the Beckett from book 1 would be more humble and could probably easily figure out why he was feeling insecure and solve that. Imo Atlas could have bonded with him a little bit.
In conclusion, Iâm disappointed in the way the writers have handled his character in this book, since it doesnât reflect at all the growth he went through in the first one. It almost feels like the gauntlet was handed off to inexperienced writers who didnât read the first book. I really hope they fix this issue soon because otherwise itâs really gonna turn me off from Beckettâs character. I physically recoiled seeing what he said about the Pend Pals. Not today, Satan!

astrid just HAD to die in front of imogen and bring my perfect group nerve score downâŚselfish bitch until the end
HOLY FUCK OK SO I WAS REPLAYING THE CHAPTER AND SOME THINGS WITH BECKETT STUCK OUT TO ME
this may just be a shot in the dark but the way he reacted in the diamond scene, how he seemed to hold himself responsible for what happened to the mcâŚ.. I feel like itâs him that atlas saw.
like I donât think heâs working with raife or anything, especially since heâs a li and itâs usually something more innocent when pb pulls this âyour li might have betrayed you!!â stuff. maybe something to do with his studies?? idk. I might be reading more into this than I should but I really think itâs beckett now.
edit: ALSO it would make sense why he had the diamond scene at the end of the chapter rather than anyone else. to put little hints like this in place.
i forgot i named my group hoes this gave me whiplash
I donât understand the dungeon fight scene like⌠Parker fucking tells us to run and get help so we book it while he helps out the other LIs, but then after idk how long running, MC somehow⌠catches up with Parker?? Somehow in the span of a few minutes he saved the other LIs, ran away, lost them, and hid from cult members and MC just happened to find him⌠just so he could get a diamond scene then they proceed to fight cult members together while the other LIs are nowhere to be found.
me, an ajay stan, being asked to spend diamonds to dance with skye or rory
I am honestly shocked over MCs Grandpa being in the cult but when I saw a photo of him in the preview of the playchoices tag I rlly thought it was a cult member wearing a very, very ugly mask and for that I apologise to him.
me when imogenâs parents and chief kelly were revealed as being part of the cult: oh what, am i meant to be SURPRISED? like we all-
