A Table where Little People Live
Interactive furniture for children from teamLab is a wide round table with many projected little characters navigate around the objects you place on it - video embedded below:
This is a table where little people live. The little people run around and do not notice us, but place your hand or an object on the table and the people will notice and jump onto it. The action of the little people changes in response to the shape and color of the object placed on the table. The more objects that are placed on the table, the more the little people’s world comes to life and they play with delight.
You can find out more about the project at teamLab’s website here
(It is also part of Tokyo Designers week at Milano - more info here)

Eyestalkers
Public installation piece by Front404 features a collection of eyeballs which watch it’s passers-by - video embedded below:
The Eyestalkers are a colony of watchful eyes. They stare unblinking from their window out into the world, tracking all passersby walking to and from the city centre. The staring eyeballs on stalks are there as a visible manifestation of all the invisible surveillance people are walking into when they go into the city, like the many hidden cameras or systems tracking your phone. The Eyestalkers aim to create a tangible sense of being watched, to bring the surveillance out into the open, to create that necessary and warranted sense of paranoia that is lacking because of the elusive nature of modern surveillance. Because of their erratic, jerky movements they are real eyecatchers, so they are seen by all while seeing all.

grapheme
Installation by Robert Seidel features colourful projections onto hanging abstract paper sculptures - video embedded below:
Hand-drawn sketches were the starting point for the installation grapheme. They delineate the artist’s initial creative idea and serve as the basis for the films projected, as well as for the form of the projection sculpture itself. These sketches are translations of memories and associations, which the artist, like in a diary, has captured from the most varied places and stations of life.
… The organic projection sculpture frees the film from the dogmatic limitations of rectangular silver screens and monitors. These delicate, laser-cut tissues float in the architectural space, light spills over them, and they come to life before the viewers’ eyes.
Currently shown at the Museum Wiesbaden, Germany.

Paracosm 3D
App for next-generation depth-sensor smartphones that makes 3D scanning a collaborative process - video embedded below:
The future of 3D scanning is that we’ll all be able to do it together! Check out this demo by Paracosm of the Google ATAP Labs Project Tango phones. Paracosm and Google Labs have been working side by side to create the technology to make collaborative scanning possible.
You can find out more (and see an interactive WebGL demo of the above data capture) at the Paracosm website here
This is in the direction of how I expect this tech to create a new methodology in photography, “Collaborative Photography”, where authorship is shared and captures are synced. Think of it this way - imagine the group-selfie requiring not one single camera, but several at exactly the same time, with devices communicating to each other sharing their data together to produce the final ‘shot’.
LightByte
Internet-connected controllable matrix of shutters that turns sunlight into pixels - video embedded below:
LightByte, a massive interactive sun pixel facade, modifies the sun’s rays at your whim into intricate shapes. It turns sunlight into an expressive medium to carry information, communicate ideas and to shape your own shadows.

Line Segments Space
Installation by Kimchi and Chips features a polygon web of nylon strips, projected on to great effect - video embedded below:
An architectural web of threads subtends a null space. It hangs abstract and undefined, a set of thin positive elements segmenting the dark negative space between. Dynamic imaginary forms are articulated into the physical volume by the material of this thread, and the semi-material of the light. The visual gravity of the filaments occupying the space between.
A 2D canvas is reduced from a surface piece into a line segment, but then constructed into another dimension, a volume. Light creates contrast and order on the lines to articulate digital matter. Digital forms inhabit the interconnected boundaries of space, moulding visual mass,
The artists reference Picasso’s light painting, and Reticuláreas of Gego who’s work offers a contemplation of the material and immaterial, time and space, origin and encounter and art and technology.

AHORA. A song in the Hypertemporal Surface.
Published on 20 Mar 2013
AHORA. A song in the Hypertemporal Surface. Interactive Sound Installation 2013. Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Concept, design and realization: Mene Savasta Alsina + Hernán Kerlleñevich Sound materials: OPERADORA (Mene Savasta Alsina, Hernán Kerlleñevich and Santiago Martínez) Realization of sensing system: Pablo E. Riera Video documentation Camera: Guido Rodriguez Limardo Montage: Hernán + Mene Ahora is an interactive song, composed and installed in the Hypertemporal Surface. As temporal solids, its sounds exist potentially unfolded on the floor waiting for someone to make them sound through his path. The Hypertemporal Surface is a software environment developed for musical composition in space. It allows to “install sounds” in space. In other words, it lets us map time into space. As every moment of the original duration of sounds is anchored to a specific spatial coordinate, moving through space is literally moving through time. Whoever walks inside this room evokes, in a particular way, the potential times of the composition; the song is rewritten with every new path. Ahora, as the compositional environment that hosts it, proposes a reflection about the relationship between time and space, about the idea of all times coexisting simultaneously in the same plane, and that it is the observer who updates them, bringing order and meaning. This work is based on a spatial composition principle. The distribution in space of four sound layers, each one belonging to a speaker, sets up the interaction possibilities for this musical piece. The position of the observer in the room controls a personal time cursor for all the sounds. If the viewer approaches the speaker, the volume rises and the instants that he hears depend on the angular position. If he stands still, time stops. Only by walking through the installation it is possible to know the immanent temporality of each sound. Only the one who walks through the Surface is capable of revealing, with his ears, the spatial morphology of these sounds created by Operadora, our musical project. http://cargocollective.com/operadora
21 Balançoires (21 Swings)
21 Swings Exercise in musical cooperation
Every spring, an interactive installation takes over a high-traffic area in Montréal’s Quartier des spectacles and sets a collective ritual. The installation offers a fresh look at the idea of cooperation, the notion that we can achieve more together than separately.
The result is a giant instrument made of 21 musical swings; each swing in motion triggers different notes, all the swings together compose a piece, but some sounds only emerge from cooperation.
The project stimulates ownership of the public space, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds, and creating a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city centre.
A traveling version of the project is currently being made for these collective moments to spread around the world.
