Quill honestly couldn’t believe the words flowing through his ears right now. It was almost as if a real life Jurassic Park had opened up and real life dinosaurs were just stomping through the floodgates, threatening to make every kid’s wishful thinking come true in the craziest of ways. “I might have to start calling you the dragon tamer or something with your talents. That’s too freaking awesome,” he grinned. His eyes lowered a bit at the mention of his alien abduction, but it certainly wasn’t a sore spot for him to talk about these days. “It was pretty traumatic at first, not gonna lie. But the alien who abducted me along with the rest of his crew–he was a father to me in a way I wish I’d realized a lot sooner than later. Protected his crew from wanting to eat me up, and from there, I just grew throughout the far reaches of the cosmos…it’s a lot cooler than it sounds right now, promise,” he assured righteously, beaming when she agreed to their story swapping adventure deal. Thor wouldn’t have shit on this. “Oh I get it. So they tried to treat you like you were some odd outcast who didn’t belong there right? Because you weren’t a pureblood or some hokey bullshit they try to make up last minute or something along those lines right? That’s completely unfair to you. I’m sorry to hear that. Least you proved everybody wrong right? And you and your best friend Marlene arrived here too? That’s awesome,” he grinned. “Now you’re not alone, present company excluded of course!”

“Dragon tamer? I like the sound of that actually,” Mary laughed and blushed a bit, it was certainly the most impressive of nicknames she’s ever gotten. She continued to smile as he spoke about his father figure, until he mentioned what the crew wanted to do, then her eyes widened. “I’m sorry, did you say the crew wanted to eat you? That’s...absolutely dreadful. And terrifying, especially for a child I’m sure. Well, I’m glad they didn’t do that at least,” she chuckled, although she was still horrified that aliens would want to eat people. That made her dreams of space a bit less enticing. “It is really nice that you were able to find a father figure like that though, but did you ever miss Earth?” The way he reassured her that her treatment as a muggleborn was unfair made her feel more understood. Those who didn’t like her might not have been the majority in school, but they were certainly the most outspoken. “Actually, that’s exactly the term they use, purebloods,” she laughed. “It must be a straightforward name to be so easily guessed. But yes, Marlene arrived shortly before I did, which was amazing. I’m not sure I would have kept it together so long if she hadn’t. Have you seen any friendly faces around?”

Earthly entertainment was vastly different from the things Thanos grew up learning about and enjoying as a young Titan. There weren’t any TV shows or streaming subscriptions, no video games or electronic boxes, but war, fighting and pain for sport. However, one show has caught his eye in particular lately, enough for the Mad Titan to assemble an Iron Throne of his own of sorts. The Titan Throne, he dubs it as he takes a seat into it, molding it to his liking with his abilities. He sits in front of the greenhouse, as an individual approaches him, looking to get inside. “State your business,” Thanos demands.

Mary was headed to the greenhouse to look over some plant species that were best suited to helping bees when she heard his voice stopping her. Her eyes widened, she had certainly never seen anyone who looked quite like that before. “I’ve come for some research, is there a reason you’re guarding the greenhouse?” she asked, quirking a brow. He might look imposing, but Mary had seen scarier things in a greenhouse. Like screaming mandrakes, those were unpleasant.

“i suppose she would, i just don’t think i could handle being that selfish again.” the shadowhunter sighed, his mind had gone to tessa almost instantly. “i loved a woman dearly and she, for some odd reason, fell for me as well. but i had to– say some things i truly did not mean in order for her to hate me because she would have the same fate as my sister.” he explained, blue eyes moving up to mary.

Mary’s expressions softened. “You did that, to save her? I can see how that would be an option, but wouldn’t you think it should be her choice whether she would put herself in danger or not?” she wondered. “Instead of making the choice for her.”

“So you’ve got schools all over the damn Earth practicing all these different types of magic and spells and everything like that? Probably wouldn’t surprise me if you guys had secret locations and castles hidden in the wilderness or in plain sight raising dragons and unicorns. Am I right or what?” Quill laughed a bit, slightly nudging Mary in the side with his elbow. “Can’t blame you for being excited when you found out you were a wizard. Means you didn’t have to live the boring ass life of being a normal human being set up for the eventual disappointment of a long, boring ass life. I felt the same wave of relief wash over me once I got abducted into space.” Quill pondered his thoughts a bit further. He was almost positive he could’ve remembered some popular book about wizards being talked about when he’d first arrived here, but he never paid that much attention to it. After all, music was moreso reflective of who he was and what he felt in his soul, rather than reading. “I’m still really kind of curious as to what kind of magical creatures you work with and raise wherever you’re from. You tell me more stories about your magical school days and I’ll tell you more about my adventures in space. Do we have a deal?” he grinned. “And wait, who’s your friend? I can understand the not understanding how you got here part because that part’s confusing the hell out of me too, but you arrived with a partner too?”

“Actually, you’re exactly right. Wow, that was a really good guess honestly,” Mary laughed, even harder once he nudged her. “I’ve worked with dragons and unicorns and the like, but that’s more because of my job. Thankfully dragons don’t really roam about at the schools...typically.” Her eyes widened at the sudden revelation. “You were abducted? Merlin, that’s terrible. I mean, I know it ended well considering but that does sound traumatic. How old were you?” she asked, her voice getting calmer. “That sounds like a deal,” she smiled a bit again, although she felt badly for what he must have experienced. “Oh yes, my best friend Marlene. We’ve been friends since school, she and a few others sort of took me in to their group. Magic might be fun but I didn’t come from a magical family. Some wizards don’t like that, they didn’t want people like me at the school.” She realized then they both seemed to have to go through some pain for their exciting lives.

There wasn’t likely to be a better time than now for a much needed moment of privacy, though. “ Mare… I met someone who claimed he was Harry, as in James and Lily’s Harry. That’s… impossible, right ? ”

“What?!” Mary immediately stopped what she was doing and stared at Marlene with wide eyes. “You’re joking. Harry Potter, here? But...he was a baby...” Mary’s mind was reeling, but she thought of the other things she noticed in her time there. “Have you wondered what year it is? I mean, people walking about with tiny phones that are also computers in their hands...maybe the boy is telling the truth. It would be a match for the other shocking things I’ve heard from others here, honestly. Did he...look like them?”

Head tilted, finally Clark eased himself down onto the grass a few feet from the girl. “I actually grew up on a farm in the Midwest of the United States. So sitting under trees idling time away with a book or whatever was pretty normal for me growing up,” he told her with a nod. “Dad wanted me to work more on the farm, I think, but a teenager’s head is anywhere but ‘chores’,” he chuckled, thinking back. “How is the studying going? Having any particular difficulties?”

“You know, I thought that might be where your accent is from,” Mary laughed and nodded. “That sounds like a dream to me, I grew up here in Scotland and I would always sneak off to read and look at animals that were around. I did work with animals before coming here though, so thankfully no difficulties yet,” she smiled. “Really, I mostly came here for a bit of fun, not that I know how I got here in the first place though. Is that as much of a mystery to you too..? Sorry, I didn’t catch your name. I’m Mary Macdonald.”

Mary frowned, she certainly sympathized but she still couldn’t understand. But she had seen this sort of bitterness in people many times before. “I’m sorry for your loss, but wouldn’t she have wanted you to be happy? Love isn’t the difficult part, it’s other things that get in the way. Without it, what’s the point?”

“They have special schools for magic users here?” Quill questioned with sudden surprise, not sure how to take that. To even have schools like that…why couldn’t he go to one when he was younger? Perhaps he was destined for the stars, but surely a magical school would’ve been interesting to explore before blasting off to the stars, right? “A dangerous magical school sounds pretty badass if I do say so myself,” he smirked, “not that I know anything about that. I’m pretty sure if I stepped one foot in there, it’d be like Indiana Jones going up against the whole wizarding world of that one chapter book series I heard about…damn it, I can’t think of the name for it, but you catch my drift!” the Guardian chuckled. “It is overwhelming at first, drifting through the void of space. It’s like floating inside of a colorful vacuum with so many places to go. the more you get used to it, the more unfazed you become to a lot of it, but just space exploration and adventures itself? It’s fucking fantastic,” Quill marveled. “I can usually repair it, but not this time. The usual supplies I need to repair it are completely out of stock and quite frankly I don’t think any of those Triple A batteries are gonna cut it for powering my ship. Guess I’m stuck here with the lot of you for the forseeable future!”

“Oh yes, in this very country in fact,” Mary nodded. “At least, that’s the one I attended. There’s one in the United States too, France, Bulgaria, loads of places. I was overjoyed when I found out I was a wizard, that I would get to go to the school.” The mention of books peaked her interest. “A book series? I don’t think I’ve read one about that, I’d love to know the name if you think of it,” she smiled. She looked at him with wonder as he talked about space, she imagined it was a dozen times better than the first time she flew on her broom, and that had been completely enchanting. “That sounds absolutely incredible. I bet you could write an amazing book about your adventures, even if people don’t believe it they would certainly love to read it I’m sure,” she added with certainty. “Well, if it means I get to hear more stories of space, I’ll admit that’s kind of good to hear,” she chuckled. “You know, I’m stuck here too actually. A friend and I, we have no idea how we even got here,” she admitted.

Finally. People here on Earth were actually starting to call him by his codename, the one that he much preferred, that his mother gave him when he was a child. Unable to hide the goofy grin on his face, he almost got lost in her question before he finally managed to snap back into reality and out of his own thoughts. “Pleasure’s all mine Mary. You seem like one of the coolest chicks around here, I’m willing to bet. Especially since you work with magical creatures and by relation…magic?” Quill inquired, impressed. He hadn’t exactly come across many magic users or sorcerers for that matter outside of maybe Dr. Strange, but maybe magic flowed differently for her. “Honestly, I feel right at home in the cosmic spaceways of the stars. There are so many different solar systems and planets that a person can jump to and visit. So many different alien species and life forms out there you might just be overwhelmed at first. But of course, you know me. A legendary galactic outlaw like myself is hardly ever overwhelmed by anything,” Quill bragged. “It’s home though! My spaceship isn’t too far from here either. It’s just badly damaged and in need of repair. Major repair,” he clicked his tongue in disbelief.

Mary had never been called the coolest, or even cool for that matter, before. With a big grin, she nodded. “I’d like to think I’m pretty cool, hopefully anyways. But yes, magic! I went to a special school for it, although it’s probably one of the most dangerous schools someone can go to,” she laughed. She liked hearing him talk about space, it reminded her of how she spoke about magic, this amazing world they were put into that others didn’t even realize existed. “It certainly does sound overwhelming for most people, I’m sure it takes a special kind of person to go through all that and be unfazed. I know some people are so concerned about a place being their home, but when you have the universe out there...why sit at home when you could see all of it? I’m sorry to hear about your ship though, are you able to repair it yourself?”

“Wow, has someone broken your heart?” Mary questioned, shocked by the level of negativity. “Love is a wonderful thing, I simply don’t see it properly portrayed in Romeo and Juliet. Besides, love doesn’t start wars, not real love. Maybe possessiveness, or obsession, or envy, but don’t blame love for that.”
