Results of HPA 2017’s Second-round Judging II have come out

The results of second-round judging II of HPA 2017 have come out with the 66 photo sets to compete for the Grand Awards being decided. The short list of top 66 will enter the final-round judging to be reviewed by the International Jury, who will vote online the best photo stories in their heart.

The International Jury will also review another 100 candidates for the Jury’s Special Awards. As usual, the winners of Grand Awards and Jury’s Special Awards will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.

Results of HPA 2017 Second-round Judging I have come out

After weeks of hard work in reviewing the winning list of top 666 sets of photos in the second-round judging I of HPA 2017, 500 sets of photos that will be awarded the Performance Awards are now decided.

The results of 100 candidates for Jury’s Special Awards and 66 for Grand Awards will be posted later this month.

666 photo sets have been selected to the second-round judging

The first-round judging for the photo entries of HPA 2017 was completed after careful and serious selection based on the contents, shooting techniques and aesthetics. 666 sets of photos are entitled to be in the second-round judging.

This year 666 photo sets out of 7,848 qualified ones have been admitted to the second-round judging to compete from the 100 Nomination Awards and Jury's Special Awards, 60 Documentary Awards and 6 Grand Awards in the near future. The rest 500 sets of photos will be awarded the Performance Awards. Congratulations!

Note: To find your photo set ID number easily, you can log into your account page on the HPA's website and put the mouse pointer on the cover of your photo set, and the ID number will pop up.

From now on, the participants who are not on the winning list of 666 can download their participation certificates by logging into their account page on the website. Thank you for your participation and great support to Humanity Photo Awards 2017.

The second-round judging is scheduled to start in late May and will complete in early June. We will announce the winning list of Performance Awards and Nomination Awards on our official website, news section in time. The Jury’s Special Awards, Documentary Awards and Grand Awards can be only announced during the awards ceremony in September.

HPA 2017 photo submission brings to a successful close

The HPA 2017 photo submission has ended successfully at 12:00 noon, Monday April 17, Beijing Time (Extended Deadline). During the 7 months of photo calls, there are 6387 participants from 133 countries and regions who have registered in our photo contest, and 7848 qualified photo sets have entered the evaluation process.

From now until mid-May, the submitted entries and information of our participants can be viewed only on the website. During this period, our work team will sort the entries out and begin to prepare for the first-round judging. If you want to know about the progress of the entry evaluation, you can visit http://www.hpa.org.cn/content.php?catid=52&pl=en for the latest news. Participants can also log into their account page to view any notification for awards.  

Our participants can use their account page of the website to download their participation certificates around mid-May while the first evaluation ends. And the 500 winners of Performance Awards will be announced and can download their award certificates as well.

Last 4 weeks to submit your entries before April 15, 2017

Counting from March 18, there will be only 4 weeks left before the photo submissions of HPA 2017 end (midnight April 15, Beijing Time). The information below is shown how HPA 2017 will be proceeding after April 15 until Mid-May:

April 16-Mid-May, Participants have no chance to log in for uploading & editing their entry; The first round of entries’ evaluation starts.

From Mid-May, The first round of entries’ evaluation completes; Participants can re-log into their account to download the electronic copy of award certificates (Performance) and participation certificates of HPA 2017.

Before you have no chance to log into your account, we may suggest you better hurry up to arrange & submit your photo sets and check the number of them that have been submitted. The more you leave to submit and edit your entry in the last second, the more possible network congestion you will encounter.

The participants who have or are going to submit their entry need to be careful about the entry rules of HPA 2017, No.17: "To guarantee the fairness of HPA 2017, personal information of the entrants should not be shown in the description of photo set, on the photo or in the caption. Otherwise, the entry will not be judged."

Call For Judges of HPA 2017

The Humanity Photo Awards 2017 (HPA 2017) is now calling for international judges. There is no restriction on nationality of the judge. Anyone who meets the following criteria can submit his/her application.

Criteria:

Qualifications: A HPA 2017's judge is someone who possesses extensive experience in photo editing,photo judging or experience of working as a curator, and is someone who demonstrates profound understanding of cultural and documentary photography and does not hold extreme views.

Judging Duties:

Judges of HPA 2017 are required to conduct themselves professionally in accordance with the HPA's guidelines. They will be responsible for the final round of submissions’judging, which is scheduled to be carried out online in the first two weeks of June. Moreover, HPA 2017's judges are required to devote their efforts and sufficient time to complete their judging duties as specified by organizers of HPA. Importantly, all the judges are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement with CFPA and promise not to disclose judging results to anyone prior to the Award Ceremony of HPA 2017.

Benefits for Judges:

Judges will be invited to attend the HPA 2017's Award Ceremony to be held around in mid-September, 2017 and attend some scheduled photographic-related programs. Organizers of HPA will pay judges for round-trip airfares from their residence cities to the city where the Award Ceremony will take place and visa fees as well. The cost of accommodation and transportation during the ceremony will be covered by the organizers.

As the deadline of photo submissions (April, 15) is drawing closer, we may suggest you better hurry up to sort out the photo stories you have on hand and check the number of entries you have submitted so far. Please take into consideration of possible network congestion as well.

There must be some cultural events and stories taking place around you that you would like to capture, document and share with us. If you need us to sign up and submit photos for you for any reason, first please download the form http://2017.hpa.org.cn/upload/HPA2017-Registration-and-Photo-Submission-Form.docx  and fill in all the information. Then you need to make sure that your photos have been edited in a proper way (each photo should be 1MB-4MB in JPG format). English title: The Humanity Photo Awards

Since 1998, the China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA) has launched a call to photographers all over the world to document folklore phenomenon extensively and in depth. To this end, CFPA founded HPA, blessed with UNESCO’s support and is granted with its logo since the 2nd HPA. HPA gets held biennially and HPA 2017 is the latest session, short for the 10th Humanity Photo Awards.

HPA 2017 will call for entries from 16 September 2016, proceeded as a full-online photo contest. Therefore, our official English website of HPA will be vital for you to remember and conduct necessary actions there. You can find all the previous & current HPA relevant information as your reference on the website, including schedule, guidelines and submission, etc.

Photo Submission Period of HPA 2017 Will Last 7 Months Long

From Sep 16, 2016-April 15, 2017, participants can select, submit and edit their entries in a 7-month time. Throughout the HPA contests in the past, there were photographers from 162 different countries and regions, who have documented 178 cultural subjects around the world. We were hoping that no matter where you are from or no matter what you will submit, your work could set a new record of the HPA’s figure.

After HPA 2015, our work team has improved the official English website of HPA, in terms of layout design & functionality. From now on, participants of HPA 2017 can immediately see their familiar submission page by entering the new version of www.hpa.org.cn and clicking “Submission” from the menu on the right side of the webpage.

First of all, let’s talk about the layout of homepage, Humanity Photo Awards News & Winners’ Story, underneath promotional photo slides, can help you get into the latest HPA relevant news and thoughts of winning photographers of HPA 2015. In addition, contact information is always shown at bottom of the homepage that will make your reading easier. You can quickly tell what’s happening about HPA 2017 at the moment by just glancing the highlight news at the left bottom of the homepage.

Secondly, let’s take a look at the menu above the promotional photo slides of the homepage:

1.     Mouse on “News”, you will see a long drop-down list underneath it, listed the news from HPA 1998-2017. Clicking on any session of HPA, you can be led the page of news and check what’s happened at the relevant session.

2.     “Categories & Awards” and “Entry Rules” on the menu are actually divided into 2 parts from the guidelines of HPA 2017, just for you to read easily.

3.     You can read the complete Guidelines of HPA 2017 by clicking “Guidelines” on the menu. Mouse on “Guidelines” and click a choice from a drop-down list, you can download the guidelines with different file formats, based on your needs.

Not like the Submission Guide of HPA 2015 with dozens of pages long, the work team has improved a handy Submission Guide for HPA 2017. The following tips are shown how to use a new PPT version of Submission Guide online:

1.     Visit www.hpa.org.cn, mouse on Submission, then click Submission Guide from a drop-down list on the menu;

2.     After entering the page of Submission Guide, a list of 6 parts will be shown on the left side of the page:

Winning Tips for HPA 2017

Have you been waiting for the moment when the photo submission of HPA 2017 gets started? Are you little confused about the 6 categories while submitting your entry? Whatever the reason you may have, here are some of our past experiences as the winning tips to share with you.  Tip 1: Take a “Gallery” Tour on the Website of HPA

You can view more than 2,300 previous awarding-winning entries (photo sets) by clicking “Gallery” on our official English website of HPA. Throughout the photo tour, you can open your thoughts on what kind of subjects to shoot by merely viewing the titles of winning entries. Not to mention other elements of winning entries you can get enlightened from.

Tip 2: Read “Winners’ Story” on the Website of HPA

We started calling for the articles named “Winners’ Story” from our photographers since HPA 2015, which got good feedback. In “Winners Story”, the photographers share with the audience how they feel about shooting their winning entry, even how photography affects their life. From behind the stories of winning entry, the audience would understand the thoughts of photographers in shooting folk-custom field, and how they determine and fulfil their goal. Throughout the tour of “Winners’ Story”, you will definitely get inspired and find unique themes & methods of shooting.
