Oh wow Oh wow Oh wow...
I can't believe it's been almost a whole month since I last updated!! It's been quite hectic. Well not really. Mostly me moping about life and stuff but guess what..I WILL MOPE NO MORE! :)
Let me start writing about what I did last month...I ENDED UP BUYING THE BAG! It's one of the best decisions ever! It's humungous. If I wanted to, I probably could fit JJ in there and all his pads lol
INTERNATIONALL DINNERR!!
Okay so on Thursday we had International Dinner and it was CRAZY! I think about 20-30 different countries were represented! We had the Pakistan-ian Turkish, to Peruvian, and Austrian! Even Taiwan and China came! :) I made seasame balls and put it with the Chinese table who got SECOND PLACE! WHOOOHOO! Turkey got first and we tied with Finland :)
It was so interesting to try everyones food. I realized that a lot of different cultures use CONDENSED MILK! haha It seemed to be a common ingredient in the desserts hehe. That was great for me since I love condensed milk. Also, a lot of people made pancake like substances and then just ate it differently. So I got very very full since I started stuffing my face right away hehe.
It was interesting because everyone kept asking me...Where's the American table?! And I sadly couldn't say there it was because there wasn't one LOL. The Americans who went to the dinner all brought something else. We had a guy bring Japanese food, me bring Chinese and the other brought Peruvian food. It was fun because this gave me two options. I could either say...well you can just go to McDonald's and pick up the American food, or I could say...This is ALL America! We have foods like this all the time because we are so integrated. haha It definitely was a good night, but I ate so much food. I wish I could have tried more.

WHAT A GOOD DAY!
EKKK! I couldn't have asked for a better day. It was snowing! (YAY!, even though I normally don't like snow, I thought it was beautiful because everything was just covered in white), then I go to class and it was actually pretty interesting. We talked about what would happen if economists ran the world. Of course it would be quite logical and everything will be able to run smoother but at the same time then we woudln't be able to have a lot of things we take for granted to help us off our feet. THEN i got 100 on my midterm! WHOOT WHOOT! Went to Hungarian class...and it was super fun. I think I was a bit obnoxious but because I didn't get much sleep I was quite hyper.
After class Eli and I went and I got a Mango Chai Tea Latte and we discussed our travel plans! We are going to be going to Romania and also Pecz together hopefully. Afterwards I came home and it was an okay nap. I couldn't sleep much, so I just watched lots of TV, and found out that tomorrow's class is CANCELLED! hehehe
Then I went to Rossman and bought really yummy smelling shampoo! It's apple flavored then went to dance class. Had a pretty fun Wacking Class and then a Contemporary HipHop. THIS CLASS IS AMAZINGG!! I had a LOT of fun with it. My shoulders and knees are completely bruised but I had a lot of fun just rolling around on the floor and exploring just how to move. THEN I went home and then OUR TRAM BROKE DOWN! It was super super cool! This lady announces something and everyone looks pissed and gets off. Then I saw the tram leave and then it had to back up into another track so that it could go get repaired. Definitely an amazing day!!
Now I'm probably going to shower (with my delicious shampoo) and then relax and find something fun to do tomorrow since class is canceled! hehe )

Sunny Sunny Tuesday with No Class!
Professor Rivera's class has been...CANCELLED FOR THE DAY due to the professor's sickness. WHOOHOO!!! :) This is what was waiting for me on my classroom door. Thankfully I saw this before after I left, so I could actually drag myself out of bed. Since I was already out I decided to head over to Elizabeth's bridge to go to the Gellert mountain! The sun was starting to come up and I thought it would be a perfect day for a hike. Here's the beginning of my adventure:

AND I MADE IT! After 20 min of walking up stairs, I'm up the Gellert Mountain and looking over the city...it's beautiful. I know you can't really tell but when you're up there..its just amazing.
As a reward for making the trek, I ate this whole bar of chocolate when I was on top. Mmm MM MM..SOO GOOOD! It seriously just made my trip up there perfect. I sat around eating chocolate, half sleeping, and just enjoyed my time. I'm a bit worried because i did that for almost an hour. Normally I would get bored after 20 min, but I didn't.
It's GREAT that I'm learning to appreciate the little things, but at the same time...I hope I can adjust when I go back!

After hiking, I was hungry so I made THIS FISH!! I CAN KINDA COOK!! It has mustard, sugar and ...that's it LOL next time I'm going to use honey and soy sauce because that's apparently the honey mustard sauce they use someone fancy resturant. YUMMYY!! ...I had to microwave and then fry this fish afterwards since I couldn't tell if it was done or not...LOL
Yup so all in all...yesterday was a very fulfilling day! :)

Thursday was definitely RECOVERY day! I think all my playing in the snow almost got me sick. However, me being the smart capable individual I am realized this and SLEPT ALL DAY THURSDAY! Well not all day, but I slept until 8ish? Then I woke up and went over to Elli's apartment to cook! This was the first time that I made REAL spaghetti since I got here. We put in mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes (No meat because Elli is a vegetarian) and it was delicious! Usually at home I just boil pasta and scoop some sauce into it. We ate with Demetri (German) and Julie (French) (I think that's her name. She says it with a very strong French accent so I'm not sure). They are such interesting people, and Julie is definitely very very spirited. After going home, I waited online to talk to mommy all night but then she NEVER CAME ON!
Friday wasn't much of an improvement. I'm almost positive I didn't do anything besides a couple emails (got a scholarship interview! We'll see how that goes since I might need to wake up at 3am for that). Then I slept again and woke up around 9 to go out with Elli at 10. We went to Julie's friends' place for a pre-party. EVERYONE WAS SMOKING! It's crazy. I bet they each smoked like a pack in the time that I was there, which was maybe two hours! When I came back I had to shower and wash my hair twice because everything just smelled like smoke. ICK.
Nothing too exciting happened there, except when I was wandering around at 12 going home I wanted a gryos (yes I'm a piggy) so I walked into a little shop where apparently there was a guy who was fascinated with me. He kept saying "szép" and pointing at me. I kinda just ignored me but the more I ignored him THE LOUDER HE GOT! Eventually some other customers were trying to help translate and they kept telling me that he's saying that I'm beautiful. I didn't know how to respond so I just said thank you. BUT THEN HE WOULDN'T STOP! He just kept saying szép szép szép! and eventually he came up to me and wanted me to kiss his cheek and I just COMPLETELY ignored him. Julie was with me and she just told him I wasn't interested. It was so scary!! LOL I'm never wandering around without someone to protect me anymore! haha
Saturday, did a lot of sleeping again and then woke up to go to Ocktogon Bistro (all you can eat) with Flora and Ben. It was nice...they had this chocolate mouse cake and it was AMAZING. I had two of them, but then after eating sooo much food I felt kinda...yucky. Then we walked around and found apparently one of the top 10 prettiest mcDonalds in Europe!
It was quite nice! If I lived closer to it, I might go and do some reading there! I'd be so classy haha

Then I did a little shopping and bought some tropical candles and a candle holder for two dollars because I needed something to spice up my life. I also bought more chapstick! My goal this trip is to finish using at least ONE chaptstick. It's going to be hard since I have 4 now, but I'm just so curious about the other flavors. haha We'll see what happens.
I went home and felt very...yucky. I decided that on Sunday is going to be my detox day! (Frances and I already decided that we aren't going to eat any chocolate on Sunday. Super hard since I ate 6 bars on Thursday) but then I watched "Hungry for Change" and it talked about how lots of foods are harmful for you. I was quite angry because it kept talking about how Pasta, Bread, Potatoes all these carbs just turn into sugar and all you consume is SUGAR! So i decided that sunday would be my detox day and I'm just going to eat raw foods!
...it's so hard. I woke up in the morning and bought cucumbers, tomatoes, bananas, cauliflower (not sure how committed I am to eating that raw yet) cheese, bread (to make a grilled cheese sandwich!), butter, lots of yogurt, trail mix, rice, and SOUP CUBES!
They literally are little cubes that you put in water to make chicken broth. We'll see how this turns out. I want to make chicken porridge like how Daddy always does! I'm not sure how it's going to turn out but we'll find out tomorrow when I get off of this dumb detox day!
We'll I'm off to go to the grocery store so I can buy more veggies!

...my trip to Tesco wasn't so successful. LOL It made me want to eat...EVERYTHING. So I bought chocolate/snacks enough to last me for two weeks, so I wouldn't have to go back there :)
haha at least I'm HOPING that I don't need to go back there.
I also bought fish! I'm going to use it to make the Salmon with Brown Sugar recipe that I found. hehe I'm so excited for it! I might make this on...Tuesday?
Eventually thought I got so curious about these soup cubes I had to try one. I decided that it would be a shame if I didn't get to try this while I still had time to cook. I put in one cup of rice and then I melted the soup cube in some water and put it into the rice. (2.5 cups of water) and then let it simmer. I forgot to buy egg so I couldn't add it in, but i think it was still pretty good! I need to get some chicken or something to mix it up. It got boring after a while :(
Since I didn't want to COMPLETELY fail my "detox day" i cut myself some veggies too.
Even though I failed my raw foods diet I'm definitely not failing my no chocolate diet! I bought a mango that I can eat later! :) I hope its yummy!
Why am I in Hungary?
People always ask me this question..."sooo....why Hungary?" and my standard answer is, "Oh because I want to experience something new. See how their economy is doing, especially since they just came out of communism"
Yeah...that's true to some extent, but I feel like it's the..nice packaged answer that people expect to hear. Truthfully, how economics function don't really...excite or intrigue me. Don't get me wrong, its great that the food hear is cheap but I'm not sure if I can really get a good feel on how an economy is doing just by living here especially when I don't even understand the language.
Then comes the, "experience something new" and that's true. It is something new, but I can get that anywhere in Europe. But I actually think I chose Hungary or Thailand because I want to experience what its like not living in such a perfectly packaged world. It's interesting because sometimes, I miss veggies, or fresh fruit that looks...edible. But then I remember that I'm in a country where even the cucumbers or oranges need to be shipped in. That's what I'm here for. To live a life that isn't comfortable, where I don't have a phone that can help me out when I'm lost, where I don't speak the language or look like the people.
When I was grocery shopping and had to lug a backpack that I could barely carry on my back and a suitcase filled with water, I thought to myself. What am I doing here?? But I realized, that I'm here to learn how to live a simple life. How to enjoy myself when there is not everything going on. How to connect with others even though we don't speak the same language.
I'm in Hungary because I want to become a better person. I'm not even so sure what that means right now. But I'm guessing it means having the self-control to not stay in bed all day even when I have nothing to do. To read for fun. To talk to people who look different.
I feel like for the majority of my life, I've always done things because I felt obligated. Like I have to do this so then it can help my future, I have to do that because it's what expected of me. Even though there are still some expectations, I now can do things that I want to do. I don't even know what that means because for the last month I've just lounged in bed, and watched TV shows. However, I'm getting bored. I'm bored of it, and now I'm searching for more fulfilling things.
I'm interested as to what the rest of my trip here is going to be like. Hopefully it means a lot less junk food, and more interesting adventures.
Smile! It's Wednesday!
Today was such a good day. Even though I had an 8 am class, and don't think I got much done, I had a good day. I felt like...I made my own decisions without having to worry about what others thought.
In the morning, I found out that there's a group of students going to Zagreb, Croatia! Even though I don't know many students, Iris, and Syeda all invited me to just go. There was a group going on Thursday (1:30pm), and another group on Friday. The group on Thursday was going to go to the zoo on Friday! I wanted to go but at the same time, I wasn't sure if they wanted to just go drink because I overheard this girl saying that she wanted to pre-drink on the train. However, I talked with Elli (my german friend) and we decided to not go and we would just wait till it gets a bit warmer and then we can go together!
My discussion with Elli turned into almost a three hour conversation over an Americano and a homemade chocolate cookie with marmalade. Mm Mm Mm! I really like Elli. She's super open and I think she's kinda like me! Tomorrow she invited me over to her flat and we could first hang out then go get dinner. I'm really excited!
Then I decided to go to Nyugati station where I saw that there was one last bag that I wanted. I told myself that if I found it still and it was on sale then I would buy it. As I was going down the tram, I noticed that THE SUN CAME OUT!! It was GORGEOUS. Here are some pictures of my school in the sun! Oh and the Danube/Chain bridge.

As I'm walking towards Nyugati, I realized that Vaci Ut actually has a bigger New Yorker and that they probably would have a better chance of the bag still being there! So, I started back up the Danube...and I saw this coming.
It was a HUGE snow cloud! When it was sunny, and snow was already being blown over, I thought it was ash falling at first. (I actually consciously reminded myself not to breathe too deeply since that could be potentially dangerous). ...but then it got colder and colder and when I looked up...there was a HUGE snowstorm! It was so much fun! I ran around with my tongue out trying to taste the snow. I'm pretty sure everyone else around me who was putting on their huge fur coats thought I was crazy. I'm not sure if you can see the snow but I tried to take some pictures of it.
Luckily I brought my glasses, so I put them on and walked around since with glasses the snow wouldn't hit my eyes and i could just waddle around. It was SO MUCH FUN!! I know if I always had to live in it, I would hate it but why not enjoy it while I can??
Eventually I made it to New Yorker. Here's the bag that I'm considering buying.

Pros:
-It's big so can use it as a backpack. (After my pick-pocketing instance, I don't trust a backpack on my back, so I wear it in the front but then it makes my back hurt)
-It's super cute and reminds me of little messenger people.
-Its very functional because there's a flap that you can buckle and also a zipper on the inside to keep everything safe
Cons:
-It's 9000 HUF aka $45 :(
SO my conclusion is...WAIT FOR IT TO GO ON SALE! I'm going to check back in a week and see if its on sale. If it is then...great! If its sold out...then great! LOL either way it's going to be a win for me.
I actually still bought something though. (Sigh this always happens) I bought a red leather jacket that was on sale from $70 to $20, and I thought..why not? haha we'll see how that goes. I'm going to wear it tomorrow to class! I bought it, and justified it saying that this is just a fraction of the money that I would have spent if I went to Croatia.
Then I walked back to Corvinus to meet up with Flora, and I saw this gem!

Flora and I then headed over to McDonalds and I got a raspberry and vanilla pie (YUM). After about 50 min of waiting, Ben finally came and we went to Ors Vere Tere where I got...LANGOS! This is the fried dough with garlic, sour cream, and cheese. Sooooooo yummy. After being stuffed with super unhealthy food, we then went to Ikea to get Donuts, Jam, and Milk. mmm...
It was a miracle that I was able to still go home after eating so much food. I just got home and now I'm lounging around thinking about either doing some reading, studying some English, or doing my homework for tomorrow. ...most likely I'll just watch some Nikita and then go to sleep. hehe Have a great Wednesday!
Week 3: On with the routine
Monday: I had two quizzes in Hungarian but then I was too distracted that I couldn't focus on it :( However, I still ended up with 100 in one and 2/3 in the other one. It's interesting that instead of writing two out of three they write 3/2. Then I spent the 4 hour break that I have to go find a TESCO. I wanted to find a TESCO because it's like the Hungarian Costco but it's just a cheaper grocery store. Too bad I couldn't find one until I went super far and had to rush back. Then I had Hungarian Folk Dance! This time it was actually quite fun. Even though I still don't really know what's going on, I still tried and people seem to be more accepting of me. Also, I had a better sense that it was 3 hours long, instead of wondering the whole time when it would end. The teacher once saw me dancing and she came up to me to say good job. It was very interesting haha because she doesn't speak English and I don't speak Hungarian. However, somehow it worked out.
Tuesday: I WOKE UP SUPER EARLY TO BUY A $30 PIECE OF PAPER. It just proved that my landlord owns the property and can lease it to me. I was annoyed because this is something that my landlord is supposed to provide and yet he's not willing to pay for it. However, I couldn't do anything about it so I guess its a sunk cost LOL. I left the house at 8 to give myself a 3 hour buffer just in case I had to wait for a long time. However, I didn't so I got to pick up my services marketing text book AND make it to class on time. Then right after class I went straight to the Immigration office. After waiting for 20 min, I FINISHED REGISTRATION! Now I just need to go back on March 5th to pick it up. To celebrate I went to Office Depot and picked up notebooks!

They were so cute I couldn't say no LOL. Then I got home after grocery shopping at TESCO...again. I bought more buenos and bread. SOO YUMMY!
Then I went to a "Ruin Pub Pub Crawl" and so ESN (the student network) brought us around to four different pubs. To hang out and drink. However, everyone kept complaining that there wasn't enough alcohol and that it wasn't worth the money. It got really annoying, but I guess last time they got a lot more alcohol..and it's a TUESDAY. Who's drinking on a TUESDAY?! Eventually I just stayed behind at Instant while everyone else went to Simpla for more drinking/clubbing. I stayed behind with Anni (a Finnish girl), Stephan (a German), and another German girl. It was quite fun! We just sat around and talked more about our experiences.
At first I was always quite hesitant to go to these "pub crawls" because I was scared that everyone just gets RIDICULOUSLY drunk and forces everyone to drink. However, it wasn't like that, and it really seemed that with alcohol everyone seemed to open up. It was easy to talk to people, and I didn't feel like they were judging me the whole time. I guess I just need to find a good group to hang out with. Hopefully, I'll be able to find them soon!
Bratislava Weekend! 2.0
Yay! I went to Bratislava again with Iris and Sarah! It was pretty fun, and much less stressful because we had two days to go through the city which took us about 4 hours last time to go through.
It was snowy but because the sun was out everything started becoming all...slushie.
Had another famous Bratislava potato dumplings with goat cheese and "bacon". I realized that I actually like it so much because it reminds me of mac and cheese back home and even though its simple its quite delicious!
Then we went to the Patio Hostel. It was my first hostel ever! We shared a room with a random German dude and Turkish Girl. It was 10 euros for one night which is about $14/ person which isn't bad at all!
What was bad though was that at 8:30 pm EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED! I needed to go to Tesco to buy some stuff, and to get dinner but almost everything was closed. So instead we went to Cafe Mayer and I got yogurt cake and hot punch (Hot Orange Juice with Rum)
The next morning we went to the "Bllue Church!" It was REALLY pretty.

Then we walked on the other side of the Danube to go see the castle and the UFO. It's this huge disc looking building the nazis built probably go give them a panoramic view of their enemies.
Yup! That's the end of my trip. It was pretty fun, and eventful. I got to know Sarah and Iris more which definitely is a plus! I also got my reading done on the train which I was quite proud of, since I usually don't do homework when I'm traveling. However, I'm trying to get more efficient when it comes to doing homework/reading on the trams/while moving so that when I'm a consultant I'm used to working on the go! (Yep! I'm always planning for the future)
What aliens need to do...
These were the 18,000 HUF fee stamps that I needed to buy to process my residence permit. I was so worried about going to the immigration office because everyone kept talking about how bad it was, how they had to wait for 4 hours and what not. However, I just woke up at 6 am and headed over around 7 so I got at the Immigration Office at 7:50am. I was the SECOND in line which was nice but these Asian ladies completely cut me and pretended like I wasn't there. I realized that I'm an alien! Just because I'm not from Hungary hehe
I waited in line and started talking to this guy from Serbia and it was nice. Around 8:20 am they let us in and I got processed! It's interesting because the lady at the counter first has to see everything that you have before she decides if you should get a number or not. That's what takes so long, but then I got my number. Waited for about 5 min and then got to get processed! :) I didn't get my residence permit though just because I was missing the Original Proprietorship form stating that Peter owns the flat. I'll need to go back in two weeks, but we'll see what happens. At least I wasn't kicked out of Budapest!
Now off to go read.
My Very Sparse Final Schedule...
So finally my classes are done. After all this craziness, a friend recommended Corporate Social Responsibility to me at 12:55 so I decided to drop my Human Resource Management at 12:57 so try to get CSR, but of course the site would freeze and by the time I got it back up it was already 12:01 am so my registration period was over. I can't add or drop classes anymore, and now I for once am taking the bare minimum number of classes to be counted as a full time student. I've never taken so few courses ever but I guess that means now I can relax and enjoy my time here. It seems that Monday's will be bad just because Hungarian Folk Dance is at 18:10 to 21:30 but I mean I think it'll get better once I fit in more. I'm just glad my schedule is finalized and that i can DO something now.

Today felt like the first day of school all over again. I had Hungarian for Beginners then I headed over to the other building to Business and Society. This class is definitely interesting. Our professor is Professor Writz. He loves telling stories and rambling on about a lot of random stories. I think it's going to be a good class because it'll make me think more :)
Then I had a break and it was then time for...Hungarian Folk Dance! LOL this was definitely a very very interesting experience. Everyone showed up with gym clothes, and tennis shoes. ...I showed up with two layers of jeans, high boots, and a sweater that i couldn't take off because all I was wearing underneath was a tank top. Whoopie! haha but I thought it was great that I finally got to exercise and run around because I've been thinking about sleeping pills for the last couple nights since I haven't been sleeping poorly but I haven't been sleeping well either. However, I'm sure after today's work out I'll be able to sleep just fine.
We did LOTS of footwork and hand eye coordination, so that's really interesting. Furthermore, this is I think the first time I've been completely surrounded by non-asians. I've never been around a group which didn't have at least another asian in it in my life. But In this class...there isn't a single asian. That's okay though. I think I might have some trouble understanding though just because everything is in Hungarian and I can't really see what's going on. However, everyone has been very very accepting of me and been trying to explain things to me. It's been lots of fun. I'm sure i'll let you know more about it later! Right now I just need to recuperate since I've been dancing in heels for about 3 hours and had a 12 hour day.
Completely On My Own...
It's weird being completely on my own. What does that mean? It means... SNACKS ALL THE TIME!!
haha just kidding....well kinda. It was...different having to go grocery shopping by myself. Usually it's always been for fun since Claire usually thinks of stuff we need or my mommy will go shopping for me, but this time I had to think about what to buy on my own, what to cook for the week, and what supplies I'll need.
I even need to learn how to push a heavy shopping cart without sliding everywhere. I couldn't really control it because the carts are so old. I'm excited because its a great time for me to "grow up" while I have time to explore what all these things are meant to be. It's just...weird. Having to do them, and provide for myself. We'll see how long this will last.
I bought pasta that should last me for the week, and my dad taught me a few recipes that I can put together. BUT while I'm free I guess I'LL BUY SNACKS! I know it's very irresponsible of me, but when I have the money...WHY NOT?! I feel like one of those little kids who can now buy whatever I want. (Don't worry Mom and Dad, I'm sure I'll get bored of this after a week and spend my money on real food...i think)
I'll keep you guys updated on how living on my own aka cooking, cleaning, and what not goes!
Whoohoo! The weekend! Parttaaayy!! ...or not.
Yup! Just like what my title says, it's been a very anti-climactic weekend. I think the plus side was that I got to skype with Daddy a lot!
but otherwise than that, I stayed in bed until...10pm on Friday and Saturday. What did I do? I rested, I read, and I watched Nikita! Well now I finished Nikita Season 2 so I have to find something new to watch but it's been a good run so far.
On Friday after staying in bed for so long, Torge (who has been kinda sick) decided that he was hungry at 11pm. What's the best medication for a sick person, besides two beers and pizza? (Which he had the day before when he was REALLY sick)...KFC! I thought it would be delicious, so I gathered the troops and we headed out!
From Left to right there's Kathi (Austrian Roomate), Torge (German Roomate), Sebastian (Kathi's random Columbian friend), and ME!
I made them take another picture inside KFC because I wanted to show you guys Torge's blonde hair haha.
Then we headed home and I went back to my lovely bed. I ended up going grocery shopping on Saturday and made pasta. I realized that it's weird to be completely on your own. (You can read more about that experience here)
Back to my bed I went, after all the pasta was gone. It wasn't until 10PM when we headed out to pick up Hugo, one of Kathi's best friends from the bus stop and headed up the Gellert mountain!
I want to post more pictures, but I just looked at them, and they look kinda lame because they aren't as pretty as it is up there.
Now Sunday I decided to wake up a bit earlier...at 9 am but then I ignored my alarm clock and slept in till 11:30am. Sigh, I realized a weakness I have is that if I don't have anything that I must do, I won't get out of bed until 11 and I'm ALWAYS tired. But if I have something to do, then I'm fine and can be up by 8 or 9 am. Sigh...oh wells! I guess its something that I can improve on!
Kathi and I decided to cook and make Calzones! When we went outside it was like a winter wonderland!
Then we came home after buying the correct ingredients and started cooking! Mmm Mm Mm...it was yummy! It was pretty much a huge dumpling with melted cheese, chicken, and zucchini in it.
Then we baked it and then made little ones!
It was fun, and now I'm just going to deal with this stupid class situation! AHHH! Oh wells I guess that's life.
