time for a marathon of games | hunter&mason

So, the council had drugged them for the past week. Well, that made sense. A lot more than it probably should have considering they drugged them. Hunter was just relieved to have some sort of explanation for his feelings for Tanner, and to have the guilt that was almost constantly clutching at his chest was gone. There was nothing to worry about, though he felt as if he owed Gavin some sort of explanation. He would worry about that later, right then he had to focus on the fact Mason was coming over for their game show marathon. Actually, the mere thought of marathoning Family Feud got him excited because okay, the show was pretty awesome. Addictive, too. But mainly awesome, and he was looking for something different to watch consecutively - there was only so many times he could watch all of the seasons of Criminal Minds over again before it was pretty much mandatory to take a break at some point and switch things up. He even had some cookies leftover from his baking spree for Mateo's birthday, making those a necessity since he found out Mason hadn't had them in a while.

The twenty two year old couldn't shake the fact that Mason was the one who was in love with him. To be honest, he hadn't picked up on it at all. That was always his thing, he could never really tell when someone liked him or anything until like, the most random moment after the dumbest things. Yeah, Mason really gave him no sort of indication. It peeked his curiosity however, wondering how he would be now that the potion had worn off. He pursed his lips at the thought, really hoping that it wasn't so drastic and that things wouldn't be weird. Because honestly, Hunter didn't hold it against him at all. Actually, he could easily forget it if Mason wanted him to. He wanted to forget how his feelings for Tanner, so he understood that feeling. He put the cookies on a plate and set them down on the coffee table in front of the couch, his laptop set up next to it except he went to turn the television on. He knew there were always a few episodes on there, the laptop was there for when those were over and they wanted to watch more. Taking a seat on the couch, he waited patiently for Mason to show up.

I'm pretty sure it's inhumane to live like this.

But it totally is mooching. Mmm, I don’t trust nice people. It’s always fishy that the want to help people all the time. That’s what all the crazies tell their victims, haven’t you seen enough horror films? Oh, Well, I have no idea what I’m supposed to ask… Where are you from?

Nice meeting you too. Well, it’s fine here, actually. I mean, aside from the awful living space, it’s not too bad.

It just sounds like a waste of food if you can’t eat it all before it goes bad. But at least you’ve got a plan for afterwards, I guess.

I have a feeling it's not going to go to waste, especially when it comes to Mateo. He was pretty adamant about having a plan for afterwards. It's my job to make sure he doesn't gain three hundred pounds or something.

No, I'm just giving him what he asked for. I wasn't just going to have him list what he wanted and not do anything about it. It's all good though, we're starting our running/training as soon as all the food's gone.

How do you need cookies in an emergency? Well, I mean, I didn’t exactly have an easy access to them and I’m not the biggest baker, so.

They're just like, an extra couple cookies. You always gotta bake extra, just in case. Well, if you ever want any, you're more than welcome to come to me. I enjoy baking, probably a lot more than I should. But I just baked five different cakes, three dozen brownies and a batch of cookies for Mateo for his birthday. So, really, if you ever want any don't hesitate to ask.

I guess. It’d probably get complicated with the whole funeral thing and what to do with what little stuff I’ve got. I don’t even know what the policy would be with people dying here would be, but, I mean, hopefully no one’s going to have to find out anyway. Wait, homemade, seriously? I think you’ve been holding out on me. I don’t think I’ve ever actually even had real homemade cookies. Not in, like, ten years, at least.

... I actually never really thought about that, actually. That's a good question, but yeah, I don't want to find out. I really, really don't. Yes, homemade. That's the only kind I ever make. One thing you should know about me, Mason: I always have cookies. I'm not even kidding, I really do. At all times, even in case of emergencies. They're kind of my favorite food. Okay, okay. I'm definitely giving you cookies when you come over on Saturday. Wow, I can't believe you haven't had them in that long, holy crap.

Mason wasn’t an asshole to Hunter. He was pretty sure he hadn’t been since they were talking and it weirded Mason out. He was a snarky, sarcastic jerk. That’s what he tried to be and that’s usually what he succeeded in being. But it was just… Hard with Hunter for some reason. He didn’t want to be mean or push him away. Even though he knew there was nowhere this could actually go. Hunter was with Gavin and even if Mason thought he could steal Hunter away or that he was better than Gavin, he couldn’t do that to Hunter. He couldn’t drop his baggage and shit on Hunter’s unsuspecting doorstep when he seemed happy with Gavin. Don’t get him wrong, he wanted him. A lot. And got really jealous and upset when he thought about him with Gavin or saw them being obnoxiously cutesy together. But, he was… Realistic. He guessed.

He shook the thoughts away because, yeah, okay. This wasn’t going to go anywhere. But, he could enjoy it while it lasted. He could enjoy how Hunter made him feel right now and enjoy that smile focused on him. And, okay. Maybe he got a surge of satisfaction when Hunter talked about how he hadn’t talked to Gavin all day. But he was selfish and damnit, he was just going to enjoy having Hunter to himself right now and he wasn’t going to apologize for that. He didn’t trust anything he’d say in that moment though and just nodded with a tight smile. Well, okay, that was a lie. He still had to say /something/. He was still him. ”That’s a shame.” There, see, that wasn’t so bad, right? He could have said worse.

He nodded along when Hunter mentioned not drinking and was actually a little relieved. It was hard enough controlling himself right now sober. He really didn’t trust himself under the influence. He took the can with a smile. ”This is totally fine,” he reassured with a nod, taking a sip of the soda as if to prove his point. He leaned back against the back of a couch and his eyebrows shot up at the question, making him blink a few times like a deer in the headlights and his mind go blank.

Well, that was a loaded question if he’d heard one. He was supposed to make himself sound interesting, right? Not depressing or someone who needed to be pitied. He cleared his throat a little, taking a sip of his drink to kill time before shrugging nonchalantly. ”I’m also a fan of classic Disney movies?” he offered with a light, almost forced laugh. He reached up to rub the back of his neck nervously. ”I don’t know, man. Does saying I’m from Seattle count?”

The mention of Gavin had actually brought a pang of guilt to his chest, immediately shaking it off. He barely even knew this other person, there was no way anything was going to happen. He just needed to shake it off, pretend like the feelings weren't there and move on. Tanner didn't even know his name, or at least he didn't think he did. Maybe he could try and change that in the near future, but at the same time, he couldn't because of Gavin. God, he was so conflicted. And it really wasn't the time to think about the anyways, not with Mason standing in his apartment. There was going to be no more thinking about Gavin, or anything like that. He just nodded when he said that was a shame, opting to continue with the not thinking about his boyfriend while Mason was there. There was plenty of other time the next day to worry about it. When the other male took the soda he smiled, thankful that he wasn't too upset about the lack of alcohol in the apartment. Hunter hadn't had a drink since high school, and he really didn't plan on it any time soon.

"If you want anything else, just help yourself," He repeated again even though he was sure Mason got the message, though he was more so referring to literally anything else rather than just drinks specifically. Like he had told him before however, there really wasn't much there unless he was interested in textbooks and a lifetime supply of sugar glider toys. The smile sort of faltered for a brief moment, not missing the look on his face after he asked him to say something about himself. Hunter was worried he had offended Mason, his teeth moving to nervously chew on his lower lip as he waited for him to say something, anything. He really hoped it wasn't something he said because he would feel extremely terrible about it. He hadn't even realized he was holding his breath until he said something, his smile returning almost immediately as he nodded his head. "That definitely counts, yeah." He reassured him with yet another smile, taking another sip from the can in his hand.

"I liked Seattle when I was there," He commented, remembering the visit from his travels as soon as Mason brought up the city. "Classic Disney movies? You can never go wrong with those. I've seen pretty much all of them, and know most of the songs," He had two younger sisters to thank for that, though it was definitely mostly Daniela's doing than Riley's. He figured at that point that he probably should do the same and tell Mason something about himself. He hopped up onto the counter, legs swinging slightly, "I'm from Dallas." That seemed like a good place to start, especially since the other male had done the same. "Uh," He couldn't figure out why he was struggling with something else to say until he finally thought of something, his mouth forming an 'o' when he realized it and then a smile. "I love Criminal Minds, and pretty much any kind of crime show, but mostly Criminal Minds. I've seen pretty much every single episode three times." He was actually pretty proud of that, "And cooking shows are my guilty pleasure."

That’d sort of put a crink in the whole Family Fued marathon plan. I probably will, yeah. Wouldn’t hurt. And yeah, totally. Me too.

It really, really would and we can't have that, no way. But, you know, it would kind of suck if that happened, with or without the Family Feud marathon. And you know you're always welcome over here, especially if you need sugar. I pretty much always have cookies on stock. Homemade, too. Awesome.

Uh, yeah. It’s sort of the middle of the night and I still live in Doctorow. So.. Unless you want to hear tomorrow about me getting stabbed, that’s probably not my best bet. Dude, seriously? Yeah, no, I’m definitely showing up a lot.
