The Hunters Series

"The Hunters" is a series of urban supernatural books created by Briana Lawrence (brichibi) and Jessica Walsh (snowtigra). The stories are set in modern day Minneapolis/St. Paul and focus on a group of individuals known as "Hunters" whose job is to protect our world from the likes of demons and other creatures who wish to do harm to us all. As the stories progress, more characters are introduced, the relationship between humans and demons change, and the very definition of what it means to be "human" is put into question. Please enjoy!

Yep, starting this month you’ll likely find us at at least one convention each month until close to the end of the year.  Yes, we are insane.  So wanna know where to find us?  Here’s our schedule for the next two months!  Also, if there’s any other cons you think we should check out either this year or next, let me know!

Anime Milwaukee (WI) - March 11-13, we’ll have a table in Artist Alley! Shuto Con (MI) - March 18-20, we won’t have a table, but if you’d like to purchase something message us and we’ll set something up. Salt Lake City Comicon (UT) - March 24-26, we’re guests and we’ll have a table!

No Brand Con (WI) - April 15-17, we’re guests and we’ll have a table! Anime Detour (MN) - April 22-24, we’re featured artists and we’ll have a table!

Ty prepares for the holiday season by kicking out his cheating boyfriend and consoling himself with chocolate and cold Chinese food. Unfortunately, rent and bills force him to grab a pair of red-and-white tights and pretend to be in the holiday spirit as a mall elf. Thankfully, there’s a janitor who’s too handsome for the part of a mop pusher to help distract him.

Nikolas the Janitor sweeps Ty off his feet with his smile and generous spirit. Ty wishes he could fall in love as easily as a romantic comedy, but his ex still holds a piece of his heart. Ty wants to accept Nikolas as his new secret Santa, but he might be doomed to pine after his ex all Christmas long.

Writing and reading fanfiction isn’t just something you do; it’s a way of thinking critically about the media you consume, of being aware of all the implicit assumptions that a canonical work carries with it, and of considering the possibility that those assumptions might not be the only way things have to be.

At this late date, fanfiction has become wildly more biodiverse that the canonical works that it springs from. It encompasses male pregnancy, centaurification, body swapping, apocalypses, reincarnation, and every sexual fetish, kink, combination, position, and inversion you can imagine and probably a lot more that you could but would probably prefer not to. It breaks down walls between genders and genres and races and canons and bodies and species and past and future and conscious and unconscious and fiction and reality. Culturally speaking, this work used to be the job of the avant garde, but in many ways fanfiction has stepped in to take that role. If the mainstream has been slow to honor it, well, that’s usually the fate of aesthetic revolutions. Fanfiction is the madwoman in mainstream culture’s attic, but the attic won’t contain it forever.

Dumbledore, notorious for giving second chances Dumbledore, let Sirius rot in Azkaban for twelve years. 

He must have known Sirius well due to his time in the Order, he must have known what James meant to Sirius. Dumbledore was a member of the freaking Wizengamot yet he didn’t fight the Ministry’s horrifying trial-optional policy. 

This is a man who took back Death Eater!Snape at his word, shielded him from prison, and employed him at a school for children. 

But he didn’t have a use for Sirius, so he didn’t care about him.

I got 99 problems with Dumbledore and his treatment of Sirius Black accounts for like 64 of them.

To be honest, Albus Dumbledore is one of the most disturbing, terrifying characters I’ve ever found in a book, because he thought he was a good guy and so did everyone else and the books don’t really challenge it either (given that Harry forgives him for everything he did), but when you look between the lines he was profoundly, profoundly immoral and unethical.

A couple of months ago, I was talking about HP characters with a friend, and he said that Dumbledore was one of his least favorite characters of all time.

Naturally, this took me back a bit since he’s one of the heroes of the series, misguided as he was at times. Still, I was curious and asked my friend why he hated him. His answer still strikes a chord with me.

"There is never, ever a reason to leave a child in an abusive home. Never."

As a writer I really like this, because I like characters who seem good, like really good, and then if you read between the lines and peal away the layers you realize… hmmm… and what’s even more interesting is that these characters really, really do feel like they’re doing good, and so does everyone else around them, and they might do something once or twice that’s questionable but they’re SO GOOD the others are like, “Ah well… you probably had good reason,” and… sure, maybe they did, but if you stop and think it’s like, “… well… I mean, how far is too far in the name of good?”
