To my mom...
I would give my gifts to my mom. Yes it’s cheesy but my mom deserves something..anything… because she is one of the strongest people I know.
Being the youngest of 6 she had a lot to live up too. Her father was an owner of an antique store, while being a town celebrity. Her mother was strong and beautiful. Everyone looked up to her mother. Unfortunately, she lost her father at the age of 9. All the while her mother found out she has heart disease. So my mother decided to take care of her mom while still maintaining school, homework, and a social life. Her oldest sister decided to come back home to help her too.
Soon she was graduated and ready to live her life. She met a man and decided to have my oldest sister. This man however, wasn’t what my mother thought he was. He was rude and hurt my mom and didn’t even try to care for my sister (Elani) so my mom left him.
She was a single mother trying to find her way in the world. Then she found another man (Shorty) who would change everything. Shorty enjoyed helping my mom take care of Elani and loved my mom. So they had my older brother Trenton together. They moved into a little trailer house and started a family of their own. My mom felt happy again and decided to get a local job. So she worked at the local truck stop while Dad worked at a place 25 miles away. They managed their jobs while still taking care of 6 year old Elani and 2 year old Trenton. Their life was smooth and awesome nothing could ruin the pattern. Until one day out popped me! They named me Anna and everyone they knew wanted to see little baby me. Even my Grandma (mom’s mom) she got to hold me one time before she left this earth.
So my mom and dad thought it was a good idea to finally get married.
A Happy life, she was married to the man of her dreams and had three beautiful children. In 2008 She got an even better job at a higher paying place. She worked there for almost a year and a half until she got what the doctors thought was Swine Flu. She had to leave her job because she progressively got more sick day by day.
2010 Thanksgiving day… My mom was feeling better and ready for whatever. We went to her side of the family for thanksgiving and feasted! Trenton and I spent the night over at our cousins house so mom didn’t have to take care of us. When we came home on Black Friday mom didn’t look too well. She persisted it was fine and proceed to get things ready for Christmas. It was around 11 that night when something went wrong. She was on the kitchen floor clenching her chest in pain crying. I was rubbing her back telling her it’s ok. My brother tried calling dad so he could come help since he’s an EMT. But that night it was jam packed at his job and he couldn’t get to the phone. My brother was on the verge of calling the ambulance to get her and she pleaded not to and he complied. She got up from the ground and made it to her chair. She felt a little better and forced me to bed. My brother was still trying to call dad until he answered. Trenton told him what was happening and dad rushed home. My moms pain was coming back and she was in tears. My dad grabbed her and lifted her from the chair so he could bring her to the car. She stood up and told my dad “It hurts so much I just want to sleep.” When she blacked out onto the floor and had a seizure. My dad rushed her to the hospital. The closet hospital was 20 minutes away and the ER was packed. My mom lost her heartbeat and was put on the floor and given CPR by my dad and doctors. They took her into emergency surgery and found a 99% blockage in her heart.
Trenton and I were home and Elani was off doing something with her friends when we received a call from my dad. “Hey you two are gonna stay at your cousins again… Ok? Don’t be stupid and stay safe.. Mom is ok so don’t worry about her, now go get your stuff ready. I love you guys.”
Everything seemed unreal. Within a week my mom came home and looked different. Trenton, Elani, and I had to help mom a lot more. She was never going to be herself again. And we will forever be in debt but I’m happy she is here.
During the years of 2010-2015 we had visits to the hospital and the doctors. My mom has heart disease, asthma, she is allergic to animal fur, pollen, and perfumes. We had to be gentle to my mom so we couldn’t set off anything. The thing that never left her was her sense of humor. Even at the most hectic of times she seemed to light up the room with her witty comments. I loved that about my mom, I still love that about my mom. I love seeing her happy.
I knew I wanted to keep my mom happy so when I went to junior high I decided to do projects to help people. 7th grade year Was on Tornado safety, 8th grade year was on Literacy, And my freshman year of high school it was on Civics education. I kept doing what I can to please my mom. I hug her I tell her I love her and tell her she means everything to me. I’m happy to call Suzanne H. my mom.
So this long story is why I think my mom deserves the nomination. But I honestly believe she deserves the world.
