duck's no family song makes me so mentally ill. he says he doesn't want to be in a family and he insists he's fine on his own all alone but throughout the entire segment he's almost never shown having fun alone. he has fun with clones of himself which represent having fun alone. he can't conceptualize being happy actually being alone so he has to pretend it's just another kind of social interaction. and the whole segment is filmed with this grainy nostalgic home movie-esque filter over it and in the beginning when he first sings "i don't even want to be in a family" the clip that plays shows red guy and yellow guy disappearing from their seats at the table leaving him alone... implying that he really does think of them as his family... and the fact that we've seen other red guys and other members of yellow guy's species (roy) but we have never ever seen another duck... and so duck views lillie and todney's teachings with annoyance and skepticism partly because they represent what he doesn't have. red guy and yellow guy want families because their families/species have both shunned them in the past, but duck has nothing, no one, to miss. "everybody's talking about their family, but my family is made of just me... me... me." siiiiigh. like duck is a fussy cynical asshole but underneath that there's a genuine desire for connection and belonging just like the other two. he just hides it better.
