When the war in Gaza began, this family's plan was clear: to escape the violence and build a future in safety, out of harm's reach. But despite tireless efforts, they have only raised €1,980 of the €30,000 needed to evacuate their family. With the cost of evacuating ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL being approximately €5,000, the amount raised so far isn’t even enough for one person to leave the war zone, let alone six.

Unable to escape, Hossam and Hanan adjusted their plan to something as simple—and devastating—as building a single room on the ruins of their former home. But even that has proved impossible. Now, Hossam and Hanan are forced to live in a tattered tent with their children (the youngest of whom is an infant), exposed to bitter cold, vermin, and constant danger. They are often forced to go to sleep hungry due to the skyrocketing prices of food that make even the most basic of necessities practically unaffordable.

Their reality in which they are forced to live is completely inhumane: Habiba, their four-month-old daughter, cries for hours because they can’t afford milk to feed her. Their young son was recently attacked by rats while the family tried to sleep in their makeshift shelter.

This is the daily struggle this precious family faces—one of survival, with no clear end in sight.

To make matters worse, Hossam and Hanan's voices are being systematically silenced. Every time they attempt to raise awareness of their plight, their social media accounts are banned, their posts deleted, and their pleas erased.

As of writing this post, Tumblr has deleted Hossam and Hanan's blogs yet again. Now unable to share their story here themselves, we are continuing to post on their behalf, so their voices can still be heard, uninterrupted by censorship.

NO ONE should be forced to stay in a war zone because they lack the means to pay fees to escape. This family deserves more than this desperate fight just to survive another day. They deserve the chance to rebuild, to dream, and to live with dignity.

With their escape seemingly slipping out of reach, they shifted their dream to something as simple—and heartbreaking—as building a single room atop the ruins of their home. But even that plan has proved impossible.

I hope you are well, stay away from wars, and live in peace always. I am Hossam Al-Qazzaz, and we are now living in famine in every sense of the word. We have lost a lot of weight and strength, but we are still struggling to survive, but what hurts us most is our four children who wake up hungry and go to bed hungry, and what makes them happy now is seeing a piece of bread to eat. He eats. Imagine that they do not think about the studies they left, nor about the game they buy and play with. All they think about is food, and what hurts me the most is my daughter.
