There is no photos or videos from "DHTR8" today. So let us do some "Drama-Talk".
I browsed "Mydramalist - The Legend Of Rosy Clouds" yesterday. Some of the active participants criticise Deng Wei's drama-characters, Lou Qi Yan and Zheng Shi. Saying ZS is weak. LQY is crazy.

BUT, I WANT To CLARIFY that we like any role played by Deng Wei. Because Deng Wei brings a different dimension to any drama-character he plays.
In "The Legend Of Rosy Clouds", his scenes are scattered. Interspersed within the main plot. A few seconds before the ending. Or a few minutes at the beginning. Can you all imagine how difficult it must have been for him ?
But the character's underlying essence remains consistent throughout the story. This was not carried by a single highlight scene. But by a complete and unified performance logic that filled those thin shots.
Deng Wei may not be the male lead. Neither is he the Lord of the 9-Cities Nation. But he carries himself with more Grace and Regality than the Lord himself.
From his very first appearance, he established a unique system of body language and expressions for his character. Seamlessly integrating them throughout.
His character is bound by family responsibilities from childhood. Suppressing his true self year after year. The restraint hidden in his posture is not something he is acting for the audience. It is something etched into the character's very being, over time.
The scene where he falls from the building in his red and black wedding attire is the ultimate culmination of this masterful use of his eyes. (Watch the video below). Dressed in red and black robes, he represents a desperate gamble for love.
Knowing he ultimately cannot keep the female lead, he does not cling on fiercely. The love in his eyes slowly fades. Leaving only relief and sorrow.
His calm and gentle tone signifies respecting her freedom.
Before leaping, his eyes glazed over. Letting go of all obsessions and shackles. Gathering all the regrets, stubbornness, and tenderness he had longed for. But never attained, into that single pause.
IT DOES NOT MATTER if the Script is Weak or Silly. It is Deng Wei's interpretation that makes the difference.
He gives Dignity and Soul to his drama-characters, the way no other actor can.
THAT IS THE HALLMARK OF A GREAT ACTOR. That is why we love him.
