though the mission at hand had been the wolverine’s main focus, she couldn’t help but notice how good it felt to be back in the swing of things alongside julián. they had always been a great team, working together against anything that came their way. though there was a small voice that resided in the very back of laura’s mind that made her painfully aware of the fact that now that things with julián were a lot more serious, it meant the possibility of one of them getting harmed, or worse, would hurt like hell. laura’s waving the thoughts aside when he assigns her the simple task of opening the doors to the facility. she then watches as he lifts into the air, a slight nod from her end as he motions toward the secured doors to the building. she plunges forth animalistically, battle cry exiting her lungs, her claws retracted and nearly shredding apart the deadbolts that secured the doors shut. when the more substantial parts of the locking mechanism were dismantled, dark hues search over her shoulder to meet a set of glowing green ones. the forcefield buys her enough time to step into the facility and take in her surroundings though given the high security, laura doesn’t think they have much time.
there’s a row of doors in the hall she enters, and already her ears could pick up the sound of footsteps coming from the floor above them. laura moves frantically between each door, peering through the small windows to see if they’d have any luck finding the facilities stock of the hope serum. so far, all she discovered were empty examination rooms. there’s a hint of familiarity that sparks in the back of laura’s mind when she sees these rooms, very familiar to the same ones of the facility she called home up until she was a teenager. this thought, if anything, acts as even more of a reason to destroy the hope serum and give young and terrified mutants a reason not to be. the final door she’s inspecting has several stacks of pallets with big and bright red labels that read: CAUTION - NARCOTIC TRANSPORT. this has the wolverine acting fast, moving back to the doors she tore through only moments ago to call for julián. “you destroy the stock, they have a bulk shipment of it in the very last room on the left.” she can hear the guards growing closer, not needing to turn her head to know they’d be in the hall at any second. “i’ll keep them busy.” a few beats pass before laura’s turning on her heel once more only to be faced with a group of armed men, guns drawn. her claws are retracted once more before she’s sliding onto her knees, fists burying the adamantium claws in the legs of the guards, watching them fall to the ground. she continues to punch through the wave of guards, claws dismantling their weapons in hopes of buying her and juliàn more time.
bullets and darts are pelting the forcefield as the guards try to push past his forcefield, but julian remains cemented in place, exerting equal force to keep them at bay. he’d too focused on keeping the forcefield stable that he no longer knows where laura is or where she’d gone, a thought which is prominent amongst his other worries. julian spared a glance behind him, catching sight of flash of claws and raven hair tearing through doors, and though to other it might seem frightening, to julian its relief. with a grunt, julian turned back towards the guards he’d been holding off and made a violent shoving motion, a motion which sent the guards flying far as his forcefield dissipated. with what little window of time he had left before they get back up, he’s sprinting into the compound, sending any guard that he sees flying back into the metallic walls. he meets laura halfway, nodding as she fed him information and instructions before the sound of footsteps draw near. “i won’t take long,” he said, already starting towards the room she’d indicated. crates line almost every inch of the room, neatly packaged and arranged in way that indicated what julian seemed to already know; they were making the serum at a fast rate. it’s enough to feed his anger, to weaponize it as his hands and eyes are glowing green. the room trembled as he began collapsing the crates, and glass littered the floor as the containers exploded, the contents within it seeping to the ground. he’s working as fast as he can while simultaneously making sure he’s getting every single crate, but more and more guards are spilling into the hall, and he can’t destroy and defend himself at the same time. “laura!” he called out, a hand flying out to erect another forcefield as bullets started raining down. “a little help would be—” he gritted his teeth, trying to hold back the bullets while also finishing destroying the crates that are left. the last of the crates exploded, shattering into tiny fragments that he beckoned forward, finally turning his attention fully to the remaining men making ground. the shards go flying all at once, striking the guards and clearing a path for the two. “we have to find the labs, we can’t leave without destroying it,” he said, his chest rising and falling from exerting so much force. he’s aware that they’re running out of time, but if they leave without finding the labs, then they’ll only replace what julian had just destroyed. “come on, it has to be somewhere on the second floor.”
