Unexpected Savior || Dinah & Cletus
onlyhvmcn:
The last thing Cletus ever wanted to do was lie to Dinah, but he was doing it for her protection. Frankly, he would rather no one know that he was Carnage because his handiwork was seen all over the news; he was a monster, period. But the worse part of it all was that Cletus genuinely saw no real wrong in what Carnage was doing and that was even worse. Unfortunately, Cletus always knew there was a dark, twisted, fucked up side to him that really nobody knew about, not even Dinah. He really didn’t care if others saw it or feared him, but Dinah he would protect from that at all costs. Someone like her, didn’t deserve to see all the darkness that was hidden within Cletus. He really didn’t see why she kept trying so hard to get him to confess, because he wasn’t going to; he decided sticking to his story of not knowing what she was talking about was best, denial was always best. Although he knew Dinah was smart and she knew him too well, she was the last person he could genuinely lie to without her noticing. It seemed she grew tired of his denial though, because she walked right past him upset and even though Cletus tried to pull her back he couldn’t.”Where are you going, Dinah?!” he questioned loudly, but instead he got the closing door as his answer. “Ahhh, shit!” he groaned and immediately took off to go follow her, he knew this couldn’t be good.
Cletus continued calling after her but still all she did was run and eventually they found their way on the roof of his building, “Dinah, stop this! You’re being ridiculous, let’s just go back inside and talk..” he trailed off as soon as he saw her stand on the ledge, a small gasp escaping him, “D-Dinah, what are you doing?” his focus was all on her, focusing on every step, breath and move she was making. “Don’t you fucking do this Dinah, this is stupid!” a low growl escaped him, but that wasn’t Cletus anymore, that was Carnage. And just like that Dinah let herself fall from the edge and Carnage immediately made haste and followed her fall. It didn’t take long and before she could even reach the third floor down, Carnage caught her with an almost web like material keeping them attached to the roof and he growled at the young woman now completely in his grasp, “Is THIS what you wanted, tiny human?! To see the true monster that your poor friend truly is?” the fact they were still hanging in mid-air not seeming to bother him at all; but it was obvious they both knew Carnage had no plans on letting her fall. But Carnage and Dinah were finally face to face, the closest any human had ever been to him without becoming food for him.
-----
It was all a blur to Dinah. You would call her crazy for not being scared to fall despite her past being nearly frightened of everything, but she knew Cletus would catch her. He always did. That man is and will always be her safety net. As she kept her eyes closed with her heart in her throat Dinah felt it fall into her stomach when she found herself no longer falling. Slowly opening her eyes the Scientist looks up to see her assumptions were correct; that brain of her’s was right once again. From following the symbiotes pattern and how they acted towards humans, Dinah knew she wouldn’t be food to Carnage or else she would already been eaten. There were so many things Dinah wanted to say and assure the symbiote that Cletus was no monster--not to her. But no words wanted to come out. All Dinah could do was lay there in his web in astonishment. The color of Carnage almost reminded Dinah of Cletus’s ginger hair, just more darker; the shade of blood. The web she was entrapped in was the same color though it also almost looked all black. “I...I’m not scared.” was all the Scientist could muster up to Carnage. Dinah really wasn’t even despite hanging in the air with the busy streets of San Francisco underneath her.
When being brought back onto the roof Dinah became thankful to have her feet on the ground and not on the sidewalk like a bug is to a windshield. Turning around Dinah finds herself face to face with Carnage once again. Saying nothing and doing something that could get anyone else killed, Dinah embraces the monster. In a way it was parallel to Persephone hugging Hades. It was the only way Dinah knew she could show she wasn’t scared of Carnage. There is a mount of evidence on TV that she should be running in a different direction and screaming at the top of her longs, but she wasn’t. “Not all monsters do monstrous things, Carnage.” she mumbled. “Cletus never was one to me.” Dinah had heard the stories of the darkness that resided in her best friend and guess what? The Scientist didn’t care. She saw herself as a light to his darkness and at times believed if it wasn’t for her, Cletus would probably be in a jail cell rotting away. Dinah felt pretty sure if she said she had hugged Carnage that there will be a place for her in the Asylum or a jail cell.
Now knowing the truth about this Dinah knew she should never reveal about her decoding the genetic codes to both Carnage and Venom. If she were to place money on it, if they learned the truth--that DNA could lead back to Cletus and then Dinah would truly become al alone in this sick twisted world.
