It hits Gordon like a bloodthirster’s fist, he audibly gasps and covers his mouth at the mention of his death… He’d never heard of going back in time, that just wasn’t a thing, but disjointed passage through time between dimensions was… He suddenly feels light and unsteady, hardly even processes the rest of what he was saying… Oh God… Oh No… He can’t even cry at first, he grips Riot’s mane like a lifeline to keep from falling out of the saddle as he wheezes a breath he didn’t know was stuck, the caniquus tenses and looks back, nickering worriedly… The rat blinks several times. And slowly refocuses on this not-Gluttony’s face with paled ears… Those weren’t his boy’s eyes…
“You… this can’t be- it can’t- you… You died?..”
He whispers the word as if it could hear him…
“I let you die?..”
"Every Vice dies eventually, rat king. Whether or not the Gluttony YOU knew died, I 'ave no way of knowin'."
Unlike the Gluttony of Gordon's memories, this Gluttony is not emotionally equipped to help Gordon with his current breakdown that was coming to a head.
"It can't be helped. And besides. He, or I, would outlive ya anyway. If 'e died, then it's more than likely he bit off more than he could chew."
"Figuratively, and literally."
Such had been the common curse of Gluttonies before him. A good lot of them were brainless, ravenous hunger. It made them a danger, but equally easy to deal with, or so he was told by his siblings and the Virtues. He was among the first of the truly intelligent Gluttonies. Combined with his battle knowledge, it made him even more threatening.
"Mourn if you must, but at least do it ahhh... far over there. Tears are bothersome."
It hits Gordon like a bloodthirster’s fist, he visibly flinches, putting a hand over his mouth and squeaking a whimper at the mention of the vice’s death. But that sliver of hope they went back in time instead of forward, he clings to it like a lifeline. “Yes! Yes that has to have been it, Riot’s just a puppy, still learning!”
“That… Has to be it… You’re much older than my Gluttony was…” He leans on Riot’s neck for support and takes a few deep breaths. He refuses to accept the other possibilities. This is the most outlandish, but the only one he can accept… “The one I know is my best friend.” He clarifies. “We try to be there for each other.”
"Y' best friend? Is that what we're callin' it? BAHAH!" If anything was outlandish, it had to be that. What mortal made friends with a demon just to be pals?? You contacted a demon if you wanted to make DEALS. Short-term prosperity for your people at the cost of your soul!
"That's rather pointless, innit? Puttin' y' life on the line for a feast machine that'll outlive ya some day?"
That. Is the opposite of comforting.
“What?..”
Oh no. Oh no oh no oh nonononononono that sounded so so so bad… “A different… time?.. there’s not- there can’t be- there’s only one?.. Are you positive? Maybe- maybe you did forget, I only knew you for a couple years, you were much much younger?..” His heart rate is starting to climb. Being forgotten and jogging his memory is one thing. This implies something much much worse.
"Suggesting I must have a shit memory's rather bold of you, but I'll forgive it fo' this misunderstanding."
The older Vice crosses his arms.
"Y' probably wouldn't be aware of it, but we Vice reincarnate every so often. Th' cause being forces out of our control, usually. A Vice can continue to live and thrive as long as it wants, but ultimately somethin' will come along and snuff 'em out. But there's only ever one of that specific Trait living at a time."
He pauses, bringing one of the extra hands to his chin once more.
"You're... different. From the usual monarchs I see. Similar get-up, but more... refined. I don't know how to describe it, but its ahead of the culture of designs you would see around here.
If I'm deducing correctly... Perhaps it's that the one you know is after my lifetime.
Or. Maybe you've crossed timelines completely. And I've never died in this one. Either way, you're very, very lost. Keheh.~"

The rat squints, a bit jarred out of their near stupor, and swivels his ears back. “What?.. No- Nono that’s not right- I…” It looked like him. Sounded like him. “But how?… I…” D E E P concern starts to darken the lines in his face. “But I know you!..” what. Happened. To. Glutt?.. “Are there multiple of you or?..”
Or did decades pass between worlds. Or centuries… And Glutt forgot about him?..
Riot seems to be having similar concerns, tentative with reaching her nose out, pinning her ears and blowing a warning as she sniffs. Something isn’t quite right. It’s Gluttony. But it’s not… She will ALLOW pets with very intense eye contact.
This guy KNOWS him?? But he's never seen this rat in his entire life! Confusion slowly creases on his face as he tries to understand what the hell this king guy is babbling about. The hand he outstretched for Riot is brought to his chin in thought.
"Mh... I'd know a guy named 'Gordon' if I met one. My memory isn't THAT bad. I remember prey, and I remember potential beneficial parties. Unless... Aaahh." The Vice chuckles. Suddenly, this interaction became much, much more interesting.
"You know a different Gluttony of a different time."
What can i say, I’m kind of a big dill.
"This is it. This is where I fuckin' lose it."
"CUZ' O' FUCKERS LIKE YOU!!!!"

Hey Glutt, I must say that I a-peach-iate you being back
"Oooohhh I did not miss you lot."
There’s a momentary pause as the rat’s eyebrows raise slightly. His ears perk. He’s processing. Ohhhhhh…
The demon’s nose would tell him a few things. No definitive gender, young, injured… And that this oversized rat just liked what they heard very very much. It could also be deduced by the tinting of the hairless ears…
“King Gordon, of the Retchen… I assure you the pleasure is all mine… Yourself, stranger? Do you know a guy named Gluttony?.. Looks a lot like you…”
Sounds and smells like it too… But aged like good whiskey…
His steed is curious as well, and impatiently pawing the earth as she obediently stands in place, taking deep sniffs to try and map him back.
"Y' lookin' at 'im." He'd respond flatly. He's never heard of this King. Not his name and not his species, either. He would've noticed a whole kingdom of rats if there was one, so the origins of this fellow remained a mystery to him.
He had to admit, though, he was pretty built for a rat. And well dressed! Greed would have a time sussing out his riches. But alas, his brother is handling matters elsewhere.
He briefly eyes Riot. A curious steed... there's some canine mixed with equine features there. There are none of those in the world either. Not to his knowledge. It doesn't stop him from approaching, though. Taking care not to potentially spook the steed, he raises a claw for Riot to sniff if she pleased.
"Any particular reason you'd be lookin' fo' me? My services aren't exactly for sale."
Suspicious staring.
Then again, his face is only capable of a range between “mild annoyance” and “monstrous rage”, so that’s probably pretty good.
"..."
"Heeere birdie birdie.~"
Do not oblige him-
“Hey!! Matching capes!”
He pulls riot over for this. MATCHING CAPES.
His ear flicks, and the earring jingles. Who's this? Some oversized rat? Some weird oversized rat monarch? A quick sniff of the air doesn't give him much to work off of. Mortal... but there's some demonic tainting there. Of two conflicting flavors, even.
It's interesting, though. He's never seen a mortal creature this big. Or, two mortal creatures that big. They both dwarf him by at least a foot or two. But they were still, in fact, mortal.
The old Vice, after a moment's examination, gives Gordon a toothy smirk. His eyes are voids, giving no indication of where he might be looking, but he does physically turn away from the distant human settlements he had planned to raid just moments ago.
"So we do." He answers, his voice deep and gravelly. There's still a light accent. Just not the 'New Yorker' one Gordon may be used to. "An' who have I got the pleasure of meetin' on this day?"

Gordon tsks, holding Riot’s big bony face to keep her from reaching for his poor scared friend. “She iiiis! She’s just a puppy, she gets excited! You are completely safe, now say hi before you get on, it’s only polite.”
She blows through her nose and swivels her ears, eyes boring straight into the demon. She has her momma’s stare alright, the only thing nice about her posture unless you know her is the wagging fluffy tail.
"Hooookaay then..."
Deep breaths, Gluttony. Although shakey, the Vice steels himself enough to outstretch a hand. The best thing was to have her acquainted with his scent, right? It was usually the first step to friendship with steeds and the like.
"Yousa big girl, eh? Heh... G-gave me a run fo' my money dere fo' a sec. Not... dat I have any."
Yeah, no, those eyes were giving him Runic vibes. Why'd she have to have her mother's eyes of all things-
“We set a good foundation, Jaz and I, so she’s mostly maintained her manners and awareness. But there’s been regression with her concentration. Yeah, she’s still a puppy and I regret not keeping a sibling with her, but I really don’t want him to have his claws in her when she hits adolescence, or teaching her to fight and be aggressive, or hunt. I can’t just get mad at her and force her to not be his friend. She finally has something her size to wrestle with, they follow each other around and she shares all her bones, he’s her favorite thing in the world right now, shiny new friend, he’s like another one of her but just evil… I just REALLY wish I’d have gotten her a different friend early on, he’s teaching her slurs and property damage. When he’s around she has more of a prey drive and doesn’t listen as well, they’ve smashed some furniture playing inside on accident and a whole marble pillar…”
He opens the door to the roof and shimmies out the human sized door. His puppy, who was looking down off the side of the building, jerks her head up upon hearing the door and gallops right for him, breighing a roar, wings open. It’s like a puppy bounding up and making the ‘rooroos’ at you, but she was so darn big it sounded much much meaner.
Gordon puts his hands up as she gets closer, slamming the brakes so hard she hops a few steps. “Hey, hey, hey, down, baby girl! Calm, we are calm.” He tsks, letting her get her sniffs in and petting her muzzle as he pushes her several steps back.
"WAAGGHH-!!"
To say he was caught completely off guard by both sheer size and HOLY HELLS LOUD would be an understatement. He's just happy that his kind can't really produce waste.
The Vice, in the time that Gordon spends shushing the much larger steed, settles for slipping right behind him for protection reasons.
"Fuck me, y' said she was a sweet pea!!"
“Yes, that one! When she was smaller she was a really rough puppy, did a number on my nerves and we had to do so much work desensitizing her to strangers and anything smaller than herself… Which was almost everyone.” He laughs softly, heading up the emergency stairs. Such a small space for him, he has to duck his head… “But she’s over the learning curve and is just the absolute best girl, you’ll love her… Runic lost full custody when she started bringing Riot around the red brothers… But I was too late, we have a problem now.”
"How much does she take after 'em anyway?" He asked, not far behind on the steps.
"I mean, I guess young pups're pretty impressionable. Even across different species, I guess. How bad could it be?"
