FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF (1986) Dir. John Hughes
auggiehq:
Auggie hated that he couldn’t fake a smile better. That he couldn’t push his feelings away like everyone else did. He tired his best too but it never worked the way he wanted to. “S-sad face?” He tired to question it. Tired to act like he didn’t know what he meant. Like he wasn’t clearly upset. “I’m okay,”He lied again this time not being able to look at the other’s face. “J-just..a lot lately but i’m okay i promise..”
“auggie, you look like a kicked puppy,” there was no point in lying, or pretending he didn’t see it. maybe for someone else, someone he didn’t really care much about, taeil would look the other way and pretend he didn’t see it at all, but that wasn’t the case right now. letting his arm drop back to his side, taeil stuffed his hands in his pockets with a curious look as the other refused to meet his gaze. “what is it that’s a lot? ranting makes you feel better, y’know. promise i’ll keep it a secret.”
auggiehq:
Auggie wasn’t normally good with contact. He just never knew when to give it or allow it to happen. So Taeil touching his arm was strange to him but the contact was helping. Even if he normally wasn’t good with it. It did feel nice that a friend was caring about him. Which is why he didn’t move from it. No instead he just tried to push on a smile. “Y-yeah..legoland,” Auggie shrugged a little. “w-we don’t have too..it’s just an um idea.” Auggie looked away for a moment. “Vegas? I’ve never gambled and I don’t drink much.” He told him honestly. “Disney amazing but it’s so packed all the time..”
“if i promise to take you somewhere some day would that put an end to that sad little face?” at this point taeil felt like he couldn’t really ignore it much longer. he doubted he could do much to help -- useless, as always -- but he could always listen. maybe throw hands at the person who’d caused it, if that was the case. he’d rather take dealing with tears than forced happiness, even if he was clueless about emotions half of the time. “you don’t have to try and hide it from me because, uh, you’re kinda doin’ a bad job.” reassuringly, he pats auggie’s shoulder again. “might as well tell me what’s on your mind, huh?”

“Uhh, I dunno maybe…a few months? Maybe closer to a year,” he shrugged as he leads them further into the building, “long enough to collect some shit that’s for sure. I used to have my own apartment but…then everything went to shit. This is better than living on the street I guess. Plus its huge- I feel like I’m always finding a new room or something,” he ended up leading them to his ‘bedroom’, if you could call it that. It must have been somewhere that the factory workers could sleep if they were working a long shift. The room was filled with miscellaneous objects, and the floor was cement but covered by a thick rug. Really- if you didnt know any better, it just looked like a cheap apartment. “This half of the building still has electricity, there was a backup generator in the basement that I fucked around with but I’m not sure why it only works for half.” He gestured to the TV that was hooked up to the wall, “I stole that from my old landlord after he kicked me out. He was a real fucking asshole,”
“love what you’ve done with the place,” he nodded as he continued to glance around, as if he were some middle-aged woman commenting on sharon’s newly installed kitchen, or whatever. only instead of fancy mahogany drawers and slate top surfaces, it was some old stuff in bare bones rooms that tricked the mind into believing it was homey. truly, he was impressed. “wish i coulda got this lucky. but sleeping on people’s couches and overstaying my welcome is basically my trademark at this point. can’t go off brand now.” following closely, taeil trailed behind aspen until he was welcomed into the bedroom area, at which point he did not hesitate to flop down on the bed, body sprawled inelegantly as he let out a soft groan of satisfaction. this was way more comfortable than last night’s cell, that was for sure. “naughty boy. what’d you do to get yourself kicked out?”

Basil shrugged with a small laugh, blushing as they realized they had been caught singing to them self, “you can never be sure with you, you know,” the grabbed the crown from the desk and placed it on top of his head, adjusting it so it was tilted a little, “there! Now you look like a pretty prince,” they laughed again before grabbing their own flower crown that they had put off to the side while working, placing it on their own head, “now we match!”
“now does that make me unpredictable, or too predictable in my unpredictability? food for thought.” taeil was talking nonsense, but nothing was new there. with a habit of opening his mouth before thinking, he was prone to rattling off anything to fend off unwanted silence -- or just plain boredom. humming quietly as they placed the flower crown atop his head, he soon stood a little straighter, the corner of his mouth curving up into a lopsided smile as basil put one on their own head as well. “pretty prince might be pushing it, but i’ll take the compliment regardless. i think you suit it better though. very ethereal woodland forest spirit.”

jinsoul knew he and taeil were very different people from different walks of life, and yet in some ways they were kindred spirits. the man could never truly forgive himself if anything ever happened to his friend, or if he never opened up his doors to the other. “you saying you haven’t been feeling anything all this time? i mean except hunger of course.” he teased, poking his friend’s side. “the nicest smelling,” he mused as he stopped in his tracks frozen as he saw taeil’s shirtless torso, redness now covering his cheeks. “um, yeah try the purple bottle that’s the nicest smelling one, and the pink one is the conditioner, it’ll leave your hair smelling and looking great.” he mumbled looking away as he dropped off the clothes.
in response, only a shrug of his shoulders was given. taeil’s expression was playful, but he meant everything he said. his habit of shoving emotions deep down until they erupted was alive and well, good or bad. it was easier for him to drift through life uncaring while living in the moment rather than being caught up on every little thing -- though as much as he hated to admit it, deep down, he cared too much. at least for now, he was able to truly forget about everything for a little while. indulge in a bit of domesticity. glancing back at jinsoul, he raised a brow at the other’s clear avoidance. smile becoming a bit more mischievous, taeil clicked his tongue. “... i’m gonna take the rest of my clothes off now, so it might be a good time to leave if you’re gonna have a heart attack about it.”

“Don’t say stuff like that- you’ll make me make bad decisions,” Aspen laughed as he got on the bike, strapping the helmet on securely, “But I believe you. Don’t worry babe I’ll give you the ride of your life.” When Taeil got on, He immediately took off out of the parking lot, almost surprised that he didn’t get followed by the cops without fast he was going. The abandoned building was a good 20-minute drive from where they started, but Aspen somehow managed to make it there just under 12 even when stopping at the gas station on the way. He was shaking slightly when he stepped off the bike, not sure if it was because of the adrenaline or the alcohol still coursing through him. Maybe both. “There’s not much to do here,” He said as he wheeled his bike just inside the entrance, “But…I’m probably gonna pass the fuck out. That cell didn’t do shit for my back,” He stretched and let out a moan when his spine cracked a few times, “There’s a mattress that’s like, big as fuck for no reason if you wanna pass out too. The whole place is pretty clean though- I don’t even think its been here that long,” He’d never admit to cleaning the building when he was bored, but he figured that the excuse of it being newer would work good enough.
“you’d make those bad decisions with or without me, but i don’t mind playing devil’s advocate.” he teased, clipping the helmet on before taking his place behind aspen on the back of the bike. despite the very obvious danger, the ride was only boosted with the additional adrenaline rush; having only his arms secured around the other’s waist to keep him from falling off. even with a quick pit stop in between, it wasn’t long before they’d arrived at aspen’s humble home, in all it’s abandoned glory. it was strange to think that the guy was really out here living like this, but for everything it lacked he supposed it made up for in privacy and freedom. “y’know, it’s better than what i was expecting,” taeil commented, head tipping to the side in thought as he turned on his heel, taking in their surroundings. “kudos on finding somewhere empty that doesn’t look like it’s come straight from a horror movie, i guess.” smile growing, he reached up to ruffle at his own hair, a contented hum ringing out as he followed aspen closely like an eager pup. “how long’ve you even been staying here?”

The shop was dead and for that Basil was grateful. They sang softly to them self as they continued to weave together the stems of flowers into crowns of all sized. They had finished the order for the birthday party and didn’t have anything better to do- plus there were extras. The song they were singing was one of their own, something rough that they were still working kinks out of, but one they like either way. They jumped slightly when they heard the doorbell jingle, eyes drifting to look at the clock noting that it was almost time for closing anyway. A smile stretched across their face when they noticed who it was, “Tae! I thought you weren’t gonna come,” they put down the crown that was in their hands and wiped them on their apron, “I made you a flower crown like you asked. I thought I was gonna have to give it away,”
“hey songbird,” he greeted in a lazy drawl, brows raising in mild amusement at how they’d flinched so easily at the sound of the door’s bell. clearly they weren’t expecting any more customers -- not at this hour -- though taeil could honestly say he’d tried his best to show his face at the store as soon as he could. he just happened to get a little distracted along the way. gaze drifting from the other’s face to one of the woven crowns that were set aside, a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips at the promise there was still one left for him. “what, you thought i’d forget or somethin’?” stepping closer, taeil shook his head with a soft ‘tsk’ before dipping his head a little lower, expectantly waiting. “c’mon then, put it on me. let me be cute.”

jinsoul would’ve been more than happy if taeil stayed longer than a few nights, if he decided to just let this place be his home, he could rest easy at night. his friend often worried him as he didn’t know wether or not he was okay or if he had something to eat that day, but maybe that was just jinsoul’s nature getting the better of him? “you really think so?” he said flashing taeil a smile. “maybe you’re right, but i can handle trouble, it’s like my middle name. you if you did learn you would stay here longer, and keep me company. i really like it when you’re here.” he mused,
as he saw the other walk off, he followed behind, and blushed at the other’s remark. “i mean, unless you want to show me, i don’t think i’ll be taking a peek.” clearing his throat, he veered to the side to go find taeil a spare change of clothes, before the food would arrive. as he sorted through the closet, he picked out something simple before making his way back.
receiving hospitality didn’t come easy to him, which was probably odd to hear considering how often taeil liked to take advantage of a roof and some free food. a home was something he’d never really had, and the concept of living so normally all of a sudden was more than just a little scary to him -- though he’d never admit it. “keep talking like that and i might actually feel something for a change,” he joked, placing a hand over his heart with a widened smile. still walking ahead there was a moment of hesitation as jinsoul disappeared to fetch some clothes, a snickering laughter escaping him at the other’s words ( how adorable ) before he finally arrived at the bathroom door. pushing it open, he didn’t waste much time; shrugging off his jacket and shirt to toss them on the floor. voice echoing as he called out, taeil moved to inspect any new products lined up in storage nearby. “whats the nicest smelling shower stuff you have? probably got shampoo that smells like strawberries n’ shit in here, right?”

Auggie ran his fingers through his pink locks trying his best to act happy. Well if not happy at least content. He never wanted his friends to worry about him or see how sad he was. He knew he wasn’t good at hiding it though. Joon told him time and time again he wasn’t but he at least tried to. Tired to be happy for his friends so they’d worry less. Auggie pushed on a small smile when Taeil touched his shoulder trying to signal he was okay. “My last road trip was alone,”He admitted. “And it wasn’t fun..it was stressful,” He nodded before thinking. “I’ve always wanted to go to Legoland.”
the forced show of happiness wasn’t really doing much for him, if he were being honest. joon was right about that much; auggie wasn’t much of an actor when it came to this sort of stuff, but taeil wasn’t about to make a spectacle of it. instead he let his arm curl around the other’s shoulder, resting against him lazily. close contact always helped cheer taeil up whenever he was truly downright miserable -- he could only silently hope it was the same for auggie, too. “doesn’t mean all of ‘em have to be stressful. but, legoland? really?” brows raising, he let out a soft ‘huh’ of wonder. it was kind of endearing how innocent an answer it was. “i woulda said vegas or somethin’, but that’s cool too. maybe a bit of disney while we’re at it, eh?”

Aspen groaned as he walked (stumbled) out of the police building, squinting and covering his eyes with his hand as the sun continued to bare down on him. “Fuck bro…I dont even know what happened last night-” all he really remembered was…drinking. he wasnt sure how he got the money, but he definitely remembers the bar hopping and the drunken dancing…and the vague flash of police lights. “Let’s just go back to the AB,” he looked blindly around the parking lot for a moment before spotting his bike, silently thankful for them not having impounded it. “I probably shouldn’t be driving right now but hop on,” he chuckled, grabbing the helmets the lay on top of the bike and handing one to the other Male, “gotta stop at the gas station too…”
“when you drink that much you know it has to have been a good time,” came taeil’s sage wisdom, despite the obvious fact the previous evening had been nothing but trouble for the both of them. rubbing at the side of his head in an attempt to nurse his building headache, he gave one last glance back at the station that served as their hotel for the night before letting out a scoff of laughter, stumbling a little as he followed aspen with no real goal in mind. that was, until he got ( what he assumed to be ) an invite to retreat back to the other’s place -- if said AB could even be called that. “what’s life without a bit of danger, huh?” it wasn’t like he had much else on his schedule for the day. taking the helmet that was held out to him, taeil tugged it on while eyeing the bike in question. “would you believe me if i said i’ve never been on one of these things before? make it fun for me, yeah?”
