The Light in your Eyes (OC Story/Draft)
All day I was thinking about the earlier interaction. What would cause Oliver to suddenly revert? I didnât think punching someone could resurface an old personality. Or maybe, what I witnessed, was just a slipup. That was more reasonable than whatever else was going through my head. Still, I was determined to get to the bottom of this.Â
I grabbed Liamâs hand, Anthony had the pleasure of not having our english class. I only say pleasure because there was no chaos, it was just another boring class. All thanks to Liam elbowing me every time I think of something spectacularly sarcastic to say to the teacher.Â
âWoah- dude. Where are we going?â Liam said, yes, class was over, but I wasnât exactly bursting at the seams with excitement to get to my next class.Â
âWe are going to see what Taylor's up to.â I declared with a huge grin on my face.Â
âNo way. You always complain about how sheâs practically a beacon for bad luck.â Liam tried to break free from my grasp, and thatâs when I held on tighter. With him, I felt like I could do anything.Â
âExactly, weâre going to play with fire.â I mustâve sounded insane, I had that streak going today.Â
There she was. Taylor Brown. The queen of Westernville High.
Except there seemed to be something off, she was wearing her normal tight fitting clothes, makeup, and heels. But she wasnât wearing her signature smile. Iâm talking annoyingly bright and cheery, too artificial to be normal.Â
She looked utterly pissed.Â
I felt Liam's grip on my hand tighten, as he looked at me with worried eyes, signaling his thoughts of how we should leave.
I met his eyes with caution. This could be a jackpot, or it could be our downfall.Â
She seemed to be rambling to one of her close friends. I say âone ofâ as if there were others. Taylor Brown only had one best friend, Peyton Grey. She was average height with strawberry blonde hair that was almost to the middle of her back. And she only dressed in pinks, whites, and browns. She was almost as basic as Taylor herself.Â
âI canât believe he fought someone, I mean, I left him alone for 6 weeks and suddenly he just loses all the personality I gave him? How rude.â Taylor spoke, her tone was careful, as if speaking to make sure no one else heard.Â
âYou said it girl, I warned you he was weird! Especially in middle school, he almost went batshit on a kid for asking for a pencil.â Peyton responded, brushing through her hair.Â
It was at that moment I knew they were talking about Oliver. Like I said, he was a troubled kid when we were younger.
âI knew he was crazy, but I fixed him! I mean, how hard is it to just be normal? Itâs not like he has anything to hide. Heâs just doing it for attention at this point.â Taylor continued. âI fixed his hair, changed his style, and helped him study. And what do I get in return? A breakup and reputation hit. I shouldâve listened to you Peyton, you always seem to be right about these things.âÂ
Peyton complained. âYou know, if he had kept it together for at least another 2 weeks, I couldâve scored a date with Mason! Now he wonât even look at me. That bastard probably told him some twisted story about me. And now heâs going out with Kylie! Sheâs a huge downgrade compared to me.âÂ
Taylor rolled her eyes, resuming her rant. âThe only good thing about Oliver was the way he always looked so pitiful during-âÂ
âDude, we have to go, theyâll crucify us if they see us.â Liam whispered.Â
He was right, this wasn't getting anywhere. And if Taylor saw us trying to intrude, sheâd have our heads.Â
Once we were in the clear, Liam turned to me.Â
âAre you done with your little adventure now? Are you happy with what you did?â He scolded, as if I didnât hear this enough from my mom.
âNo dipshit, I didnât even learn anything remotely useful.â I spat back.Â
âI donât understand why you hate Oliver so much, I mean, heâs only looked at you like twice.â Liam continued.Â
âWhat? Everyone knows you hate his guts, because of volleyball, or Clairesse confessing to him not you- thereâs a ton of reasons why, though honestly I think you should just drop it and move on with your life.âÂ
âI donât hate him.âÂ
âYou donât?â His eyebrows furrowed, as if I had just spoken something that wasnât even plausible.Â
âNo? When have I ever held a grudge on anyone Liam.âÂ
âYou do it all the time for Anthony-â
âAnthonyâs my friend, itâs all in fair play. Iâve never hated Oliver. He just hates me.âÂ
âOh. Wait- then why are we spying on his ex?â As one gear moved, the rest followed in Liamâs mind.Â
âTo try and help him get out of the hole heâs in?â I felt like I was sounding stupid, did everyone think I hated him?Â
âOh- I guess that makes sense-â Liam started, but before we could finish, a girl came up behind him.Â
We both turned to look at her.Â
âHey, Tyler?â She started, I didnât know who she was, maybe she was one of my sisterâs friends?
She took a deep breath and continued. âIâm a reporter for the Eagleâs view. Weâre doing a special on standout students and we were wondering if youâd be interested in being asked some questions.âÂ
Standout students? That seemed interesting.Â
âSureâ I breathe in reply, immediately, her face lit up.Â
âGreat! Would lunch on Wednesday work for you?âÂ
âYea, thatâd be fine.â Seeing how Wednesday was tomorrow, I could use it as an excuse to put Liam next to some girl Iâd been trying to have him talk to.Â
