‘’Leon, I...’’

Takumi let out a sigh a sheer relief as he felt the gentle press of Leon’s forehead against his. 

‘’How glad I am that you are safe. I thought you were hurt.’’

It was probably silly of him to put such great importance in a single gesture, but to him, it meant so much. A silent reassurance. A gesture in which he didn’t actually have to talk to express how grateful and relieved he was that the other returned safely to camp. He never would have forgiven himself if something happened to his friend.

‘’W-What are you…?’’

Takumi’s eyes widened considerably when he felt himself being pulled into his brother’s strong embrace. His heart stilled in his chest for a brief moment and… he simply didn’t know how to respond. They had been arguing one again on his own efficiency and, here they were, hugging. It was such a simple gesture and, still, Takumi had been yearning for one for so long, now. Hesitantly, he rose his arms as well and wrapped them tightly around his brother’s torso. His gloved fingers fisted his shirt dearly as he turned his head away to cover the fact that his eyes were welling up with tears he had no control over. It was so reassuring. To know that Ryoma actually cared about him.

For a mere instant, it chased the darkness away.

Takumi leaned into the gentle caress that came with the gesture of Ryoma brushing away his tears as if they were never there in the first place. He eyes never left him as he listened closely to what he had to say, but the praise was simply too much and Takumi found himself shaking his head at the other’s words. How could Ryoma possibly think that of him? It was impossible. He was weak. Frail. Hell, he was crying at this very moment! How could his brother possibly think of him as a man worth praising? He just couldn’t see it.

‘’I’m nothing of what you describe, brother. All I do, is envy others. I am not a man worth praising nor am I a man that people consider a friend or family. I’m just a man that hops from shadow to shadow, envying others in a weak attempt to make myself stronger. You lie to make me feel better, that I know. You’re my brother. That’s what family does best, no? Lie to make the other happy?’’

The silver haired prince sighed sadly as he felt himself being pulled in for a gentle kiss upon his forehead. Just like when they were children and Takumi had a nightmare. It was as if the darkness simply melted away and everything in this damned world seemed to be right once more. Another sigh escaped his lips, heavier this time, as if it carried the weight that had been crushing on his shoulders for so many years the instant he felt Ryoma’s forehead bumping lightly against his. It was such an intimate gesture, but to Takumi, it meant everything.

Comfort. Safety. Warmth. Home.

‘’Ryoma, please, don’t... It would be better for you if all of this were to be ignored.’’
